Chapter 9 - chapter 9: betrayal, a demon's menace

The night city was alive , neon lights flickered across skyscrapers, music thumped through the air, and laughter echoed down crowded streets.

A sleek Lamborghini cruised down the highway at a steady pace. Inside, a young man with jet-black hair rested his chin on his hand, eyes lazily scanning the vibrant city outside.

Humans laughing and chatting.

Kids running around.

Engines roaring.

Billboards flashing ads.

Void smiled faintly.

"Sigh… past memories."

He turned his gaze toward the driver , a nervous man clutching the steering wheel tightly.

"Hey, Lin Feng, right?" Void asked casually.

"Y–yes, my lord. What do you need?" Lin Feng stammered.

Even though Void appeared completely human, there was something wrong about him , something that made Lin Feng's heart race. The young man's mere presence radiated an otherworldly pressure, a devilish charm that sent chills crawling down his spine.

"Stop shaking," Void frowned. "And you're sweating too much."

Lin Feng quickly wiped his forehead, trying to calm down and focus on the road.

"Good," Void said, relaxing into his seat. "Be quick. After this, take me to a club or something."

A smirk crossed his face. This world reminded him of Earth not that it mattered. It would soon be destroyed. But before that… Void had some things to experience.

For one, he still hadn't lost his virginity.

Even as a demon, his memories as an 18-year-old virgin on Earth haunted him. And now, in this new human world, that craving had followed him.

Lin Feng blinked in confusion. "A club, my lord?"

"Oh, you want to ask how I knew about that?" Void chuckled, adjusting into a more comfortable position. "Let's just say I've been to a similar planet before."

He grinned. "Tell me, human , what do you wish for?"

Void had decided to talk like an alien from one of those old movies. It amused him.

Lin Feng hesitated. "I… I need to think."

"Sigh. Call me Void. That's my name," he replied. "Let's get along, okay?"

"O–okay… Void," Lin Feng managed, still trembling.

He took a deep breath, forcing himself to relax. If he wanted to chase his growing ambition, he needed to stay composed.

"My former goal was just to enjoy life," Lin Feng muttered, "but ever since I came to this world....."

He stopped abruptly, realizing he'd said too much.

The car fell silent.

"You mean," Void said with a smirk, "you're a transmigrator? Interesting."

Lin Feng froze.

Void's mind raced. So this world already has a transmigrator and he's the villain type? Wait… this setup…

He realized something.

This world's will was using the villain and protagonist to evolve , to create Rank 0 beings that would strengthen the planet's core. But now that Void had arrived, everything was accelerating beyond its design.

"Dangerous…" Void muttered.

Originally, his plan was simple: play around, help the villain build a secret organization, watch them fight for dominance, then devour their souls when they fell. After that, cause some chaos, maybe detonate a few nukes, and finally return to the Abyss.

But now… he wanted something bigger.

To kill the world's consciousness itself.

"Right," Lin Feng said, breaking the silence. "Why aren't you surprised by any of this?"

"I'm a demon," Void replied smoothly. "I know about these things."

Lin Feng nodded, still tense. "I won't ask for eternal life not even you are strong enough to grant that."

Void chuckled. "You're not wrong."

"Then killing Haojun would be a waste," Lin Feng continued. "Even if I kill him, the world will just choose another Son of Destiny."

"Smart," Void commented, amused.

"So that leaves me with one option ..., power." Lin Feng smirked. "But there's a loophole, isn't there? If you give me power, I'll have to pay in souls. I guess I've already stepped into a pit."

"Oh, how about both?" Void grinned.

"Both?" Lin Feng blinked.

"Power and an organization. Build both, make it fun and bring me souls."

Lin Feng smiled nervously. "Thank you… in advance, Void."

"Good," Void said, clicking his tongue as they pulled up to the Lin mansion , a sprawling palace of glass and steel. "Rich people sure know how to live."

Meanwhile, on the other side of the city…

In a small house near the outskirts, a young man gripped his phone tightly.

"Yes, Grandpa. I'm not crazy , it's not some experiment. It's worse," Haojun said grimly. "We need to eradicate it soon, or we'll all die."

At the other end of the line, an elderly man sat behind a desk cluttered with maps and military documents. His face was weathered, a scar cutting across one eyebrow, his uniform neat despite his age. A rifle rested on the table beside him.

"Alright," the old man said calmly. "So what's the plan?"

"Tomorrow, I'll meet him again at the Lin mansion. Lin Feng is in contact with him. Yes, I'll be careful. No bombs , they won't work. Don't send soldiers to die."

Haojun ended the call and collapsed back onto his bed, staring at the ceiling.

Back in the office, the old general rubbed his temples and sighed.

Even after reaching the rank of Six-Star General, he couldn't rest .., not at his age, not with the weight of the world on his shoulders.

"I hope that kid knows what he's doing," the old man muttered. "Demons…"

He picked up the phone again and made another call.

Void and Lin Feng entered the Lin mansion, and Lin Feng quickly introduced Void as a "friend" to his family.

To explain Void's earlier nakedness, Lin Feng made up a story, got him some clothes, and later that night, they both went out to a club.

By 2 a.m., they returned. Lin Feng was weak and exhausted, while Void… was very satisfied.

(Ahem , ten thousand words omitted.)

10 a.m. – The Lin Mansion

The mansion was unusually quiet. Lin Feng had dismissed all the maids earlier, leaving only himself and Void inside.

A car horn sounded outside. Lin Feng glanced through the window ..., Lei Bai.

Inside, Void lounged casually on the couch, watching. Seeing her walk in with Haojun made him raise an eyebrow.

She was gorgeous.

Delicate face, long hair, curves wrapped in a soft gown, light makeup that emphasized her eyes , pure beauty.

But her cold expression ruined the charm.

Haojun, on the other hand, barely noticed the luxury of the mansion. His eyes darted around, searching for the demon. Yet no matter how hard he looked, he couldn't sense him.

Lin Feng waved casually.

"Lei Bai."

She gave him a cold glance and sat down without a word.

Lin Feng frowned. "Who said you could sit down?"

Lei Bai froze, stunned. She'd expected Lin Feng to fawn over her like always not this. Normally, she'd make herself at home here.

She crossed her arms. "Hmph. Don't think changing your tone will change how I feel about you. I'll never love you."

Her voice trembled slightly from embarrassment. Her cheeks were red, but she stood up reluctantly. Lin Feng ignored her words completely. Haojun frowned but stayed silent.

"You came here to end the engagement, didn't you?" Lin Feng asked, sipping from his wine glass.

Lei Bai was surprised , how did he know? Still, she had no hesitation.

"Yes."

"Alright then. It's over. Get out."

Her brows furrowed. "Can I take your word for it, Mr. Lin?" she asked coldly.

"My words are worth more than you and your family," Lin Feng said flatly. "Now leave. Haojun stays."

Lei Bai was furious but held her tongue. Fine , she'd gotten what she came for. She turned to leave.

Then she heard it .. clap… clap… clap.

From the shadows, a dark-skinned man stepped out, his eyes glowing faintly red.

He was handsome , unnaturally so with a devilish charm that made her heart skip.

"Well done, Lin Feng," Void said softly, his grin widening. "Now… let's dispose of the annoyance, shall we?"

The words made Haojun freeze. He realized instantly what was about to happen.

"NO!" he shouted, rushing forward but he was too late.

Snap!

A chilling crack echoed through the room. Lei Bai's body went limp, her neck twisted unnaturally. She hit the floor soundlessly.

Haojun stared, his hands trembling. He couldn't move , Void's gaze pinned him like prey.

That smile… that monstrous, twisted smile.

"Ah, Lin Feng… Haojun…" Void said, turning slowly.

Even Lin Feng, who had seen death before, paled. The smile stretched almost to Void's ears , inhuman, terrifying.

"I wanted to spare you both for a while," Void said, his voice calm yet chilling. "I wanted to enjoy this world a bit… maybe help you, Lin Feng. But you disappointed me."

He tilted his head. "Run."

The tone in his voice sent ice down Lin Feng's spine. He didn't think , he just ran.

He burst outside, jumped into his Lamborghini, and sped off into the night.

******

"Now then," Void said, turning to Haojun. "I heard you don't feel pain. Even when your bones break, you stay silent… Let's test that."

Haojun's breath hitched. He couldn't move. Every muscle locked as Void's presence crashed over him like the weight of a mountain.

It was like being watched by a prehistoric predator.

*******

Meanwhile, Lin Feng stopped his car at the edge of Junbai Forest. He was trembling.

"Why am I running?" he muttered. "If Void snaps… the whole world will be destroyed. Where can I even go?"

He shouted, "System! System, come out! System!!"

Silence.

No answer.

The system had abandoned him.

Then, a scream pierced the night.

"Aaahhh!! HELP ME! PLEASE! (sob)… MAKE IT STOP! KILL ME!! AAAAAH!!"

Lin Feng froze. That voice… Haojun.

Even though he was over 20 kilometers away, Lin Feng heard it , loud, clear, and horrifying.

Haojun was a trained soldier ,disciplined, hardened, immune to pain.

What could make him scream like that?

Lin Feng's stomach turned. He peed himself from fear, trembling violently.

He started the car again, desperate to drive away but something slammed onto the roof.

BOOM!

Lin Feng's heart stopped. Slowly, he looked up.

A mutilated human body lay sprawled across his windshield.

The flesh was peeled off completely, the skin laid separately. The muscles were raw, exposed, crawling with ants. Salt had been poured into the wounds; sugar stuffed under the fingernails. Internal organs had been rearranged ,some burned, others pierced with sharp sticks, centimeter by centimeter.

It was grotesque beyond words.

Lin Feng gagged and stumbled out of the car, vomiting.

Then, a shadow loomed.

He looked up and there was Void.

That same twisted smile.

His body began to change , bones cracking, flesh tearing, skin splitting as muscles warped and stretched. But he didn't scream. Not once.

His expression never wavered from that monstrous grin.

When the transformation ended, a 4.1-meter-tall demon stood where Void had been.

"Yours will be quick," Void said softly.

And before Lin Feng could react ..

chomp!

his head was gone.
