Synopsis
In a world ruled by gods, humanity lives beneath divine protection. Their churches govern kingdoms, their priests perform miracles, and their authority reaches into every part of mortal life. The gods are worshipped not because they are distant legends, but because they are real—and their power is undeniable. Born as the son of a Count in one of the world’s greatest cities, Adrian grows up surrounded by nobles, scholars, priests, and traditions shaped by the gods. He respects them like everyone else. But he is curious. When he begins studying the miracles performed by the churches, he discovers that even divine power follows rules. And if those rules can be understood, perhaps they can be reproduced. What begins as innocent curiosity slowly becomes something far more dangerous: the discovery of a path to supernatural power that does not depend on the gods. As Adrian’s understanding grows, so does the threat he represents. The gods have ruled the world since its beginning. They will not remain silent when a human begins to uncover the secrets of their power.

Chapter 1: The First Observation

The village was quiet as Astraeus walked through the misty forest at dawn. The golden light of the rising sun filtered through the trees, casting long shadows across the dew-laden ground. He had come here many times before, but today was different. Today, he had a purpose.

He crouched down beside a large boulder, pulling out a small notebook and a bundle of tools. As a child, he had been fascinated by the Kalephor, a creature of myth—part-bird, part-serpent. It was a rare sight, a creature that could glide through the air with grace and serpentine elegance. Most villagers considered it an omen or a divine messenger, but Astraeus thought differently. He didn't believe in omens. He believed in patterns.

The Kalephor appeared, just as it always did at this hour, coiling its serpent body around a tree. Its golden feathers gleamed in the sunlight, and its scales shimmered like liquid silver. Astraeus watched it closely, noting its movements, the way the wind interacted with its wings, the faint electrical hum that seemed to radiate from its body.

He scribbled furiously in his notebook, making calculations.

"The power to fly doesn't come from magic," he muttered to himself. "It's an interaction of forces—wind, muscle, structure. I just need to figure out the formula."

A voice interrupted his thoughts.

"Astraeus!" called an old woman from behind him. She was the village elder, a keeper of ancient lore.

Astraeus didn't turn around. "I'm busy, Lira."

"Busy with your strange theories again?" Lira asked, her tone laced with both concern and amusement. "The Kalephor is no mere bird, Astraeus. It is a divine creature."

"That's what they say," Astraeus replied, "but I'm sure there's more to it than just divine magic. There are patterns to everything."

Lira sighed, shaking her head, but she said nothing more. She knew better than to argue with Astraeus when he was focused on something.
