He couldn't wrap his head around the idea that Zanyi was from Earth, too. That he was a summoned hero, just like William.
William knew others from Earth'd been called to that world as heroes before. But Zanyi—being one of them—was brand new information, something he'd never even suspected.
And that alone made the situation even more tense. If Zanyi were really a hero, he would also have special abilities granted by the system.
That made everything a hell of a lot harder.
"You're messing with me, right?" William said. "Before us, the last batch of heroes was summoned, what, two hundred years ago? Maybe even longer?"
Whenever a catastrophe threatened the world, heroes were summoned to help fight back. But that kind of thing didn't happen every other week.
"Well, before you guys were summoned, I was. Maybe fifteen years before? Elric did a test run to see if he could summon heroes, and I was called for that experiment."
