The rain got heavier with every step.
It started as a patter and became a steady fall, and then it was pouring, a grey wall of water coming down out of the dark clouds so thick that Jin could barely see the stairs in front of him. It ran down the steps in sheets. It filled the grooves in the stone and poured down them like gutters. It soaked through his clothes in seconds and kept going, cold all the way to the bone.
"Landing!" Yujin called from up ahead. "There's a landing!"
They reached it a minute later. It was the widest one yet, a flat shelf of stone jutting out over the drop with a broken lantern at one end and nothing at the other but a sheer edge and the dark clouds below. Rain hammered down on it so hard it bounced back up off the stone.
Jinhyuk threw up a dome before anyone told him to.
