Chapter 294 - Chapter 293 - Hope Echoes through Japan.

[Chapter Size: 2200 Words.]

Third Person POV

Japan.

...

...

Aichi, located in the central part of the country.

[Trrr-trrr-trrr!]

The sets of bullets being fired from the guns echoed through the streets as Japanese army men continued attacking from behind the trenches made with cars on the main street.

The giant advanced toward them, its steps crushing the ground and everything on it, meeting the rain of bullets, and even with explosions hitting its shoulder and belly — launched by Japanese war tanks — everything that emerged from the explosion's smoke was completely untouched skin.

"Damn it, we need to get out of here!", shouted the commander, his gaze terrified as the giant drew closer and closer to them. Now they had been marked.

"Retreat! Retreat!", he gave the order, making a hand gesture for everyone to abandon their posts. The machine guns began to stop firing and the soldiers quickly started to fall back, rifles still in hand, shooting as they fled — but that didn't slow the giant even for a second.

The creature was much faster than the running men, and they soon looked back in pure desperation, the footsteps thundering closer and closer.

"Damn it! Hurry! Faster!", one of the men muttered in despair, while the giant watched them with indifference, as if they were worms about to die. That only heightened their panic.

Even the tanks were useless: they were crushed under the giant's feet, being flattened with men still inside — unable to get out in time. The explosions echoed, but nothing stopped the creature.

In the corner of the city, thousands of people were being rushed into buses, but the highways were blocked, cars jammed by the sheer amount of people trying to flee at the same time. It was absolute chaos, pure panic.

Then, a shadow lunged directly toward where the giant was, still pursuing the humans with weapons. The soldiers, still running, felt something behind them — and suddenly, a massive dark figure struck the side of the giant, hurling it against entire buildings, blowing them apart as the soldiers watched, stunned, turning their heads.

The giant emerged from the debris roaring, trying to punch the black creature that had attacked it: a colossal figure with the appearance of a sea creature, due to its fins, immensely large, holding a trident as big as the giant itself.

"What is that...?", murmured one of the soldiers, unable to fully distinguish the dark shape against the dark sky — if not for the purple lights outlining the monster's body. It was another type of creature, something completely different, defending itself and attacking the giant with equal power.

The soldiers didn't think twice before distancing themselves even further from that insane scene. They watched from afar when they heard the giant roar in pain — the trident had been thrust into its chest.

The giant was wounded. For the first time, when their weapons did nothing against him.

The shadowy creature held him and slammed him onto the ground with brutal force, blowing up the entire road, sending cars flying into the air in successive explosions. Then it moved the trident, lifting it before driving it directly into the giant's neck.

"What just happened...?!"

The question echoed in the minds of all the soldiers as they watched the giant struggle for a few seconds, until finally falling still. It was dead. As surreal as it was, it had happened right before their eyes.

The black giant pulled out the trident. He was none other than the boss of the dungeon that had broken loose in Atlantis — stronger than that giant. An S-rank monster, mid-level, who had just killed an S-rank giant — even if considered low-level — in only a few blows.

The people there were confused and cautious, looking at the shadow giant. Then, the giant simply began walking through the city, moving away from them as if he didn't care. Not only that, but the soldiers also began seeing other shadows emerging in the streets — humanoid creatures with red outlines — walking among the debris. The soldiers immediately raised their rifles, trembling.

"What are those things...?"

"Wait. Don't shoot," said the commander, narrowing his eyes.

The creatures stared at them for a few seconds, but soon ignored them. They went directly to the demolished buildings farther from that street, away from the battle zone of the giant and the other shadow giant.

The soldiers watched from a distance, perplexed, as the shadow orcs began removing debris with ease. It didn't matter how thick the concrete blocks were — the shadows of the red orcs lifted them as if they weighed nothing.

The next moment, they heard screams. There were people trapped there. The orc pulled them out from the rubble; even with the humans screaming and begging it not to do anything, the creature simply placed them carefully outside. They were stunned and frightened by those creatures, but it was undeniable that they were being helped, especially when the orcs tried to smile with those characteristic teeth.

And this wasn't happening only in that city. All of it was Severus's doing — the ones he had released from Yokohama. He had gone to several places in the country, even to cities where no giants were present. Rescue teams suddenly found themselves surrounded by shadows that began helping — initially frightening, but soon realized to be unexpected reinforcements — rescuing trapped people, carrying structures, removing debris.

With some caution, humans and shadows began working together, even though suspicious glances were always cast at those creatures made of darkness and purple light, with a few other monster variations.

Meanwhile, Dumbledore materialized in Gifu, in a city where a group of wizards had organized to stop one of the giants. They were gathered in an isolated area, broomsticks in one hand and wands in the other. Along with thousands of Muggle soldiers, this would be one of the largest operations with hope of taking down a giant for the first time, since they still had no news of Severus Prince.

"Minister!", shouted a wizard as soon as he spotted the Japanese Minister of Magic arriving, accompanied by important figures. Among them were Dumbledore himself and Vicência Santos with part of the Veil Guardians, who had come to observe the situation.

There were also Muggles among the wizards, mainly an army commander and even a general who organized the troops equipped with military technology to stop the giant.

Despite this, in a corner of the place, the leader of the Muggles, a general, was arguing with the president of Japan at that moment.

"The United States wants us to do this, because if this goes beyond Japan, they will retaliate after taking down the giants..." said the deep voice on the phone.

"Please, this is madness, Mr. President! We must not act like this, we will only destroy ourselves!", the general shouted into the phone. They were discussing the possibility of using an atomic bomb in Tokyo to stop the most powerful monster — the one that still remained motionless in the center of the city.

"You want us to wait for that creature to start moving? The city is isolated! If the smaller monsters already caused this destruction, imagine a creature four times larger," the president replied. "General, do you think I want to isolate Tokyo with radiation for the next decades? But something even more threatening is there."

"General, general—" Before the general could continue the discussion, the radio attached to his chest began to sound.

"Not now! I'm on the phone with the president!", the general snarled as he answered the radio.

"Wait, general! Something is happening all over Japan!", insisted the man on the radio.

The general, realizing that this was more urgent than the discussion with the president, responded, "Tell me then." He didn't care that the president heard it.

"Listen… a giant has been taken down in Yokohama. Witnesses saw a man fight it with relative ease. The first giant fell in Yokohama!"

The general was completely shocked. The city had already been abandoned, and other perimeters were being lifted around the region while they tried to predict where the monsters would go. Hearing that one of them had fallen left him and the president stunned.

"How… how did this happen?", murmured the president on the other end, in an urgent tone, as if he had just stood up from the table — wherever he was.

"My men on-site said he simply used a dagger and cut the creature's neck," replied the man on the radio, leaving both the general and the president in absolute silence. "They also said this man teleported all the people from the city to a safe place. They say he's one of those wizards — which I believe, since he used magic. But… not that I know of any wizard strong enough to punch a giant with his bare hand, as my men reported."

"And there's more, general," continued the man before the general could say anything. "They saw his shadow expand into several shapes and move to various places, crawling across the ground in all directions. And now I'm receiving reports of strange shadows appearing on the battlefield and in destroyed areas. A giant was killed by a giant shadow. Others are helping remove debris and rescue people. My men don't know what these shadows are. We asked some wizards, and they didn't know either. The shadows don't speak."

Questions began forming in the minds of both the general and the president when someone approached them, making the security guards immediately raise their weapons toward an old man wearing a wizard's cloak, accompanied by a woman.

"We are not here to threaten you, general. We heard your conversation and we know what is happening. We came immediately to warn you about someone who has arrived to help Japan," said Dumbledore, making the general lower the radio and allow him to approach so he could answer their questions.

Somewhere else in Japan.

"A giant was defeated in Yokohama!", soldiers exclaimed upon hearing the news over the radios. The broadcasts, which were being updated constantly with the country's situation, quickly spread the information, making everyone pay attention to the mysterious man who had defeated the first giant.

Soon came the second news:

The second giant had also been defeated, and shadows were appearing in several cities, rescuing people without hurting them, despite their monstrous shapes. One of the shadows took down a third giant!

The Yokohama region had been liberated.

Three giants had been slain.

This proved they were not invincible.

The entire country cheered at the news.

Amid the destruction, people began to have hope again, praying that all the giants would be destroyed.

The president soon began giving a live interview on the radio and TV, sharing the news and talking about the shadows which, according to Dumbledore — the wizard who answered his questions — were soldiers of a man called Severus Prince, the only person in the world capable of defeating the giants.

The whole country began turning its attention to this man named Severus Prince.

The princess of Atlantis heard her men commenting on the news being broadcast, unable to hide her surprise. She was in a coastal city on the eastern side of Japan, preparing to go after the giant that had gone to the bottom of the sea. They believed it was a threat, and using technology with advantages underwater, they were attempting to take it down — though without success so far. The princess watched her men and companions in astonishment, each with their own thoughts about what they had just heard.

"He is here… then it means everything will be alright," said her adviser, an old man with a staff, sighing in relief.

"That guy really is surprising," her guard responded, holding the magical human weapon.

She only nodded, lost in her own thoughts. Severus had saved Atlantis… and left before they could thank him. Now, he was here, saving Japan.

In another region of the country, farther south, a large group of vampires was gathered in a camp to fight two giants advancing toward the same city. Jets roared through the air, launching missiles, and explosions erupted as they struck the giants — but nothing stopped them. People were still in the city, running, screaming, searching for shelter.

Rosária was with her father when she received the news that Severus was also in Japan.

"He's here...", she said in a whisper full of relief.

"I know you want to find him, Rosária, but first let's focus on these giants. We'll think about him afterward," said Dracula in a serious tone, while his sister and her husband were also present.

"I can't believe that human managed to defeat two of those creatures...", murmured the white-haired woman, clearly dissatisfied. She was Rosária's sister and Dracula's first daughter.

"Dad already said Severus is stronger than him. Why don't you admit it? There's no one stronger than my future husband!", Rosária retorted, sticking her tongue out at her sister.

Her sister merely clicked her tongue without replying, while everyone prepared to face one of the giants advancing toward them.
