Chapter 4 - Meetings and mysteries

Later, at the Heaven Embassy in Hell

"Before we go in," Sukuna said, placing a hand on Charlie's shoulder gently. "Remember what we're here for. Don't lose your head, just because they don't respect us. Remember, NOONE can hurt you while I'm around. And most importantly, YOU are the daughter of Lucifer. Princess of Hell. Show them who they are dealing with." he tried to instill confidence in the nervous Charlie, his voice low but reassuring.

"Thank you Ryo. I'm happy you're here with me. I can do this." Charlie said, a small smile gracing her lips. The nickname he gave Sukuna, annoyed the Overlord, but he couldn't do anything about it, so he accepted it.

"One more thing. When we're inside, don't mention my name. Just say I'm a bodyguard of sorts." Sukuna whispered, creeping Charlie out a little.

"Oookay?" Charlie said unsure why he would ask such a thing.

As she pushed open the door of the meeting room, the creaks of the door echoed in the giant empty room.

"Hellooo?" she called out, listening for an answer. Suddenly all the lights lit up, with an angel sitting at the other end of the table, and an Exorcist standing next to him.

"'Sup." the angel asked suddenly, slightly startling Charlie.

"Hi. Hello. Nice to meet you. I'm Charlie, and this is my...bodyguard...AND my Dad asked if I could meet you instead of him." she started, a bit hesitantly, but she recovered quickly.

"Hi. Yeah I know." the angel said dismissively, seemingly bored with the whole exchange. After that however, he got more enthusiastic, "Nice to meet you too!" he said as he reached out his hand, seemingly to shake Charlie's.

As Charlie held out her hand, Sukuna suddenly spoke up, in a low voice, but everyone heard it clearly.

"If you took this meeting sufficiently seriously, you would have shown up yourself, not that pathetic projection you are now. ADAM." he said with a slight threat in his voice. The angel looked shocked for a second, but quickly recovered.

"And who the fuck are you to tell me to do anything? It's pure luck that I haven't met you in the Extermination yet, but luck can be a bitch, you know. Maybe next time." Adam said, overly sure of himself, while eating some kind of meat off of a plate. Sukuna was not amused by his demonstration however.

"Let's continue this meeting face to face, shall we?" Sukuna smirked, and lifted his hand. The next second, a giant slash mark appeared above the angel's projection, scaring both of the heavenly guests. Then, suddenly, the projection of Adam glitched and cut out, with the real Adam falling through the slash in space.

"What the FUCK was that? How DARE YOU?" Adam raged, as the exorcist grabbed her weapon, standing in front of Adam, seemingly protecting him, ready to fight to the death if necessary.

"Now that's better isn't it? Now SIT DOWN, and SHUT UP!" the demon said, putting power into his voice, which scared Adam for a second, and he calmed down.

As Adam, finally physically present, sat down on a chair, Charlie also took a sit on the other side of the table, with Sukuna standing behind her, arms folded into each other, eyes closed.

As the discussion continued, it was clear that Adam wasn't here to hear anyone out, he couldn't care less about the whole thing.

"Just because they made some mistakes doesn't mean they can't be redeemed. Everyone makes mistakes." Charlie pleaded for the angels to listen to her, to see the point she was trying to make.

"Angels don't make mistakes." the exorcist butted into the conversation, but was quickly silenced by a glance from Sukuna, who now opened his eyes.

"Yeah! I've never make a mistake in my fucking life!" Adam pounced on the topic, utterly and absolutely sure of himself.

"Really?" Sukuna asked suddenly, his tone betrayed his good mood, like he heard a good joke. "You ARE one big mistake to start. Not to mention both your wives escaped into hell just to get away from you. And your biggest mistake. You cannot count." Sukuna taunted Adam, but the last one caught everyone off guard. Noone understood what being bad at math had to do with anything.

"What does being bad at math has to do with anything, you dumb fuck?" Adam laughed out loud, thinking the overprotective demon lost his mind.

"If you don't know what I'm talking about, that makes you even more of an idiot. You are just an ignorant fool who thinks highly of themselves without being able to back it up. Pathetic insect if you ask me." Sukuna started to get annoyed at this fool's audacity. Now all his six eyes were open, looking down on the angels with annoyance and deep hatred.

"Shut the fuck up bodyguard, you're so ignorant you can't grasp the power difference between us." Adam said with confidence, completely oblivious to the threat the Overlord presented.

The conversation quickly broke down from there, Adam refusing to listen to anyone other than himself.

As the conversation died down, Charlie went to the door, and left the room without saying another word. Sukuna however, lingered for a bit.

"If you really want to know what I was getting at, you should count your exorcists. Who knows, you might find it interesting." Sukuna said to Adam mysteriously while leaving, smirking at the confused face of the angel.

"Lute. I want a full report of the last extermination!" Adam said angrily to the exorcist, quietly fuming while returning to heaven.

After they left the embassy, Charlie quickly started to panic and broke down into tears, now knowing that the extermination date was moved up.

"Do not worry Princess." Sukuna tried comforting her. "Things are far from over." he said mysteriously, and smirked. Charlie didn't feel much better, but she knew she could count on her friends at least. Shortly after, they returned to the hotel, and saw the news break about the shortened time before the next extermination.

In a meeting room in Heaven

Adam sat in silence, quietly observing the streets of hell, looking for something with a drone-like craft.

"Ah there you are!" he finally found the body of a decapitated exorcist laying on the ground, golden blood pooling around it. "How the fuck did they kill that one? Maybe they betrayed us and another exorcist did it?" he mused, trying to figure out the mystery. Sukuna's words still lingered in his mind, but he couldn't make sense of it.

Suddenly, Lute burst through the door, holding clipboards and papers in her arms, breathing heavily.

"I've got the reports Sir!" she announced.

"Fuck you Lute, I already found the body." Adam said annoyed.

"But sir..." she tried to explain further, but Adam cut her off.

"I just need to find out how one of us died. I want to talk to all the other exorcists, I need to find out which one of them killed her. I mean...it couldn't have been a demon right?" he said, and chuckled nervously, his eyes darting around the room.

"I understand, but Sir..." Lute started again, but Adam was in another train of thought, got distracted.

"WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT LUTE?" Adam raged, not understanding what else his subordinate wanted from him.

"There is more." Lute finally managed to say. "It wasn't just one. We're missing 17 exorcists in total." she said, barely believing her own words. But she investigated the case herself, she could have made a mistake as huge as this.

"Holy shit..." Adam said stunned. "17 of us died? How am I only finding out about this now? I thought we cannot die... and where are the bodies?" he thought, trying to comprehend the gravity of the situation.

"We need to find out who that bodyguard was. I'm sure he's connected to this." Adam said, thinking it was his best idea ever.

"Well, duh...he pointed it out in the first place." Lute's offhanded remark sent Adam into a spiral of rage, destroying everything in the room like a child throwing a tantrum.
