Chapter 769, Didn't Know It Was This Serious

The news brought back by Xiaoxiao and Beni changed the situation once again.

If others had also provided photos to the other side, then the fake photos he had arranged were now useless.

"How many people gave out photos?" Wu Heng asked.

Xiaoxiao said, "I saw one, and Sister Beni found two."

Beni added, "I checked the area thoroughly and found two who gave away information. They also handed over phones."

So, the other side really was conducting this operation in an organized manner.

Grenda remarked, "Looks like not everyone in the base supports you."

"That's inevitable. People are fickle," Wu Heng said, then looked to Xiaoxiao and Beni. "Let me see who these people are."

Xiaoxiao and Beni flew into his body, and the images were shared directly.

The individuals were shown in various locations conducting the handovers.

Each one passed a phone to the other party.

Nothing unusual appeared in the footage—Wu Heng just glanced at it briefly.

He released Xiaoxiao and Beni, then walked to the window to look outside.

The two parties were still conducting their trade, verifying each other's goods.

"Uncle, are you worried they'll use your face to do bad things?" Xiaoxiao asked curiously.

Wu Heng stared outside and replied casually, "Is that how you always used your mom's money?"

Xiaoxiao crossed her arms. "I never did that."

At that moment, Wu Heng looked down, smiled, and said, "Come on, let's go take a look."

......

"Where the hell did he go? One second he's here, the next he vanishes."

"Damn it, gave me fake pics for goods? You son of a..."

Near the carport, a man grumbled while looking around.

Wu Heng walked up, and the man instantly froze.

"Come grab a smoke," Wu Heng said casually. As the man recognized his face, his brows furrowed, then widened in shock. "Skel—"

The word died on his lips.

"Let's go. I'll take you somewhere quiet to smoke," Wu Heng said.

"I-I don't smoke..." the man replied, then suddenly stiffened.

His body moved uncontrollably toward Wu Heng.

Wu Heng placed a hand on his shoulder. A magic array appeared, and both vanished in an instant.

......

Back in the original room.

The man looked around in shock, unable to process what had just happened.

His body was immobilized, as if bound, and he stammered, "Don't, we came to trade, peaceful exchange..."

"Search him," Wu Heng ordered.

A skeleton in the room stepped forward and started searching him.

A walkie-talkie, pistol, cigarettes, and a phone were placed on the table.

"This is a bit much, isn't it? If there's an issue, talk to our commander," the man said, trying to stay calm.

Wu Heng glanced at the items and started checking them.

"We can talk things through."

"At least untie me. I'll cooperate."

"Doesn't Sangbu Port promote mutual support? Treating me like this damages your image."

As Wu Heng examined the phone, the man grew increasingly anxious.

He started rambling.

Wu Heng tossed the phone aside, looked at him, and said, "Kill him. Let's question the corpse."

Crack~snap!

Before he could beg, his neck twisted around, then snapped back.

His body dropped to the ground.

[Speak with Dead] was cast, and the corpse sat upright.

Its clouded eyes stared ahead.

Wu Heng asked, "Why confirm the leader's appearance?"

The corpse replied, "Not sure. Orders came from above."

He really didn't know.

Wu Heng continued, "What do you think the purpose of this investigation is?"

The corpse hesitated, then answered slowly.

"The skeleton army keeps taking national territory. The base held several meetings about this. They discussed ways to make the skeleton leader yield land. Might be related."

So it was about the skeletons seizing territory.

The Korean side thought the skeletons eliminating zombies and taking land amounted to occupying their country.

They'd previously tried to negotiate, asking for all occupied areas to be returned, offering Wu Heng an honorary post.

He didn't remember the exact title, but it sounded ceremonial.

Wu Heng couldn't understand their logic. If skeletons didn't clear zombies, they'd let survivors starve.

When he did the cleanup, they cried about territory.

They had the energy to scheme about him but not to help survivors themselves.

He couldn't make sense of it.

Wu Heng sat in silence, thinking.

The three ghosts floated nearby, whispering guesses about their motives.

One young, two from another world, they speculated maybe it was for cursing via his image, or using face-swapping tech to spread false info.

Possible, but the risk didn't seem worth it.

After thinking for a while, Wu Heng asked, "Who knows the purpose of collecting the photos?"

"The director, or some department heads."

"Where are they?"

"At the base."

One last question. "What's your name?"

"Shin Dongmin."

The five questions ended, and the corpse lay back down.

Grenda asked curiously, "Why ask that? Planning to build him a grave?"

Wu Heng pulled a Faceless Mask from his ring, placing it on the corpse's face. "We're going to their base. No time to waste on guessing games."

With the Ekow Kingdom Kingdom's schemes and the Church targeting him...

Wu Heng didn't have time for slow investigations.

Modern tech killed from afar better than anything in the other world. This needed resolving fast.

"Going to their base? Lilith's still on Gold-Silver Island," Grenda said.

"She'll be fine. It's just one night," Wu Heng replied.

"Mhm, she's nice," Xiaoxiao nodded.

As they spoke, the mask finished copying the corpse's face.

Wu Heng changed into the corpse's clothes and pocketed the phone, cigarettes, and gun.

"Wu Heng, looks like the trade outside ended," Beni said from the window.

He walked over and saw Qi Hancai and the others standing by the building entrance, talking.

Wu Heng picked up the walkie-talkie. "Sister Qi, please come over."

Her voice replied, "Okay, wait a second."

He waited in the room.

Qi Hancai entered, glanced at the body, then at Wu Heng in disguise.

"You killed someone? It got that serious?"

"They had others collecting photos. We found three. Handle them."

Qi Hancai grew serious. "Who? I'll kill them."

"Three Koreans. One with a mole on his upper lip, square face. One in red under a stab-proof vest. One with a ponytail and lip gloss—also male."

"Got it," Qi Hancai nodded, then eyed his outfit. "What's this for?"

"I'm going to their base to investigate."

"You're following them back?"

Wu Heng nodded, putting on the mask and fully assuming the dead man's appearance.

Qi Hancai widened her eyes. "Whoa, disguise technique!"

"You handle things here. I'll report back."

"Got it." Qi Hancai nodded and left.

Wu Heng watched from the window, then used Teleportation to appear near the carport.

He quickly walked toward the Korean convoy.

......

"Damn, where'd you go?" someone cursed.

Wu Heng lowered his voice, "Guy gave me fake pics for two boxes of smokes. I had to beat him up."

"Whatever, get in. We're heading back," the man urged.

Wu Heng climbed into the truck.

Others boarded, waiting for the lead to finish talking with Qi Hancai.

Soon, the Korean leader parted from Qi Hancai and returned to the lead armored vehicle.

The radio confirmed the headcount.

All clear.

The convoy departed.

......

At the gate.

Qi Hancai watched the convoy fade into the distance, her smile turning icy.

She turned around and said coldly, "Shut the gates. Gather all Korean personnel in the square."

Her aides glanced at each other, realizing something big had happened.

Still, they nodded. "Yes, ma'am."

Soon, everyone assembled in the central square, including both the Korean base members and transferred survivors.

They formed two squads on the open ground.

"Sister Qi, everyone's here," someone reported.

Qi Hancai nodded and walked straight into the Korean side, scrutinizing every face.

"You. Step out."

"You two as well."

The three she pointed to stepped forward, some already sweating nervously.

Qi Hancai stared at them. "Know why I called you out?"

"No, ma'am!" one gritted out.

Qi Hancai smiled coldly. "Take them. Kill them."

Everyone froze.

They were going to kill them?

Clatter~!

Several skeletons arrived and dragged the men toward a flower bed.

Now the three panicked.

"Deputy Leader! I know why! I gave them a photo!"

One shouted. The other two cried out too.

"I was wrong! I won't do it again!"

"Please let me go! I didn't know it was this serious!"
