"Gotcha," I said, steeling myself. She took my hand, her small fingers lacing through mine.
"Oh," I remembered. "I got more peerage members."
"I'll meet them later," she said, and with a slight tug on my hand, the world dissolved.
We were teleported to a place that defied logic. It was a swirling, endless void of shifting colors, deep purples, vibrant reds, and impossible greens all blending and separating like oil on water. The sensation was bizarre; it felt like I was suspended in thick water, yet at the same time, I felt lighter than air. Ophis noticed my slight disorientation.
"You'll get used to that," she said.
"I don't mind it," I replied. "It's just… weird."
Suddenly, a roar so immense and powerful that it seemed to shake the very concept of space echoed through the void.
"ROOOOAAARRRR!"
I instinctively yelped and dove behind Ophis, using her tiny frame as a shield. It felt like the safest place in existence right now.
Ophis sighed. "He always does that. It's fine."
I hesitantly peeked out from behind her and took her hand again as we continued deeper into the abyss. Just then, my phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out to see a text from Sanji.
Sanji: Can't decide. Pork chops or fried chicken for dinner?
I quickly typed back.
Shiro: Pork chops.
Sanji: Thanks.
I looked at Ophis, my mind reeling from the sheer absurdity of it all. "Why is there Wi-Fi here?"
"He likes to watch anime," she answered as if it were the most normal thing in the world.
"…I think we might get along," I said, a little bit of my terror subsiding.
And then we saw him. Floating in the middle of the kaleidoscopic chaos was the legendary Apocalypse Dragon, Great Red. He was a creature of impossible scale, his crimson body so vast that mountains would be mere pebbles beside him. He was a living, breathing concept of power.
As we got closer, he began to shrink, his massive form condensing in on itself. He began to glow, a light so bright it forced me to look away. When the glow faded, a man stood where the colossal dragon had been.
He looked to be in his early twenties, with wild, crimson hair that defied gravity and eyes the color of molten gold. He wore a simple black t-shirt and dark jeans, looking more like a rock star than an ancient, all-powerful being.
We stopped about ten feet away. He stared at me with an unreadable expression. I stared back, my heart pounding in my chest, and did the only thing my panicked brain could think to do.
Observe.

My blood ran cold. The numbers were astronomical, so far beyond anything I had ever seen that they might as well have been infinity symbols. I leaned over to Ophis, who was watching my reaction with a smug look.
"Yep," I whispered, my voice trembling slightly. "I knew it. He's way stronger than you."
"Baka!" she huffed, lightly punching my arm.
A deep, rumbling chuckle echoed in the void. "It's alright, Ophis. The numbers don't lie."
I quickly straightened up, trying to compose myself. "Ah, yes. Forgive me. I'm Shiro."
He held up a hand, dismissing the formality. "Please, I know who you are. Come on out, Voltaris. Don't be shy."
I felt the familiar weight of my partner materializing on my shoulders, his spectral form radiating an ancient, familiar camaraderie.
"Oh, look," Voltaris snorted. "It's the tsundere loli-sister lover."
"Fuck you too," Great Red shot back without missing a beat.
"It's good to see you, old friend," Voltaris said, his voice softening with genuine warmth.
"It's good to see you too," Great Red replied, a real smile gracing his features.
"So, are you still stuck here, or…?"
"Nope," he said, stretching his arms over his head. "I just like it better here. It's quiet. But enough about me. Let's talk about your host." His molten-gold eyes fixed on me.
"Yo," I managed, giving a small, awkward wave.
"Why does he remind me so much of you?" Great Red asked Voltaris.
"We were told we were made for each other."
"I'm not gay," I added reflexively.
Great Red threw his head back and laughed. "Good lord, you two really were made for each other."
"Also," Voltaris continued, his tone turning serious. "I think you should know. This host here… even without me, he has the potential to become stronger than I was in my prime. I want you to know that."
Great Red's expression shifted, his amusement replaced by a keen, analytical interest. "Hmm, how about…"
"No," Voltaris and Ophis said in perfect unison.
"Just a little spar," Great Red pressed, a hopeful glint in his eyes.
"Hell no," they both shot back.
"I'm confused," I said, looking between the three cosmic beings.
"I just want to test your abilities so far," Great Red explained, his gaze locked on me.
"Hmm… okay," I agreed, a thrill of excitement overriding my terror.
"And now to start looking for another host," Voltaris sighed dramatically.
"Oh, haha," I deadpanned.
"Don't worry," Great Red said with a reassuring smile. "I won't even throw a punch."
"Is it bad that I feel insulted?" I asked.
"You know how strong he is," Voltaris reminded me.
"Sigh… yeah."
"I've been gone for a while," Ophis added, "so I wonder how much stronger you've gotten."
"Hmm," I mused, rolling my shoulders. "Should I start with my base form?"
"Oh, do it," Voltaris urged. "It'll surprise him. Knowing the loli dragon over there, she probably didn't tell him everything."
"Hey!" Ophis pouted.
"Okay then." A fiery aura exploded around me, the familiar heat a comforting presence in the chaotic void. "You want me to hit you, right?"
"Yes," Great Red confirmed, a smirk playing on his lips as he stood perfectly still.
"Okay."
I charged. I moved faster than I ever had, closing the distance in an instant.
"FIRE DRAGON IRON FIST!"
My flame-wreathed fist slammed into his chest. It felt like punching a mountain made of diamonds. He didn't even flinch, but I saw a flicker of genuine surprise in his eyes. I used the impact to launch myself into the air above him.
"FIRE DRAGON BRILLIANT FLAME!"
I unleashed a concentrated fireball that engulfed him completely. I landed lightly, dropping into a fighting stance as the dust of my attack swirled around him. The moment it started to settle, I unleashed my next move.
"FIRE DRAGON SACRED ART… FLAME LOTUS EXPLODING FLAME BLADES!"
My ultimate fire technique slammed into his position in a series of devastating explosions. As the last of the smoke cleared, he was still standing there, completely unharmed, with that same infuriating smirk. I switched tactics. The fire died down, replaced by a crackling, violent yellow aura. Ophis looked a bit confused by the sudden change in my energy.
I raised my right arm, gathering the storm. "LIGHTNING DRAGON RAGING BOLT!"
The lightning trident shot forth and struck him dead-on. I didn't wait for the result. I charged through the lingering electrical discharge, my fist a hammer of pure thunder.
"LIGHTNING DRAGON DEMOLITION FIST!"
