The curtains moved as the cold air moved through them. Avery snuggled closer to Alex. She stirred in her sleep. Moving away from him. Her eyes shot open when a cold object pressed against her neck. Her eyes widened when she saw who it was. Veronica covered Avery's mouth with her other hand.
"Make a sound and youd be a corpse in the next minutes," Veronica whispered against her ear.
Veronica moved away slightly, but she still pressed the knife against Avery's neck.
"Move. Slowly and quietly."
Avery nudged and got out of bed without making a sound. Once her feet landed on the floor, Veronica swirled Avery. Her back against her front, and her hand caging with one hand. They left the room and walked down the hallway. The house was dead silent since everyone was asleep.
They halted in front of a candle stand, and Veronica pulled it, opening a secret door.
Her brows furrowed. They've been in this house for a week now, and she didn't know there was a secret door. Did Alex know about this?
Veronica threw Avery on the nearest chair. The room was covered with cobwebs, and a desk at the side of the room.
Avery scanned the room, looking for an exit.
"BOO!" Veronica laughed when Avery got startled.
"Y-your face?" Avery stammered with her words.
She had wondered why Veronica was wearing a veil. She didnt know her face was this hideous.
"What about it? Scary? You're not the first person to have this reaction, however, I bet this would be the last face you see." She said when her fist landed on Avery's face, making her unconscious
*******
Cold water was poured on her face. Avery coughed as she scanned her surroundings. This wasnt a dream. She tried to move but couldn't. She looked at her waist. She has been tied up.
"Veronica? Veronica, untie me right now. You won't get away with this."
Veronica flicked her tongue, and she got out of the dark. She stared down at Avery and crossed her arms.
" I already got away with this, babe. Alex doesn't believe I'm alive. Poor you. I bet even your friends don't believe it."
Veronica moved closer to her.
" By the way, I have a surprise for you."
Avery knitted her brows. Veronica moved away from her and walked towards the desk. She turned her back on Avery as she wore the mask.
"How do I look? Do I look beautiful? I'm Mrs Gibson now."
Avery was too stunned to speak. It felt like she was staring at herself. How and where did she get a mask like this?
"W-What is this, Veronica?"
"Did you go deaf? I said I was the new Mrs Gibson. I'm you, Avery."
"Alex, he won't believe you"
"How dare you? Ive been practising for years. Just to impersonate you. You should congratulate me for my hard work. Listen to my voice." She said with a smile on her face.
"Alexander Gibson is my husband."
Avery bit back the tears that threatened to come. She sounded just like her. If Alex didn't believe Veronica was alive, would he even believe that Veronica wasn't her?
