"I have a classmate whose father is the principal of City First Middle School. He sought my opinion, and if I wanted to go, he could help me, but I'd rather not owe favors to people," Wang Qiayu explained when he saw Li Xiaoyan looking puzzled.
"Is the only reason Teacher Wang refused because he couldn't leave the students at Shangguan Town Middle School?" Li Xiaoyan asked.
"That's just one aspect. My sisters are married far away, and my younger sister got married just two years ago. My parents are not in great health, and although Grandpa is still robust, he's already in his eighties. If I'm far from home, I would be worried."
Li Xiaoyan's view of Wang Qiayu subtly changed; a man at his age, staying in a small town out of filial duty, was truly rare.
"No wonder Teacher Wang hasn't married yet," Xiao Xian couldn't help but shake her head. "With what you're saying, I guess ordinary girls wouldn't dare marry here; the burden is too heavy."
