Chapter 2 - Signed

Maggie

Stepping into Matteo's office, I felt a sense of familiarity or maybe just downright deja vu

All of these mafioso offices were the same: hardwood, oak, darkness—same as my father's.

He motioned for me to sit as he strode behind his desk, producing a manila folder.

"In here contains the contract.." he started as I watched him eye the papers. I couldn't help but look—the guy was stupidly handsome. Jet black hair slicked back, piercing dark eyes, olive skin, and a damn build that told me he worked out quite often.

He had to, I supposed. People like him needed to look like they could break you in half.

"Six months to a year,-"

"You only said six months!" I protested, "Now you said you were a man of your word, Matteo."

Matteo sat down, shooing his guards out of the room.

His suit had to have been tailor made to his size. I found myself rolling over his body with my eyes and caught his gaze as he smirked at me.

"Do you like what you see, stellina?"

"Don't call me that."

"Why not? You're going to be my little shining star..."

"What's in it for me? The money...the title?"

"You can even have everything annulled and go about your life," Matteo smiled, "Without me."

Matteo

She was a sight for sore eyes.

I'd been eyeing her sister for some time simply because she was younger and might have been easier to swindle. Maggie, I knew, was pretty close to being the most conservative of the two and not that easily pressured.

"Docks and stocks," I told her, "Your family gets three docks, some stocks, and the money. You can have fun with all of my credit cards—live like you're on vacation for a while."

"Where will you be?"

"Around," I told her, as she twirled the ends of her shimmering ,dark hair, "We obviously have to make appearances at different functions, fundraisers, events, you live this life so you know the drill."

She frowned, her almond colored eyes searching mine for truths, "You won't try anything with me, will you?"

I chuckled, "Like fucking? Stellina, I am most certain at some point in this little facade we will be ravishing each other daily."

"I highly doubt it," she huffed, crossing her arms over her chest, "Let me see the papers."

I handed them over and I'll be damned if she didn't read the entire thing. I even had time to sit there and make some phone calls, set up appointments and drink a shot of brandy.

"I need a lawyer," she said, "And copies."

She knew I meant business. She was eager to participate.

I could see the need in her eyes.

"I want to make some notes, though," she said, "I am a teacher so I want to, -"

"You'll teach the children in my family who go to class at Maxwell."

"The Academy?"Maggie frowned, "But I don't teach there."

"You will."

She sighed, "I won't be tied down?"

"Within reason," I reminded her, "You're still a mob heiress even without me."

A knock came at the door and her lawyer, Santino, waltzed in followed by my lawyer, Lawrence.

Santino tried to see if he could sense the fraud, but Maggie kept a straight face. He knew not to ask questions.

"You have to ask my father for his blessing."

"I will," I smiled, "Tomorrow night at the fundraiser that all of us will attend."

The wheels were turning. She'd remembered she had to make an appearance anyway.

Maggie

What the hell was I doing?

Of course, I had to...his father was dying and it would only take mere months for the poor bastard to succumb to his illness. My family would finally get the docks they needed and I'd still leave with my dignity intact.

Matteo studied me as I spoke with Santino. He didn't talk to his lawyer which told me they had all of their ducks in a row.

"You must abide my the rules of the house," Santino turned to me, "Magdalena, are you certain you are capable of doing this? When did this happen?"

Matteo cleared his throat, "That's none of your fucking business. Maggie and I have been seeing each other for a while, haven't we?"

I glanced at him and his darkened gaze told me to play along.

I know my demeanor probably betrayed me slightly where Santino was concerned, but I couldn't be bothered with those little mishaps.

"It says here I can't tell anyone—ever—what the truth is?"

"You know the consequences, stellina," Matteo shrugged, "There'd be no reason for you to say a word."

He wasn't just warning me—no, his family didn't issue idle threats, either.

"And this?" I pointed to an entire page that startled me, "Children?"

"If a child is conceived during the time we're together, you and I will co-parent the offspring," he told me, "They will be heir to this family as well as yours."

I shuddered, thinking about him taking me over that desk as I dripped with arousal down both of our thighs.

I knew he was thinking it, too. The smile on his face was wicked and greedy with lust.

"You'd look good swollen with my babies, Magdalena Luciano.." he said, "Very good indeed."

I grabbed the pen from Santino and signed my name across the papers as if my life depended on it.

I didn't realize just how deep I was going to get with Matteo Bianchi, but I was soon going to find out.
