In an instant, Groudon's Precipice Blades and Kyogre's Origin Pulse fired simultaneously toward Rayquaza.
Facing the sudden assault from the two ancient rivals, Rayquaza showed no panic. It seemed to have expected that its two "old friends" would one day turn on the meddlesome peacemaker that so often interfered in their clashes.
As soon as the two super-legendary Pokémon attacked, Rayquaza's body erupted with a blinding emerald glow. Its entire form was instantly enveloped by a layer of pure Flying-type energy.
Then, with an elegant twist of its long body, Rayquaza narrowly evaded the molten greatsword formed by Groudon's Precipice Blades and soared straight toward the barrage of blue light spheres that made up Kyogre's Origin Pulse.
Before the eyes of the world, Rayquaza demonstrated its unmatched evasion prowess. Its speed was blinding, its flight skills supreme. Its control over its own body was so refined that it could alter its movement at will with the slightest muscular adjustment.
It was like a martial artist walking through rain without a single drop touching his robe—so fluid and untouchable that not even Kyogre's barrage could harm it. In a flash, Rayquaza broke through the assault unscathed and, under Kyogre's horrified gaze, dove in a V-shaped trajectory and struck directly at Kyogre's abdomen — a critical hit.
A deafening BOOM! echoed through the battlefield.
With a pained roar, Kyogre was sent flying backward, tumbling helplessly before crashing into the ground belly-up, head-first, landing in a most undignified heap.
Even after downing Kyogre with a single blow, Rayquaza wasn't satisfied. With a fierce roar, it spun around and lashed out with its tail — a powerful combination of Iron Tail and Dragon Tail aimed straight at Kyogre's stomach.
The massive impact slammed into Kyogre's belly, snuffing out any thought of retaliation. It flopped weakly, then chose to feign defeat entirely, lying motionless to avoid provoking Rayquaza further.
Rayquaza then turned its sharp gaze toward Groudon, who now looked on with a rare glimmer of fear.
In the next instant, a colossal draconic shockwave erupted from Rayquaza's jaws — Dragon Pulse.
Groudon wanted to dodge, but it was too slow. Having only recently awakened, its body was still stiff and uncoordinated. It could only counter by unleashing a massive Flamethrower from its mouth.
Unfortunately for Groudon, Rayquaza's Dragon Pulse was a same-type move, while without the effects of Drought, Groudon's flames were weakened. The two attacks collided — and Rayquaza's energy easily overwhelmed Groudon's fire, striking its body head-on.
But Rayquaza wasn't done yet. After firing Dragon Pulse, its body once again shone with dazzling Flying-type power as it transformed into a green comet, streaking straight toward Groudon.
"Roooaaaar!!"
Seeing Rayquaza charging mercilessly at him, determined to flatten him just like Kyogre, Groudon's eyes flashed with fury. With a thunderous roar, it slammed its right hand into the earth, summoning Precipice Blades once more.
Instantly, pillars of molten rock burst from the ground, all aimed directly at Rayquaza.
But if Rayquaza could weave through Kyogre's dense Origin Pulse, how could these scattered magma eruptions possibly touch it?
In the next moment, under Groudon's helpless gaze, Rayquaza once again nimbly dodged the attack, then dove in close and struck Groudon squarely on the jaw with another Dragon Ascent — far too fast to block.
Groudon's massive frame lifted off the ground, arched backward, and crashed heavily against the slopes of Mt. Chimney, leaving a deep crater in the rock.
Rayquaza truly lived up to its reputation as Hoenn's mightiest super-legendary Pokémon. In mere tens of seconds, it had subdued both Groudon and Kyogre — the two legends of land and sea — leaving them sprawled on the ground.
"Hissss!"
At that moment, everyone watching — Sato included — gasped in awe.
Whether in person or through broadcasts, those who witnessed the clash of these titans were stunned speechless by Rayquaza's terrifying power.
"As expected of a super-legendary Pokémon that has lived countless ages and never fallen into deep slumber… its strength is on another level entirely compared to Groudon and Kyogre, who have only just awakened. To take on both and win so easily… unbelievable."
Hovering at the edge of the battlefield atop Crobat, Sato watched as Rayquaza effortlessly pummeled the two legends like unruly children. His heart trembled at its overwhelming might.
Elsewhere, Dragon-type Elite Four, Drake and Champion Steven had already regrouped with the other three Hoenn Elite Fours aboard a League airship.
Even these top-tier Trainers — the very peak of the human pyramid — felt their insignificance in the face of such divine power.
When Groudon and Kyogre first began to stir, Steven, Drake, and the Elite Four had been ready to intervene personally. Rayquaza's timely appearance, however, had spared them from what could have been a suicidal battle.
In fact, the airship they rode carried nearly half of Hoenn's Elite-Four level Trainers — all prepared to sacrifice themselves to stop the two super-legendary Pokémon from clashing.
Had Groudon and Kyogre truly fought without restraint, the entire Hoenn region might have been shattered beyond repair. Countless lives would have been lost.
At that critical moment, the Pokémon League once again proved its worth — it did not fail the people of Hoenn.
After subduing both Kyogre and Groudon, Rayquaza roared triumphantly into the sky. The two fallen Pokémon stopped pretending and stirred, flipped over, and exchanged a brief, heavy glance — first at each other, then at the green dragon hovering above.
Finally, neither dared to challenge it further. Choosing wisdom over pride, they turned away — Groudon lumbered back toward Mt. Chimney's volcanic crater, and Kyogre glided away toward the sea.
Seeing its "old friends" finally retreat, Rayquaza gave a few more mighty roars before soaring off into the heavens. Within seconds, it had vanished into the night sky.
And with that, the great catastrophe was averted — peace returned once again to the Hoenn region.
"This time, I truly owe Rayquaza a debt beyond measure," Sato thought solemnly. "From now on, I must act with greater care. Mistakes like this can never happen again."
"The power of legendary Pokémon is indeed tempting… but pursuing it without regard for the consequences — that is a line that must never be crossed."
The heavy weight that had long pressed upon Sato's heart finally lifted. As relief and reflection filled him, he reminded himself once more to always think twice before acting.
Then, while everyone else was still sighing in gratitude that the calamity had passed, Sato quietly mounted his Crobat and disappeared into the night sky.
