Chapter 401 - Chapter 402: The Trap

It's well-known that Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu is the signature ninjutsu of the Uchiha clan.

Yet, at such a critical moment, the enemy had chosen this very technique to confront him. What were they thinking?

It's not like he hadn't demonstrated his mastery of fire-element chakra earlier. He had used plenty of fire-based techniques just moments ago.

Did they assume he didn't know this jutsu? Even if that were the case, the fireball they had just conjured clearly lacked proficiency.

With such a feeble attempt, they still dared to use it?

Qing Ming shook his head, dismissing further thoughts. He quickly formed hand signs, completing the jutsu in an instant.

Opening his mouth, he spat out a massive fireball—it was also Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!

Boom!

The two fireballs collided mid-air, instantly obliterating the opponent's fireball into scattered sparks that fell in all directions.

Qing Ming's fireball, however, continued on its trajectory, crashing toward the Mist ninja.

The enemy reacted swiftly, escaping by using the Substitution Jutsu just before impact.

Qing Ming paid them no further mind. With a thought, the chakra wings on his back fluttered gently, preparing to lift him away from the surrounding buildings.

But at that moment, three beams of light shot out from the nearby structures, converging just above his head.

Qing Ming abruptly halted and looked up.

In the next instant, three light screens appeared, forming a triangular pyramid with their meeting point as the apex, trapping him inside.

"Barrier…"

Seeing this, Qing Ming murmured under his breath.

Indeed, this triangular prism of light was a sealing barrier.

Scanning his surroundings, he noticed a large number of Mist ninjas quickly occupying nearby structures, encircling him completely.

Among them, Qing Ming recognized some familiar figures—Mei Terumi, Ao, Yuki Kaze, and other elite Mist jonin he had previously faced.

Clearly, this was a trap.

Reflecting on everything that had just happened, Qing Ming realized some of the ballista positions had seemed undermanned earlier. Though Mist ninjas had actively adjusted their defenses when he noticed, the oversight felt suspicious.

For such crucial war equipment to lack proper guarding—especially when they knew he was targeting them—was odd.

At the time, Qing Ming had acted impulsively, thinking the opportunity was too good to pass up.

But looking back, the placement of the exposed ballistae and the ones he had destroyed all seemed deliberately arranged.

Adding in the sudden activation of the sealing barrier now, it was clear—this was an intentional lure.

"What a well-executed plan!"

After piecing it together, Qing Ming's face darkened.

But the irritation lasted only a moment before fading away.

The enemy's calculations were indeed precise.

For anyone else in the ninja world, facing such a predicament would be a nightmare.

But for him, it was different.

Qing Ming studied the surrounding barrier.

Unlike the Four Mist Sealing Formation he had encountered previously, this new sealing barrier, while smaller, was clearly more robust.

It was evident that Mist Village had learned from his mysterious escape last time and had tried a different sealing method this time.

However, no matter the type of sealing barrier, unless it could immediately incapacitate him and prevent him from using his Mangekyō Sharingan, it was futile. With the Heavenly Crossing technique, he could easily bypass such confinements.

In other words, this so-called "trap" wasn't really a trap for him.

Even so, Qing Ming didn't rush to leave.

Revealing his Mangekyō Sharingan was a last resort—better to avoid unnecessary exposure.

With that thought, Qing Ming scanned the Mist ninjas entering the barrier under the leadership of their jonin.

"Hm?"

Seeing this, Qing Ming raised an eyebrow.

Normally, once a sealing barrier was activated, the interior and exterior would be isolated. He couldn't get out, and they shouldn't be able to get in.

Yet these Mist ninjas were entering without issue.

Taking a closer look, Qing Ming noticed they each had a talisman affixed to their bodies.

Clearly, these talismans allowed them to bypass the barrier's restrictions.

This confirmed that the Mist ninjas had prepared thoroughly for this encounter.

'Still, the more chaotic it gets, the better my chances to slip away,' Qing Ming thought.

He quickly raised his hands, beginning to form hand signs.

But just then, a dozen shuriken flew toward him, aiming for his vital points.

It was obvious someone wanted to disrupt his jutsu.

But there was no way Qing Ming would let them succeed.

Effortlessly, he dodged the incoming shuriken while continuing to form his hand signs.

However, this was just the beginning.

The next moment, more kunai and shuriken—some with explosive tags—rained down on him.

Faced with such a relentless assault, Qing Ming had no choice but to abandon his hand signs temporarily, focusing instead on avoiding the projectiles.

Activating his Sharingan, he used the chakra wings on his back to dodge the attacks, especially the explosive tags hidden among the barrage.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Explosions echoed continuously as crimson fireballs illuminated the surroundings.

In the flickering light, a figure darted out of the flames.

Suddenly, dense white mist began spreading across the entire barrier.

"This is… Hidden Mist Jutsu!"

"Stay alert!"

A Mist jonin quickly identified the source of the white mist and shouted a warning, preparing to disperse it with a wind technique.

But just then, Ao's voice rang out across the battlefield:

"Everyone, watch out! He's trying to break out from above!"

At his words, the Mist ninjas—moving with remarkable coordination—immediately hurled their kunai, covering a vast section of the upper barrier with projectiles.

"Hngh…"

A faint grunt echoed from above.

Qing Ming glanced at the shuriken embedded in his shoulder, his expression darkening.

In the next instant, his figure vanished.

When he reappeared, he was already outside the barrier.

At that moment, a Mist jonin—responding to Ao's earlier call—leapt onto the barrier's surface.

For a split second, their eyes met.

"This is…"

The jonin's face displayed a brief confusion as they stared into Qing Ming's Mangekyō Sharingan, unable to recognize its significance.

But Qing Ming had no intention of letting them live.

In an instant, he activated Genjutsu: Sharingan.

With the power of his Mangekyō Sharingan, the genjutsu's effect was overwhelming, instantly subduing the Mist jonin.

Clang!

The sound of a blade being drawn echoed.

A flash of cold light followed.

Qing Ming decapitated the Mist jonin with a single strike of his sword.

Without delay, he formed hand signs with his left hand, unleashing another jutsu—Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu.

Boom!

A fireball shot out, engulfing the severed head in flames.

Now, any intelligence Mist Village might have hoped to extract from this jonin's remains was gone.

Sheathing his sword, Qing Ming deactivated his Mangekyō Sharingan and glanced back at the barrier below.

With a final surge of chakra, he activated Wind Style: Wind Wings and soared into the distance.

Knowing this was a trap, Qing Ming had no intention of lingering. Who knew what other plans the Mist might have in store? Leaving quickly was the wisest choice.
