Chapter 25 - Typhoon: Final

Kaarik's POV

It has been a few days since we found the Typhoomerang. The group has been trying to figure out exactly what type of dragon he was, since they couldn't find anything about him in the Book of Dragons. They began doing the different tests we created for dragon species. Wingspan, claw test, and the eel test.

As Fishlegs took out an eel, the other dragons—besides Indra—screeched and flew back before he showed it to the baby dragon.

"He ate it! He actually ate the eel!" Fishlegs beamed. "I don't think there has been any dragon that hasn't been afraid of eels before!"

"Uh…" I coughed as I pointed to Indra, who was busy inhaling the rest of the eels down his throat.

"Oh, right…" Fishlegs chuckled awkwardly.

"So what do we call his species?" Astrid interjected, looking over the dragon as it chirped at us.

"Typhoomerang… now can we please put the damn thing back where we got it?" I huffed.

"Why are you so eager to get rid of it? It hasn't done anything wrong, and his leg is still healing." Helga sighed.

"Oh, I don't know, maybe because I would rather not have to put down a very angry dragon mother." I retorted.

"He does make a point, Helga." Astrid agreed.

"Thank you…" I said, exaggeratedly raising my arms into the air.

"But this is such a perfect chance to study the little guy." Fishlegs added.

'These people are going to be the death of me.' I shed a silent tear for the future mother that Indra was going to eviscerate.

After a few hours of taking notes and studying Torch—that's the name they gave him—everyone was finally ready to go home. Well, almost everyone.

"I don't know what's up with Toothless recently…" Helga huffed as she watched Toothless staring out into the forest.

"You mean the fact that you're caring more for a random dragon's baby, not only potentially keeping it from its mother but also ignoring Toothless' obvious attempts for you to take it back to where we found it?" I deadpanned while staring at the baby dragon.

"He's not gonna get punched, is he?" Fishlegs whispered as Helga stared at me with an intensity that rivalled Astrid's.

"Oh, I'd love to see that." Ruffnut snickered.

"All I'm saying is that for the past few days, Toothless and Indra have become more and more agitated. You may not notice it, but there are signs that something is wrong." I explained.

"Okay! I get it! We'll take him back first thing in the morning." She said before grabbing the dragon as she began walking back home.

"I sincerely hope nothing goes wrong before then." Clasping my hand over my mouth, I sighed. "You jinxed yourself, Kaarik…"

I couldn't sleep. How could I sleep knowing that I, a huge spiralling death machine that can breathe fire, was going to show up at the village at any moment? Torch's mother was going to come… I could feel it. Too much time had already passed. Every moment that Torch was kept in Berk was another moment that his mother would come knocking.

And then, like a slap in the face for even thinking about the damned dragon, I felt a rumble reverberate through my body. I heard a roar coming from outside. The floorboards beneath my feet vibrated. My room shook a little as my door hinges groaned.

From outside, I heard Indra let out a deafening shriek—a battle cry that echoed across the entire village. Sparks of bright purple lightning flashed outside my window, briefly illuminating the night sky.

"Well, shit. I knew it…" I muttered.

Running out of the house, the scene was absolute chaos. Vikings were spilling out of their homes with shields and axes, screaming in panic as embers rained down from the sky. Snotlout was frantically trying to get Hookfang into the air, but the dragon refused to fly into the path of the massive, spiralling inferno above.

Fishlegs was screaming as he and Meatlug dodged crumbling debris. Astrid was helping the villagers who couldn't fight evacuate. And the twins were being the twins.

The mother Typhoomerang was huge. Her wingspan was wide enough to eclipse three longhouses at once. Her scales were a bright, terrifying red, lined with jet-black stripes that seemed to absorb the light of her own flames. Her head was crowned with massive, swept-back horns, and as she hovered over the village square, her wings beat the air with such force that the thatched roofs of the surrounding houses began to peel away into the wind.

The colossal dragon folded her wings tightly against her body and began to spin. A vortex of yellow and orange fire engulfed her frame, turning her into a drill of pure heat as she plunged towards the center of the village square.

"Kaarik, what's going on?!" My mother yelled as she and my father ran up beside me.

"It's a really, really angry dragon mother… Indra!" I yelled, whistling—a short, sharp two-tone call.

The titan wing shot towards me, his heavy footsteps echoing across the stone as we approached one another. Grabbing his saddle, I flipped myself onto it. Then I heard the unmistakable sound of Torch's high-pitched screech, calling out to his mother's roar. Almost immediately, the dragon whipped its head around towards Helga's place.

"Damn it, Helga!" I grunted.

Right as Indra and I were about to fly up to distract the dragon, I spotted Toothless and Helga. Unfortunately, so did the Typhoomerang, as it immediately gave chase.

"Indra! Stun it!" I commanded.

Shooting a blast of lightning, the bolt hit the dragon, staggering it out of the air and giving me enough time to catch up with Helga.

"My Skrill and I will draw its focus! You and Toothless carry the baby to the north beach and wait for us there!" I told her.

"Be careful!" She shouted as she flew away to meet me at the beach.

Enraged, the Typhoomerang gave chase, but I intercepted, giving Helga enough time to leave as I distracted the dragon. After a bit of cat and mouse, I finally broke away, letting the dragon follow us as Indra dodged its flames as we neared the beach.

"Alright, now. Indra, ram her!" I shouted, Indra roaring as he dove, launching us straight into the path of the Typhoomerang.

Slamming into the dragon, we fell towards the ground. Crashing, Indra immediately lunged at it, pinning it in place as he stood over its body and growled at it to stay down. Fortunately, it got the memo and didn't try to do anything else.

"Helga, the baby?" I asked as I saw her walking over.

"I know, I know." She said, placing the baby dragon down in front of the mother. "Goodbye, Torch. It was nice while it lasted."

As Indra got off, the mother glared at us one final time before taking Torch and flying away. After that was said and done, I turned around and smacked Helga upside the head.

"Hey! What was that for?!" She screamed.

"For not listening to me…" I deadpanned. "Now come on. We need to go back and calm the people down and explain to your dad what happened." I sighed as she followed grumpily.
