"What was that?"
Flying Fish Town, within the Sealing Barrier.
Ao stared at the retreating figure of Qingming, his gaze flickering.
Just moments ago, using the Byakugan's penetrating vision, he had caught sight of an unusual energy emanating from Qingming. Despite the interference of the Water Release: Hidden Mist Technique, he was certain this was not the usual chakra flow associated with the Sharingan.
"Ao, this isn't your fault."
Nearby, Mei Terumi noticed Ao's serious expression and silence as he stared in the direction of Qingming's departure. Mistaking his demeanor for guilt over the mission's failure, she attempted to console him.
It was understandable. Since Ao had been in charge of this operation, the responsibility for letting Qingming escape naturally fell on his shoulders.
What Mei didn't know, however, was that Ao had seen something that went beyond her assumptions. And for now, Ao decided not to disclose what he had observed. Without concrete evidence, his words would carry little weight. He resolved to investigate further once they returned, to uncover the truth about the mysterious phenomenon surrounding Qingming.
Unfortunately for Ao, this would turn out to be his last chance to expose the fact that Qingming had awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan.
Elsewhere...
Qingming flew steadily through the night, replaying the events of the evening in his mind.
The ambush was a calculated trap set by Kirigakure, meticulously prepared to ensnare him. It was no surprise that he had been caught off guard. However, his response to the situation was another matter.
The Hidden Mist Technique may have obscured ordinary perception, but Ao's Byakugan likely still managed to see through some of it. Based on how Ao had accurately pinpointed his location during the battle, Qingming was certain that the Byakugan had been activated the entire time.
In all likelihood, the activation of his Mangekyō Sharingan had been noticed, with the unique chakra patterns giving him away.
"Byakugan, huh…"
Qingming muttered softly, recalling a recent mission involving reconnaissance of Kirigakure's reinforcements. At the time, his Shadow Clone had considered obtaining a Byakugan to compensate for the Sharingan's shortcomings in long-range observation. Coincidentally, his chosen target back then was Ao.
'Perhaps it's time to follow through on that plan.'
With this thought lingering in his mind, Qingming arrived at the training site where his Shadow Clones had been diligently practicing.
Having visited this location multiple times in the past few hours, Qingming knew the current training cycle wasn't yet complete. Without disturbing the clones, he found a quiet spot and settled down, glancing at the wound on his shoulder.
On the way here, he had already removed the shuriken embedded in his flesh. Now, as he inspected the wound, he noticed it had completely healed.
Remarkably, this recovery had occurred without the use of any healing techniques, simply by focusing a small amount of chakra on the injury. Within roughly ten minutes, his body had repaired itself.
Clearly, his recent transformation—boosting his Physique attribute to 19—had significantly enhanced his natural healing abilities.
"Not bad."
Satisfied, Qingming nodded to himself. Without further delay, he formed hand seals at lightning speed and activated Palm Sage Technique.
Rich Yang Release chakra surged, guided by Qingming to fortify his body.
One cycle, two cycles, three cycles…
After completing fifteen cycles of Palm Sage Technique, Qingming felt his chakra reserves running low and decided to stop. However, with his chakra at this depleted state, he recognized an excellent opportunity to practice Shadow Clone Technique.
This jutsu demanded significant chakra expenditure, and practicing it when his reserves were already low would ensure maximum efficiency.
'Time to get to work.'
Determined, Qingming formed the Ram seal and activated Shadow Clone Technique.
Poof!
With a puff of chakra smoke, a shadow clone materialized beside him. Both Qingming and his clone stood still for a moment, silently syncing their awareness. Then, Qingming dispelled the clone and repeated the process.
After twenty cycles of this training, he paused to check his progress. Opening his skill interface, he noted that his proficiency in Shadow Clone Technique had increased by 20 points.
Expressionless, he closed the interface and glanced at the time. Realizing an hour had passed, he released the ten Shadow Clones still training nearby.
In an instant, the clones vanished, and their accumulated training experience and memories flooded into Qingming's mind. He closed his eyes, carefully processing the influx of knowledge.
After about ten minutes, Qingming had fully absorbed the experiences. Without hesitation, he cast Shadow Clone Technique again, creating ten fresh clones.
These new clones inherited his current state, including all recent insights and progress. Their task now was to continue building upon that foundation.
This system of refreshing his clones' training state allowed Qingming to continuously push past his limits.
Waving them off to resume their practice, Qingming shifted his focus to a different jutsu: Mind Reflection Technique, aimed at advancing the evolution of his Sharingan.
Time passed swiftly as he alternated between his training methods. After another hour of intense effort, he completed yet another cycle of Shadow Clone Technique training, absorbed the clones' experiences, and repeated the process.
This routine was grueling and monotonous. But for Qingming, the steady growth in his skills was more than enough motivation. Watching the proficiency numbers steadily rise on his interface, he felt a deep sense of satisfaction and drove himself to train even harder.
Two hours later, dawn broke on the horizon. The pale moonlight faded, giving way to the first rays of morning.
After absorbing the training experiences of his most recent set of clones, Qingming summoned a final batch of ten clones and prepared to move out.
Casting Wind Release: Wind Wings, he soared into the sky, heading toward the Black Stone Outpost. It was time to deliver his mission report.
As for the ten remaining clones, they would continue their training for another hour before dispersing, sending their accumulated progress to Qingming wherever he might be.
Soon, he would dedicate himself fully to mastering Palm Sage Technique and Mind Reflection Technique.
