J. L. Group was considered the largest group of companies in Los Angeles and beyond. Their headquarter was located in England, where the Donovans were based. Julian Donovan, as the Donovan heir had taken over the company after the death of his father, Derek Donovan.
Due to a past accident, Julian had been unable to remain in England so he moved over to L.A and controlled the J. L. Group from there leaving the headquarters to be handled by the few people he could trust, including his younger brother and his cousin.
J. L. Group was just an hour drive from the mansion but Lyra felt like it was taking years. She was getting uncomfortable and suffocated from inhaling the tensed air that surrounded the car, she started to regret her decision. As usual, Julian didn't speak a word and just closed his eyes. She wondered why he always slept in the car, at least, that was what she had noticed whenever she rode with him. She didn't dare to look at him remembering the cold look he had passed her before agreeing to her request earlier. It was deadly and she wasn't sure she wanted to see it again.
She didn't want to make him angry by saying something stupid. His calmness alone was terrifying, she couldn't imagine his anger. Lyra sighed. Did she do the right thing? She had never been a personal assistant before, she just thought she could do it because it sounded like an easier job. Not like she was looking for an easier job in the first place, she didn't mind doing any work but it was the easiest way to get close to him. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. 'There's nothing wrong with what you're doing Lyra' she assured herself.
In a few minutes, the car came to a stop bringing Lyra out of her thoughts. From the window, she could see the gigantic building in front of them. The car door was suddenly opened by Caleb who had gotten out from the passengers seat and Julian stepped out. Lyra hesitated a little before finally getting down and the door was closed behind her. Now standing in front of the building, her eyes widened at the sight. It wasn't just big, it was so high she had to lift her head to look at the top. She had seen tall buildings but none was this tall. This one probably had more than 20 floors. This was his company and he was the boss. How rich was the man she had married?
"Miss. Levine?" She snapped out of her thoughts again from Caleb's voice. "Shall we?" He asked gesturing his hands towards the direction Julian took. She nodded and followed Caleb who led her towards a hall with an elevator at the middle. They both caught up with Julian who stood straight waiting for the elevator door to open. When it did, he entered without looking back. Caleb made a gesture asking Lyra to go in which she obliged with shaking legs. He got in as well and the elevator closed moving up to the floor where Julian's office was located.
To Lyra's surprise, the elevator came to a stop at the 40th floor where the President's office was located. Lyra had never heard of or seen a building that had 40 floors but she was inside one and she was the boss' wife. 'contract wife' she reminded herself. She walked behind Julian in slow strides and noticed the hall was empty. Where's everyone? Why is it so quiet? She looked around but couldn't find any offices around. She decided to just ignore what she couldn't understand and stopped walking when she noticed Caleb had stopped. She looked forward and her mouth dropped at the sight in front of her. Was this an office? It looked like a tourist sight. The walls were transparent and she could see the inside of the office from where she stood.
It was wide and seemed to be the only office on that floor. The interior looked like a living room but then there was an office desk and chair. It was white and black themed. The chairs in the office were all white and the desk was black. "This is the boss' office." Caleb finally said and Lyra nodded still lost. It was Mr. Donovan's office. Hmm, it did fit his ice cold personality. "Mine is the one over there." Caleb pointed to an office by the side of the hall that Lyra didn't notice until now.
This office was smaller but it was also looking nice and neat. She took her eyes back to the big office she had been admiring, that was when she noticed Julian wasn't in sight. Where did he suddenly go? She turned to Caleb to ask him. "As for you Miss Levine, you getting hired was so sudden, there was no time to prepare an office for you so as my personal assistant, you'll have to share my office with me until yours is ready." Lyra nodded in understanding. She didn't have a problem with sharing his office. " Where did Mr. Donovan go? " she finally asked. " He is inside his office."
Lyra narrowed her eyes at Caleb's reply. Wasn't she just looking there? When and how did he get inside the office? She turned back to face the transparent wall and was startled to see the Stunning Man inside the office staring at her from behind the desk where he sat. How did he get there and how come she didn't see him walk in? How long has he been staring at her? Is he a ghost or something? These thoughts ran through Lyra's mind as she stared back at him. Suddenly, all the questions flushed away as she noticed his cold eyes. Her breath seized.
"Miss Levine? Are you alright?" Lyra quickly took her eyes to the floor and nodded. She quickly rushed towards the other office and closed the door. 'Lyra, breathe in and breathe out.' she told herself taking in deep breaths. She mentally reminded herself to never look in his eyes again. Remembering those eyes, she couldn't help but hope she never had to go into his office less she freezes to death. His cold demeanor was nothing she could understand or handle...
