Chapter 79: Oh, Fuck You
A few minutes later*
"Should we head down too… or wait?" I glance over at Momoyo and Xanxus.
The wind brushes past us as we remain the only ones left on the rooftop, everyone else having already jumped down to greet Tsuna and his group.
"Actually…" I pause, narrowing my eyes as I watch the scene below. "Why are we dealing with a bunch of middle schoolers when we could just—" I drag my thumb slowly across my throat, leaving the rest unsaid.
"Mafia rules?" Momoyo shrugs lightly, though her eyes flick with curiosity rather than indifference. She shifts her weight, then glances toward Xanxus, clearly expecting him to fill in the gaps. "Or maybe…" Tilting her head slightly. "It's about making it official—getting Xanxus recognized as the successor of the Vongola Family. That way, any rebels won't have a reason to push back."
Xanxus doesn't reply. He simply stands there, gaze fixed on the scene below as it continues to unfold. His expression remains unreadable, cold, and distant.
I tilt my head back, eyes tracing the night sky once more as I quietly double-check the readings coming through the Astrological Divination. Making sure nothing is misaligned before I decide on my next move.
"Ah, fuck off…!" I growl under my breath, irritation snapping through the moment the results settle into something I didn't want to see. My jaw tightens as I glare up at the night sky for a beat too long.
The outburst is enough to draw attention; both Momoyo and Xanxus turn their heads toward me, their gazes sharpening as they catch the shift in my mood.
I step over the edge of the rooftop and drop down, the wind rushing past me for a brief moment before I land beside Xanxus' group, the Varia, with no impact of injuries from the fall. Without hesitation, I straighten and begin walking forward.
My focus settles on one of them in particular—Lussuria. A man dressed in an open trench coat trimmed with thick orange fur around the hood, his brown hair styled with a distinct streak of green, swept to the side. His tall, muscular frame, along with the metal plate fixed over his left knee. Red-rimmed sunglasses rest on his face, giving him a strangely flamboyant presence.
"Something the matter?" Lussuria asks, his tone light but edged with caution as his gaze lingers on me a second longer than usual. "Does Boss need me for something before I enter the arena for the Sun Ring Battle?"
"I've seen the future…" I say quietly, my voice low as I lock eyes with Lussuria, not giving him a chance to brush it off. "So don't even think about playing around in that fight." I take a small step closer, my stare hardening just enough to make the warning clear. "If you lose…" I pause for a fraction of a second, letting it sink in. "Xanxus won't hesitate. He'll shoot you dead."
Lussuria slowly tilts his head upward, his gaze drifting past my shoulder. His throat bobs with a noticeable gulp before he lowers his head again, a fraction slower this time. His posture tightens just slightly as the weight of the warning sinks in.
"As for the rest of you…" I sweep my gaze across the Varia, meeting each glare head-on as they stiffen, doing their best to look unfazed and ready for anything. A faint smirk tugs at the corner of my mouth. "Good luck."
Before anyone can respond, I vanish from sight. In an instant, I reappear beside Momoyo and Xanxus.
"Well, I did what was needed. We can leave whenever you want, Momoyo." I act like I wasn't so pissed by the results from the previous reading of the future.
For a brief moment, the urge to enter Sefirah Castle tugs at my mind, but I force it down before it can take root. Instead, I draw upon Astrological Divination once more, quietly rechecking the flow of possible outcomes and the hidden currents of fate. After confirming that my actions have aligned with what was required, at least for now.
And then it clicks again, why I was pissed in the first place. The moment I look at the night sky to use Astrological Divination, the pattern shifts, wrong in a way that's far too intended to ignore.
The fucking Fates are interfering—subtly, but enough. They're nudging the celestial entities themselves, bending the readings so that the paths I should be seeing get overwritten by outcomes they want instead. The routes I was aiming for twist just out of reach, replaced with alternatives that feel… curated.
I glance briefly at the Fool's Uniqueness, then draw upon the symbol of Blind Stupidity within the Mind Domain, corresponding to the authority of Fooling over the Fates themselves. With that power, I forcefully lower their intelligence, dulling their thoughts until they can no longer form proper judgments or interfere with the path I have chosen.
I blink as the celestial entities become incredibly easy to use for Astrological Divination, to the point that I barely need even a second to comprehend everything before me. My sight pierces through the layers of cause and effect, allowing me to perceive even the hidden traps the Fates themselves had woven into the past—traps meant to awaken only at certain key points in the future.
In fact, I begin to see everything in a brighter view as many of the routes I had avoided touching start disappearing rapidly. The change is so sudden and overwhelming that I find myself completely baffled and speechless, even as a faint hint of joy rises within me. All of this happens in a matter of seconds after speaking to Momoyo.
"You have that look on your face. Did you see something in the future that we should be worried about?" Momoyo asks, looking at me with clear concern. Beside her, Xanxus visibly tenses the moment he hears her words. "Should we abandon these Ring Battles and change our approach to helping Xanxus become the official successor of the Vongola Family?"
"Not quite." I grin at Momoyo, who blinks in surprise upon seeing my expression. "Let's just say I've been acting foolish for the past half hour or so."
In hindsight, I should have realized just how absurdly powerful the Fool's Uniqueness is compared to the other Uniquenesses, especially with even limited access to the powers of Sequence 0: Fool. Blind Stupidity is the key to my success in surviving nearly everything and making life easier for myself. It can even reach the point of making almost everyone around me act stupid, like those stories where 99% of the characters are dumber than the main character in more than one way, all for the sake of multiple face-slapping scenes.
"Anyway, we can still stick around…" I pause, then correct myself at the last second. "You two—three. Alucard, come here."
I summon the No-Life Queen to our current location, her presence settling over the area like a shadow sharpened into form.
"Give me your orders, my Master." Alucard looks at me with a mad grin, bowing slightly before me. She completely ignores Momoyo and Xanxus, even as the latter immediately aims both guns at her, his entire body tense and ready to fire at the slightest movement.
"Continue protecting Momoyo and assist her in any way." I order Alucard.
Alucard's mad grin immediately vanishes, replaced by a flat, deadpan expression as she stares at me in silence.
"Momoyo, I'm going somewhere to suppress my curses again." I continue, turning toward her. "I should be back in 5 days to help Xanxus as his temporary Cloud Guardian."
"Can't you just take me with you?" Momoyo asks, frowning as she takes a few steps forward until she is standing directly in front of me, staring into my eyes. "I'm sure you can figure out some way to see what I could help you with."
"Same here, Master." Alucard says, appearing beside me and giving me a hard stare. "Up to this point, I can literally count on my fingers how many times you have summoned me and given me orders, and I would still have fingers left over."
The sound of a gunshot rings out all of a sudden. Alucard's shadow immediately erupts outward, and numerous red eyes and sharp teeth emerge from the darkness as it catches the bullet before it can hit her.
"Hey, if you 3 pieces of trash are going to act like I'm not here, I'll shoot all of you scum dead!" Xanxus yells in rage. The scars across his forehead and left cheek seem to spread, becoming far more visible. They stretch asymmetrically across a large portion of his face, reaching around the center near his nose and eyes before spreading outward, making his expression look even more vicious and unhinged.
As I am about to say something to Xanxus, my right eyebrow twitches as I suddenly feel my Spirituality nearly run dry. In that same instant, I realize I can no longer keep Blind Stupidity active on the Fates, the fragile advantage I had been maintaining slipping from my grasp all at once.
I silently look at the night sky again, and sure enough, a brief use of Astrological Divination reveals that many routes are rapidly changing with each passing second. Even some of the specific paths I had been about to take—ones that had previously been hidden from my sight—now begin to surface, only to shift and twist as fate readjusts itself.
"That wasn't nice." Alucard says, staring at Xanxus coldly.
With a casual flick, Alucard sends the bullet, still held in one of the mouths within her shadow, flying back at him at triple the speed. Xanxus barely manages to move away in time, but not fast enough to avoid it completely. The bullet tears into his left forearm, forcing him to drop one of his handguns as it clatters to the ground.
"Really, Xanxus?" Momoyo narrows her eyes and slowly clenches her left hand into a fist. The stance she takes makes her intentions perfectly clear—she is already considering punching Xanxus if his next words fail to meet her expectations.
"Anyone in my position wouldn't like seeing two women like you two acting like that around a single man." Xanxus scoffs, paying no attention to the bullet wound in his forearm as he levels his remaining handgun at me this time. "Trash, just leave now and come back in 5 days." His voice was thick with irritation and disgust. "I don't want to see that disgusting face of yours in the meantime."
I don't need to use Astrological Divination to know that this is all Xanxus, not someone influenced by the Fates to act like this. So, without wasting another word, I grab both Momoyo and Alucard by their arms and use Traveler's Door, instantly relocating all 3 of us back to Momoyo's bedroom.
"I think we should've taken the car." Momoyo huffs as she leans against me. "At least then, we wouldn't have wasted our time standing on that roof and dealing with Xanxus' moody attitude. Honestly, if it wasn't for grandfather treating Xanxus so well, I'd say we'd be better off not helping him at all. Not with the way he shot at Alucard without warning, even if it wasn't aimed at either of us. Just the fact that he was willing to shoot in our general direction is enough to piss me off."
"Hey, Master, do you want me to go back there and teach him a lesson?" Alucard asks with a smirk, looking at me as her left cheek twitches slightly, betraying just how irritated she is as well.
