Chapter 10 - Toasted Vanilla and Temptations

Yna's pov

The glasses in my hands looked so delicate. It reminded me of my facade.

Humming a little, I pulled on the pink sweatpants and hoodie I'd borrowed from Leighla. Not that she needed to know. It was the only way I could think of hiding my blonde hair. Besides, it was just for a couple minutes, no one would know.

Grabbing my glasses, I put them on and stared at my reflection in the mirror. Satisfied with my disguise, I grabbed my keys and left for the office.

As promised, Christean had everything ready sitting on my desk. And although I would have loved to see him, he was nowhere to be found.

Oddly enough was the fact that the place should have been empty but wasn't. People weee running around like they were on a tight schedule. Sniffing lightly, I tried to gather as much information as I could. A few feet away from the conference room, I saw Denise, my dad's personal secretary carrying a ton of files on her slender arm.

"Hey Denise, what's going on and why is everybody running around after hours?"

Denise rolled her eyes, almost as if she couldn't believe that I was.

"Serial Lockheart ordered an internal review of some files Christean was working on. Said the numbers don't add up and now he's in the conference room barking at him"

Oh my goodness, I felt so horrified at the thought. But I couldn't risk it. If I stayed too long, I could get my cover blown. I hated that I had to, but I really hoped Christean figured it out.

Nodding slightly, I looked at Denise

"Well I wouldn't want to be in the way, please tell Christean I have the files and will have them ready in the next couple of days"

She looked at me briefly, nodded and then disappeared into the conference room.

I could hear more barking. And then the sharp biting words that followed.

"Which incompetent person prepared these files?"

I stiffened when I heard Christean's soft reply

"My department. I will take full responsibility for them"

My heart lurched.

"And who exactly works in that department?", he asked again with no emotion in his voice

"Yna, Me and Denise"

"Yna?"

I stiffened at the mention of my name.

"Yes, she is out sick today"

There was no other response and I immediately slipped away, making my way downstairs to the parking lot and drove away in my car.

I heaved when I got home. A bossy, snarky rich brat. That was what he was. Serial Lockheart.

Setting down the files, I started to work a little on them till it was 5.

I took a breath after looking at the amount of work I'd gotten done and decided to take a 30minute nap, hoping to feel refreshed after I woke up.

When I woke up an hour later, I did feel very refreshed but also rushed. Now I had to get ready for my dinner with Amani.

So I took a long bath, shampooed my hair and sang a Coldplay song in the shower.

The honest truth was I was very nervous to meet Amani. This meeting was the point of no return. I took a deep breath and then dried my hair. Somehow I managed to put some curls in it. Then I slipped on my contacts and did my makeup. Some dramatic cat eye to bring out the dark aesthetic I was going for. Next, I went to pick out a dress.

I really need to bring my A game. With that in mind, I grabbed the mint green dress. Leigh's pick.

Pulling it on, I stared at my reflection and added some pink lipgloss and glittery eye shadow. I grabbed the white fur shawl draped it around my right shoulder down to my left arm.

It was perfect.

Last things I grabbed were my mascara, glasses, keys, purse and cards. Once those were all in my purse, I pulled on some dangly gold and teal earrings, gold Cartier bracelet and white studded louboutin heels.

Right before I stepped out I put on some of my favorite scents, Vanilla and coconut.

By the time, I grabbed my phone and pulled out of the mansion, it was 7:15.

Too bad, a man always waits for the prize. I thought with a cynical smile.

When I finally pulled into the restaurant parking lot, it was 7:30.

There was a waiter right at the door to usher me in which was one of the signature services of Cher Mer.

They knew every detail of their reservation and so without a word, I followed the waiter to the table where Amani was waiting.

Taking a deep breath, I prepared myself to get through tonight. Taking slow steps, I hoped I'd never get to the table.

But I did.

He was looking very sharp in his brown suit, hair styled to perfection and a fixed smile on his face. And the was someone sitting further way in the shadows. I figured that was his bodyguard or some measure of security detail and didn't dwell on it.

He stood up when I got near and kissed both of my cheeks. Then he gently pulled the chair so I could sit. I could feel him take a deep sniff.

I smiled back at him.

"You look absolutely ravishing tonight Siren"

"Had to put in some effort", I replied.

He chucked lightly

"Glad I was able to get you to come out. I know you've only been back a few days but I missed your scent. The sweet vanilla and fresh coconut always makes my day"

I nodded, almost choking on the mischievous laugh I was holding in. If only you knew, I thought sarcastically to myself.

"I have you my word"

"Shall we order?"

I nodded at that. Grateful that I didn't have to keep the conversation going.

He signaled someone and they brought a bottle of wine. Then they took our order.

"So what have been up to offshore"

"I graduated and then worked a year on overseas shipping for our furniture. We're expanding to China this summer"

He looked me in the eye, almost as if he was trying to read my next reaction

"And I guess you needed the Lockhearts for that?"

"Not necessarily, it's just business"

He nodded and then licked his lips.

Just then the food arrived. Grilled salmon and asparagus on the side for me and some chicken Alfredo pasta for him.

"Siren", he called and I lifted my gaze briefly to look at him

"Aman, can you drop it already?"

"You didn't tell me you were getting engaged"

"Yeah, we're not that close"

"You know I'd do anything for you. A merger? An Investment? A Partnership? Anything"

I sighed.

"Yes, Serial and I are different. It's a marriage, Aman"

He looked at me one more time before asking the one question I had no answer for.

" Of all the eligible bachelors, why Serial Lockheart"
