Chapter 649 - Chapter 651: Taking the Bait

Two hours later.

Night deepened.

Qingming finally completed the majority of his ninjutsu training. The only parts of today's training plan that remained were the Multi Shadow Clone Jutsu practice and the time-consuming Mystical Palm Technique and Heart Reflection Technique.

However, it was already late at night, and if he delayed any longer, the gates of Konoha would close.

Unlike Anbu ninjas, Qingming was unfamiliar with the coded techniques used to bypass the village's sensory barriers. Recklessly sneaking in might alert the village, which could lead to unnecessary trouble.

So, it was better to head back sooner rather than later.

With that thought, Qingming didn't linger.

Extinguishing the campfire before him and gathering his belongings, he activated Wind Release: Wind Wings and Chakra Cloak.

With a "whoosh," he transformed into a streak of green light, flying at full speed toward Konoha.

Half an hour later, Qingming returned to the outskirts of the village.

By now, there were few people around.

Under the watchful eyes of the two gatekeeping ninjas, Qingming entered the village.

But before he had walked far, he sensed a familiar presence—the same person who had followed him earlier in the morning.

Qingming didn't feign ignorance. Instead, he followed this sensation and looked toward a high spot to his right.

There, he saw a ninja clad in a black cloak and wearing a mask.

The two locked eyes without saying a word.

Qingming, with a cold expression, stared unblinkingly at the opponent with his Sharingan, the three tomoe spinning silently.

As time ticked by, passersby began to notice Qingming's odd behavior, but he remained unmoved, continuing to glare at the Root ninja.

In the end, the masked ninja chose to retreat, vanishing from Qingming's view to avoid exposure.

Only then did Qingming avert his gaze, his expression indifferent.

Without a second thought, he proceeded toward the village's bustling streets.

About half an hour later, having finished dinner, Qingming returned to his residence.

Wasting no time, he immediately began training the Multi Shadow Clone Jutsu.

In an instant, the house and yard were filled with his shadow clones.

Fortunately, the home left to him by his late parents was somewhat isolated, so Qingming didn't have to worry about disturbing anyone.

After about an hour of training, Qingming completed the day's planned repetitions.

Checking the skill panel, he confirmed that the increase in proficiency matched his expectations. With a casual glance toward a certain spot outside the yard, he walked into his training room.

Next on the agenda was continuing to hone the Mystical Palm Technique and Heart Reflection Technique, strengthening his physical body and advancing his Sharingan's evolution.

Time passed.

Near midnight, Qingming finally completed his daily training regimen.

By now, his body and mind were utterly exhausted.

He quickly washed up in the bathroom to refresh himself before heading to his bedroom to rest.

But before lying down, he deactivated the Guardian Seal on his brow and activated his Byakugan to observe the individuals monitoring him outside.

Unlike the night before, there were only two this time.

It seemed that Danzo had realized he wouldn't act rashly here and had thus reduced the number of watchers.

Qingming paid it no mind.

Whether there were many or few, it didn't affect his sleep.

He wouldn't make a move here, and Danzo wouldn't either.

In their past encounters, Qingming had proven his strength.

Given this, Danzo wouldn't act without absolute certainty of success.

As for Qingming, he was unconcerned about assassination attempts during sleep.

His years of battlefield experience had trained him to awaken instantly at the slightest threat.

And once he activated Heavenly Sovereign, no enemy technique could affect him.

So, Qingming went to sleep with no concerns.

The next morning.

Qingming woke with the first light of dawn.

After sensing his surroundings and confirming that the two watchers hadn't moved all night, he chuckled inwardly.

"As expected of Root ninjas," he mused. Their unwavering dedication to their mission was truly unmatched.

Stretching briefly, Qingming got out of bed and went to the bathroom to wash up.

In just a few minutes, he was ready for the day.

Grabbing his ninja tools pouch, he left the house, planning to grab breakfast.

But before he could get far, someone called out to him.

"Qingming, wait a moment!"

Turning, Qingming saw a familiar face—though not someone particularly close.

It was Uchiha Chirito, the jonin who had delivered his compensation when he first arrived in this world.

Chirito had been fortunate to survive the recent ninja war.

"Chirito?" Qingming asked, his tone neutral. "What's the matter?"

Although Chirito was older by over a decade, the two were of the same clan.

Before Qingming became a jonin, he had shown respect to his senior.

But now that he too held the jonin rank, his attitude had naturally shifted to a more equal footing.

Chirito noticed the subtle change in Qingming's demeanor but didn't seem to mind.

"Where were you yesterday?" Chirito asked.

"Where I was?" Qingming frowned briefly but then relaxed. "I went outside the village to train. Why?"

He wasn't worried about revealing his location. His reputation as a training enthusiast was well-known, so there was no need for secrecy.

Chirito nodded, seemingly unsurprised.

"I see," he replied. "Yesterday, the clan held a meeting about the Hokage election. They wanted to gather everyone's opinions."

"Oh? And what's the clan's stance?" Qingming asked directly.

"Most have agreed to support Minato Namikaze," Chirito explained. "The clan has already decided to back him fully in the Fourth Hokage election."

Qingming nodded. "I have no objections."

"Good. I'll relay your response to the clan leader," Chirito said with a nod.

After a few more pleasantries, the two parted ways.

From the interaction, Qingming deduced that Chirito had likely been waiting here specifically for him, perhaps even to gauge his thoughts.

The man's tone and demeanor when mentioning Minato made it clear that he personally supported him.

If Qingming had disagreed, it wouldn't have been surprising if Chirito had tried to persuade him.

"Minato truly has broad support," Qingming mused as he walked away.

Even within the Uchiha clan, many supported Minato—whether out of genuine admiration or for ulterior motives didn't matter. It was a testament to his appeal.

In the sky above.

With his Byakugan active, Qingming observed the forest below.

Unsurprisingly, he spotted several figures concealed among the trees—Root ninjas trailing him.

Seeing this, Qingming smirked.

"They've taken the bait."

With that, he sped up, flying swiftly toward the training spot he had used the day before.

Soon, the Root ninjas lost track of him.

Despite knowing they were following his lead, Qingming didn't deliberately slow down or leave clues.

Anything too obvious might arouse Danzo's suspicion.

As the saying goes, the harder something is to obtain, the more desirable it becomes.

Only by making them work for it would they let their guard down once they achieved their goal.

And in the meantime, all Qingming needed to do was play his part as an arrogant young ninja—aware of the threat but confident in his flight advantage, dismissive of his pursuers.
