Forging My Own Foundation.

I woke up with my body aching, stiff, and unwilling to move. Even returning to my room felt heavy as if the air itself refused to welcome me back.

The room was small, barely enough for a single bed. Half of it had once been mine, before it was surrendered to expand Lilith's room.

When we were younger, Lilith would panic in tight spaces. Crying, screaming, her fear was so intense that Mother had begged me to give up part of my room.

I did it because I loved her. I used to. I didn't want to burden our parents.

But I never felt Lilith loved me back. I never understood why.

She always got special treatment, privileges wrapped in silk and handed on silver platters. Even when it came to marriage, my parents had wanted her to marry into the Halton family. But it was me they chose instead. Because I was obedient, "well-mannered," according to Mrs. Minerva Halton. And the main reason was my sister had health issue.
