Mordred sat in the familiarity of her office, looking through reports of what's happened while she was gone. The progress made put a smile on her face.
Several outposts had been constructed, the agriculture project was now in the beginning stages, and most of all, weapon production was being expanded. The new weapon's designer was throwing out new weapon designs pretty much everyday. To the point where Violet had to drag them out of the workshop so they wouldn't die of overwork.
And the most shocking thing, was seeing Ruby Rose, one of the main characters of this world, looking absolutely exhausted while holding a half finished mecha-shift weapon, refusing to move. Apparently working unpaid overtime without care. Perhaps this is why companies say, "Get a job in something you love."
As Violet dragged out the crying Ruby, Mordred entered the workshop to inspect it. She was quite curious.
Inside was littered with machinery and parts. Weapons hanging on the walls and ceiling, and several hand drawn blueprints scattered about. It was a mess.
Mordred's company had three categorizations of weapons: Hunters, Standard and heavy.
Hunters, well for hunters with aura, standard for ordinary people, and heavy was generally meant for vehicle mounted weapons which currently only a heavy machine gun was the only thing currently made while all others were obtained through the market. Then these categories are then divided into many sub-categories.
Then of course came armor and equipment.
And all these had to be reliable and easy to manufacture.
Mordred wanted to get her greedy hands in every market, but that required immense amounts of money and manpower.
Ruby was pretty much the only official member of R&D. Everyone else was basically from third parties or herself.
Using the weapons she brought into this world, she would take them apart, draw up a design on a blueprint, then go get a patent for the design, then finally send the design to the manufacturing team.
For third parties, Mordred just bought the designs from them. Unfortunately, she had to pay royalties which is why she wanted her own dedicated team.
So, Mordred reached into her inventory and took out Akashi's character card.
IJN Akashi, the sole repair ship of the Sakura Navy. Outside of her roles as a repair ship, she is also the lead scientist and researcher of Azur Lane while running her own shop on the side.
While her research was more focused toward shipgirls and wisdom cubes, that doesn't mean she would be useless here. Akashi is a genius in engineering and science, primarily in machines and energy.
With a flick of her wrist, the card dissolved into motes of light. A small figure materialized in the workshop, ears twitching, tail swishing, and eyes gleaming.
"Commander! Akashi has arrived, nya!" she announced proudly, doing a mock salute.
Mordred held her hand out. "My name is Mordred Pendragon, your new boss, or commander, which ever you wish to refer me by."
"Then I'll stick with commander, nya." Akashi accepted the handshake.
Mordred was glad that Akashi wasn't absolutely clueless about the situation. She had read some stories in the past where a character that was summoned would have no idea what was going and start lashing out.
Fortunately, that wasn't the case here. Mordred assumed it was Ava's doing.
"Well, then, welcome to the world of Remnant, your new home. It's a lot different from the Earth you're from but I'm sure you'll fit in quick."
"You will be assigned as head of R&D, but for now I'll give you a tour of the place and explain things, then I'll get your living quarters arranged and have someone get you settled. Any questions?"
Akashi nodded. "Am I restricted on what I can develop, nya?"
Mordred answered "For now, no. We are currently focusing on weapons and equipment to arm an individual that can be sold and arm our own forces. But if you have any projects you want to start, then I don't mind, as long as your progress is bringing benefits to the business."
"Do I have a budget, nya?"
"Yes"
Akashi's eyes seemed to dim slightly from the answer.
"The budget right now is quite high so I don't think you will have to worry about funding issues. Of course, that doesn't mean you can go and spend it all at once. For now, just focus on understanding how this world's economy works so you don't go overspending."
She nodded.
"I look forward to working with you commander, nya!"
"Likewise."
...
Now that Akashi was getting settled into her new apartment, probably using the spending money Mordred had given her, Mordred returned to her office and turned on her computer.
Now would begin her next set in growing her power. By expanding the business.
More outposts? More troops? Nope.
Her goal right now was buying up businesses.
Nothing big, just small-time businesses. Her plan was just to get her foot in the door for many different industries.
Her company had generated plenty of spending cash for business expenses, so now was the time.
A company could only grow so fast when tied to a single industry, no matter how lucrative weapons manufacturing and private security was. But a company with fingers in dozens of pies? Even small pies? That was a different monster altogether.
At this point she was on the road to becoming a megacorporation, but that didn't really matter in her eyes. She had no plans of going public with her company, everything would be owned by her and her alone.
So what if Vale came knocking with lawyers, what could they do? They had no military to back them up. Worse case is that they drag Atlas into the fold to try and scare her into compliance. But Mordred was confident that as long as she didn't back down and even showed that war was not off the table, Ironwoods would back down.
After all, he was aware of Salem who was the biggest threat to humanity. With his paranoia, he'd probably convince himself that this was probably one of Salem's schemes to make humanity fight one another and thus weakening them for her to exploit.
With all that said, Mordred continued clicking of her computer. On her screen were lists of several businesses operating in Vale. Bakeries, repair shops, retails stores, even an independent Dust refinery barely scraping by.
These were all businesses scouted by Violet and Slate, each one with a report on how well the business is doing and if it was worth the investment.
And buying so many businesses also meant that the company leadership had to be expanded. There was only so much Violet and Slate could do. So, Violet had been hiring new faces like Ruby to fill in many roles that were left unfilled in the beginning.
Within three hours, Mordred had finished sending offers to these businesses. She expected about 60% or maybe 70% of these offers to be declined, but that was fine with her.
Sitting back in her chair and stretching her arms, letting out a small moan of relief.
'I'll stay here a while longer and wait for things to stabilize before heading off to a new world. I should also check out the new quests feature since my current points are in dire straits from that gacha pull.'
'I also need to start training again since I've been slacking off for a while now.'
