Now, as it turned out, meant six hours later.
Selina Goldthorne was a hard woman, but she was not going to beat up a child with a hole in his leg. She was going to wait until the hole had closed, and then beat him up.
So the healer poured something green and fizzy on the cut, and it knitted shut while he watched. After that he was sent to a cot in the corner and told to sleep. He didn't sleep. He lay there with his eyes closed and sat in his Mind Space instead, on a chair that was too small for him, and let his Magic fill back up.
Luna didn't say much. The red light just stayed near him. It was nice.
When he opened his eyes, the barrels in the windows had gone dark, and Selina was standing over him with a lamp in one hand and a mug in the other.
"Up, kid."
