The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the training yard. I stood there, sweat dripping from my brow, fingers clenching around the hilt of my sword until my knuckles turned white.
The air was thick with the scent of freshly cut grass and the metallic tang of steel. The rhythmic clinking of blade against blade was a familiar melody in our household—one I had grown up with, one that had become both comfort and torment.
