Chapter 331 - Chapter 331 - Preparing for the Meeting of the Northern Kings 01.

[Chapter Size: 2400 Words.]

Third Person POV

Ellander.

...

After returning to the Temple of Melitele, Yennefer, Triss and Tissaia were working together to make the object that would be used by Ciri, with Tissaia agreeing to keep Ciri's pregnancy a secret.

Meanwhile, Madara left the temple and went with Vesemir and Geralt to Kaer Morhen.

The entire castle was destroyed, with small flames still spreading through the place. Vesemir seemed shaken by it; to him it was a nightmare. Madara quickly began to control the flames while performing some wood jutsus to smother and extinguish the fire.

"The castle is more damaged than when I helped rebuild it, but we can fix some parts right now," Madara said.

Vesemir merely sighed. "At least many of the stones withstood the attack. I'll need your help with the interior," he said, as he, Madara and Geralt entered the place.

"We're going to have a lot of work here," Geralt said, obviously. Looking at the courtyard, all the training dummies were either destroyed or buried under the castle's own blocks that had fallen on top of them.

They entered the main hall. There were several openings, and everything inside was destroyed. Madara quickly began forming several hand seals while using the Earth Element to cover the holes in the walls and ceiling.

Then he took all the wood that had burned and been destroyed, transforming it into new wood, creating a replica of what the castle used to be internally. It was easy to do when one possessed the Wood Element.

The problem was the ingredients, books and artifacts that had been inside and were destroyed. But Madara had a copy of each of the books. He himself removed them from the scroll, placing a huge mountain of books in the open space after clearing the area.

Vesemir, seeing this, could not help but sigh. "I admit I was angry the first time I saw that you were copying our books, but I should have thanked you back then," he admitted.

"We didn't know the dragons would act that way either," Geralt said. It was a situation in which he could do nothing but watch. He was good at investigating and dealing with conventional monsters, but dragons and demons were far beyond what a witcher could face. All he could do was be a spectator amid that madness.

"I'll inform the others about the situation as well. Lambert is in Lyria, and Eskel is in the North. I found him yesterday too with one of my clones, in one of the cities that were being attacked, but I didn't speak to him," Madara said.

Vesemir nodded. Madara did not stop searching for something specific. "Where is the machine I brought from Toussaint?" he asked.

"It's in the basement," Vesemir said.

"Then it may not have been damaged." Madara went down there. The old witchers' stronghold was dusty with embers, but he found the machine. It was still intact, despite the dust created by the embers.

"I think we should start working on it. Let me know when you're ready," Geralt said in a very serious tone.

Vesemir frowned. "We don't know if this can work. We need to run more tests."

"We're falling behind, Vesemir," Geralt insisted.

Even Madara looked at him, surprised. He knew the machine would work, but he did not expect Geralt to be reckless enough to want to do it as soon as possible. Perhaps it was because he was feeling a little useless in the face of the recent events. The desire to become stronger was making him set caution aside.

They continued working in Kaer Morhen the entire time.

Meanwhile, the three older sorceresses had strange expressions on their faces, looking at what was before them and at the youngest girl.

"What is it?" Ciri asked, as they set the papers aside and stared at the runes they had managed to produce.

"How did you get to this so quickly?" Triss murmured, almost in disbelief. Even the great mage Tissaia was speechless.

The three had been discussing what the best combination of ancient runes would be to try to translate them into an illusion spell that would remain constantly active. The enchantment would be assembled with Ciri's own magic, but sustained by the energy of the necklace. What they did not expect was to be interrupted in the middle of the process, when Ciri simply handed them a paper with the runes completed and with the best possible combination.

"I just imagined this was it, right?" Triss looked at Tissaia, and the two shared a surprised glance. Yennefer remained silent for a second before bursting into laughter.

"Hahahaha! Ah, I forgot to mention. I have been very surprised by this girl ever since I started teaching her. I've been training Ciri for over a year, and I can see her leaving us all behind; she will be the most powerful mage this continent has ever seen." Yennefer said with a proud smile.

She then continued. "We only stopped now because of the pregnancy, so as not to push her too hard. But she still studies some magical arts that do not require physical effort. Besides, Ciri has proven to be a specialist in this… and she can also see when something will go wrong or not with her clairvoyance... She has abilities that simply break the effort of any task if she wants to," Yennefer said with a smile.

The two witches looked at Ciri as if she had a second head.

"Is she really that powerful? And seeing the future? Can she really see the possibilities that turn out right?" Tissaia asked in shock; even she, a renowned mage with almost no equal, was speechless.

"Of course. Sometimes it's annoying, but it usually works." Ciri shrugged.

"Nenneke asks her to predict the weather for the next ten days, and the high priestess announces it as if it were the goddess herself informing it. Her correct predictions have become very popular in the last moons; they help a lot with the harvest outside the walls and with the city's duties," Yennefer commented with slight amusement.

"I have also already foreseen that my son will be born in twelve days. Just don't tell Madara anything, I want it to be a surprise," Ciri said with a mischievous smile.

"That brat never changes," Yennefer murmured.

Ciri simply stuck her tongue out at her. "Who's a brat? I am a complete woman. A wife, a mother and a queen," she said, before receiving a light tap on the forehead from the black-haired, violet-eyed witch herself.

"Don't get ahead of yourself. You still have a lot to learn. You're still a nineteen-year-old girl."

Ciri huffed. She was more than that, but she did not insist.

Meanwhile, Yennefer began working on the device. Triss and Tissaia, still somewhat surprised by the girl's abilities — after all, those runes were worthy of the work of a powerful sorcerer who would normally take days and even weeks; that was why three sorceresses of that caliber were together to finish it as quickly as possible, they just did not expect it to take only a few minutes, done by someone who did not even have a third of the lifespan of the youngest among the sorceresses there — turned their attention to the necklace, helping Yennefer finish it.

In the end, the runes would not be a necklace itself, but rather a brooch, which she would place on the necklace Madara had given her, with the diamond stone that had belonged to her grandmother.

Ciri herself would use her own magic to power it. With that, it would not be a problem to keep the illusion active.

At the same time, the continent was still trying to understand what had happened the previous night. Dragons had attacked cities, killed people, and then the same people who killed the dragons simply took all the bodies of the dead winged reptiles. Some claimed they saw them disappear; others said they had seen the legendary Madara Uchiha in the midst of the chaos fighting the dragons with the blue giants.

Madara's plans were renewed that morning. He had received all the memories of the turmoil happening in each of the courts across the continent, even those kingdoms that had not been attacked by the dragons, while his own clones made copies of themselves, sending information to the original and continuing to observe discreetly.

In Redania, Philippa had just stepped through a portal, with someone right behind her. It was none other than Dijkstra, the kingdom's head of intelligence. The king had sent for him in Novigrad, where he had been operating in the past weeks at the crown's own request.

"Dijkstra," the king said upon seeing the spy approach the throne.

"Your Majesty."

He knelt before the king. This was Vizimir II, the Just. While the king sat on the throne observing his intelligence agent, the queen was not present, but his son, Radovid, watched the scene in silence, with an attentive and astute look.

"As you know, Kovir, Kaedwen and even some other kingdoms were attacked by dragons. But Redania was not one of them, which is truly reassuring. I summoned you because I need information about Madara Uchiha, who was holding back the dragons yesterday, according to reports from spies and sorcerers," the king said.

"Yes, I am aware," Dijkstra replied. "And I know more; the dragons were controlled by an even more powerful creature. If Your Majesty wishes, I can explain further."

"A more powerful creature? Something that can control dragons? What are you talking about?" Vizimir raised his voice.

Everyone at court looked at the head of intelligence, surprised.

"You made contact with him?" the king narrowed his eyes. The atmosphere grew more tense.

To tell the truth, the control Madara had in Novigrad had not gone unnoticed. The king himself already knew that the Uchiha had been traveling through his kingdom some time ago. Dijkstra had confirmed that he had met him in Novigrad, but he never mentioned the conversation they had — much less the second meeting, when Madara laid his cards on the table about Redania's future and about the temperament of young Radovid, who was already of age to rule and, if he took the throne, would earn a certain nickname.

Radovid, the Cruel.

Since then, Dijkstra could not look at the prince the same way. He feared the future, for the boy already showed tendencies influenced by the ideologies of the Church of the Eternal Fire. Even though he did not yet hold absolute power, he already showed an inclination to discriminate against non-humans.

A reign of terror could still be born from him.

He also did not seem to like his father's ideas very much, always considering them outdated. The spy loved Redania more than the person wearing the crown.

"What do you mean he is in Novigrad?" Radovid did not hesitate to raise his voice, breaking the silence as everyone turned their attention to him.

"Madara Uchiha is controlling the city, father. That is something we should not allow," the boy exclaimed in an authoritative tone.

"Silence, Radovid," his father said, staring at his son sternly.

"But father, the changes in the city are far from ordinary," the young man insisted.

The king merely took a deep breath and turned his attention back to Dijkstra.

"Tell me. Is this how things stand in Novigrad?"

The alliance between Madara and Dijkstra was secret. At the same time that he needed to be discreet, he also could not hide information from the king. In the end, he decided to reveal what was necessary.

"Novigrad is indeed changing. But the city is prospering. Crime has decreased, and the population has been increasing day after day, with people seeing opportunities in the transformations within the walls. Where crime once ruled and not even the militia could control everything, there is now order. The captain of the guard has been doing a good job since he received authorization from Your Majesty."

"And the priests dying? The Grand Hierarch says the city is being ruled by evil, by that monster!" Radovid insisted.

But his father interrupted him. "Even if that is true, can we do anything about it?" the king asked Dijkstra directly.

Clearly, no king liked the idea of having an important city controlled by a foreigner. But he also could not act rashly — not when it involved someone capable of destroying dragons in a single night, summoning blue giants that had appeared before and had been devastating, as if a god himself had descended into the mortal world.

"There is no concrete evidence that Madara is behind these deaths. And it is also hard to believe that he is interested only in Novigrad. The city does not seem to be of great use to someone like him."

That line of thought sounded logical. No one truly understood why Madara would be interfering in Novigrad and dealing with the fanaticism of the Church of the Eternal Fire. What they did not know was that it was an investment for the future — before that region became a focus of chaos and spread across the continent.

Madara and Ciri, with the immense power each possessed, would certainly become their targets sooner or later.

"Very well, try to find some proof that Madara Uchiha is truly connected to this. But, in the meantime, we can do nothing," the king said.

Dijkstra nodded, feeling Philippa's gaze piercing his back. She had remained there the entire time, ever since she had closed the portal. There was interest in her expression — and Dijkstra did not like that at all. In truth, he was even beginning to develop a certain prejudice against sorcerers and mages, after what he had discovered in Vilgefortz's secret laboratories.

"We need to invite him to a meeting among the kings. It is time to meet those who rightfully hold the throne of Cintra," the king said.

"Do not worry about that, Your Majesty. I already have an answer," Dijkstra said, surprising him.

"You do?" the king asked.

"Yes. Madara Uchiha came to me this morning. And he stated that he intends to attend the meeting. He only wishes to contact Yennefer of Vengerberg and Rector Tissaia to arrange the details with the other kings," Dijkstra replied.
