Chapter 293 Food In Abundance
The next morning, Aleshia woke up to find Lucia resting beside her like a faithful guard dog. As Aleshia got up from the floor, Lucia leaped up and took her usual spot on Aleshia's head, saying, "Good morning! How did you sleep?"
"Good morning," Aleshia replied. "I think it was fine." After their brief conversation, Aleshia headed to the kitchen, feeling hungry. As she contemplated what to eat, she also thought about preparing food for the children.
Aleshia didn't expect there to be much food when she looked into the pantry, but she was pleasantly surprised to see that the food inside had multiplied and increased in variety. She noticed that the camp's supplies now included hard breads, cabbage, various vegetables, apples, and other fruits, suggesting that the camp was prospering.
Aleshia felt proud as she looked at the abundance of food in the pantry. She reminisced about the early days when the children were thin, surviving mainly on nuts, grains, and berries. Aleshia believed that the increase in food was a result of Lucia's treatment and healing efforts. She speculated that the camp was able to gather more food because those who had been weak had recovered enough to take on tasks and jobs, resulting in more hands being available to help.
As Aleshia reminisced, Lucia remarked, "It's impressive to see how fulfilling a sight a human's pantry can be, considering how much it has expanded, despite the challenges involved in feeding so many mouths. This view brings me great satisfaction." Lucia looked down at Aleshia and added, "And it seems the same is true for you." She mimicked a smile by creasing her brim.
Aleshia reacted in kind, "Yes, it does feel rewarding to see how much this camp has grown." Reveling in the joyful mood, she began to list the foods available in the pantry and considered how to combine them into a meal. She had several different recipes to choose from, but she remembered that these ingredients were shared provisions. She wanted to ensure she had permission from Daniel before using them.
Aleshia walked to the office and found Daniel and Rebel laboring at their desks, focused on their paperwork with dark circles visible from under their eyes. Aleshia had seen this scene many times before and felt it was worth praising them for keeping up with everything. "Hello, Daniel and Rebel, good morning! Good work, you two."
Rebel and Daniel looked up from their paperwork and greeted her, "Good morning, Aleshia."
