"Maybe we should just give it up." Selene's dejected-sounding voice sliced through the sounds of paper ruffling, box moving, and deep breaths.
Isolde and Blaize stopped immediately. They were on opposite ends, but they exchanged looks with one another before their eyes landed on Selene, who was in the center, slumped on a chair with a big sign of resignation clearly showing on her face.
Isolde and Blaize had both been seated on the other sides, going through scrolls and returning them, but they both made their way to meet up with Selene.
"Hey," Isolde said gently as she leaned against Selene's chair.
Selene was forced to straighten herself so that she now sat upright, staring at the worried eyes of her friends.
"Look at Blaize's hourglass," Selene spoke, and they glanced at Blaize's pendant hanging around her neck.
