"What do you mean?" Irene Spencer took a step forward, meeting Vera Wave's eyes. "Are you genuinely clueless, or are you just pretending to be?"
She reached out and grabbed Vera's necklace, pinching the wedding ring on it.
"This ring was never yours to begin with. Kris Cooper has never loved you!"
Vera was stunned for a few seconds, then snatched the ring back from Irene's hand and chuckled.
"Irene Spencer, do you think I'll believe you just because you say so? Do you want to know what I see in your eyes?"
If it had been before, she might have believed Irene's words to some extent. Now, however, Irene was, in her eyes, the epitome of a two-faced liar; there was no way Vera would believe her nonsense.
