He saw that Lucas had fainted and rushed over to him, realizing he had a high fever.
A few hours later...
Lucas woke up to find himself in his bed. He looked around and saw Alex was still in his house. Alex was sitting on a chair at the side of the bed, asleep. Lucas wanted to see if he was actually awake; he leaned in close and stared at Alex's closed eyes. Alex felt hot air on his face, causing Lucas to pull back quickly. Alex woke up to see him close to his face.
"Alex, you're awake," Lucas said.
"So, dude, you care to explain why you said you were okay but ended up fainting before I left?" Alex asked.
Lucas replied, "Fine, I admit I wasn't feeling well. So you heard it—now leave me on my own."
Alex started to leave, but before he did, he dropped a small leather bag. Lucas checked it and saw it was medicine. Alex then left. Once he was gone, Lucas kept thinking, What a weird guy, and took one of the tablets with the water that was on the table beside him. He swallowed it and went back to sleep.
The Next Day
Lucas went to school and sat at his normal table, quiet as always. One of the boys, Jacob, started calling him names. Lucas got angry and finally snapped; he got up to punch him in the face, but Alex mistakenly walked in between them on his way to his desk and got smacked in the face instead.
The sound was so loud that even the teacher looked at him in shock. Before Lucas could process anything, Alex was sent to the school nurse because his nose was bleeding. At lunch, Alex walked up to Lucas and spoke in a cold, deep voice.
"I want to talk to you," he said, slamming his hand on the desk and showing the veins in his hands. Before Lucas could say anything, Alex dragged him to the toilets, punched him, and shouted, "What is wrong with you? How could you hit me when all I did was help you last night?"
Lucas got angry that he was punched. He pulled Alex by the collar of his shirt and, with no expression, told him the whole story. Alex felt bad for punching him for no reason, but before he could say anything, Lucas had already left. Alex felt deeply sad, while Lucas felt frustrated and skipped classes to take a break from everything.
Alex chased after him, but Lucas ran home. Alex stopped in front of the door, knocked, and told Lucas to stop being a coward. Lucas opened the door and shouted at him to just go.
"Great, it's raining," Alex said as the clouds opened up. Lucas looked like he was about to shed tears. Alex told him, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to punch you, I just got angry."
Lucas calmed down, unable to believe he almost cried over someone. Alex smiled when Lucas stopped crying; he pulled him close and kissed him. Lucas was shocked but kissed him back.
"WTF did you do to me?" Lucas shouted afterward.
Alex whispered in his ear, "What did you do to my mind?"
Lucas dragged Alex into his house and got a towel to dry his hair. Lucas asked, "Why did we just kiss?"
"Yeah, I kind of fell in love with you, bitch, so don't act like you don't know what's happening," Alex said.
Lucas smirked, stopped drying Alex's hair, and tilted his face up. Lucas looked down at Alex, his hair dripping onto Alex's chest. "So, about that... what are we now? How about you become my boyfriend?"
Alex said "Okay" hesitantly. Lucas held Alex by the waist.
"You're so clingy," Alex muttered.
"Yes, I am," Lucas replied. "Can I ask you a question?" Alex nodded. Lucas's face turned cold as he said, "I'm a bit possessive. Not a bit—a lot. So, are you okay with it? Not like I care."
Alex looked flustered by his words. Lucas smiled and went to cuddle him. Alex wrapped a blanket around them. "You have a soft side," Alex teased. He pulled Lucas in, and they both fell asleep together.
In the morning, Lucas woke up slowly and reached his hand out for Alex, but he wasn't there. He quickly got up and went downstairs to look for him. He saw a note on the table: I went to school. I made food for you; it's on the kitchen table. Lucas smiled.
