The great gate stopped falling a few hundred meters above the city.
Jin watched it slow and settle until it hung there over the center of Seoul, perfectly still, its bottom edge floating just above the tops of the tallest towers. It was so big it didn't look real. It looked like someone had cut a door out of the sky and left it open. The light pouring out of it washed over everything in a pale gold, and the hum had dropped down to something low and steady that Jin could feel through the soles of his boots.
Nothing had come out of it yet.
He opened his map. The whole thing had changed. The little gates were gone, and in the center of his territory sat a single mark, much bigger than any of the others had been, burning gold. He touched it.
