The energy sphere in front of Ethan's chest had finished charging. He drew up one leg and kicked, sending the massive sphere hurtling toward Marek through the barrage of colored light. Then he tucked himself close behind it, using it to hide his body.
Marek watched the sphere bear down on him. Ethan had vanished from sight, but after that kick, there weren't many places he could hide.
After the briefest pause, Marek swung his cane and smashed it toward the space below and behind the sphere.
The cane cracked through the air with an explosion.
Ethan's heart skipped a beat. The old man had actually predicted that he would follow the sphere.
Fortunately, as soon as it blocked Marek's view, Ethan had circled away. He was already behind him.
Good guess.
Too bad I knew you'd do that.
