"I don't know," Edmund replied quickly. "That's why, explain it to me."
Leofric stopped pacing and stared at Edmund for a moment. The annoyed expression on his face slowly disappeared, and he let out a long sigh.
"Fine. You want an explanation? I'll give you one," Leofric said. "But first, you need to understand something. I was never supposed to interfere with your lives."
"I was supposed to watch you. That was all," Leofric continued. "I made that deal because I was bored and thought watching a man willingly suffer through a hundred lives for the woman he loved would be interesting. I wasn't supposed to save you, help you, warn you, or change anything that was meant to happen."
Primrose's expression changed slightly. "Then why did you?"
Leofric looked at Edmund and sighed. "Because watching someone suffer is much easier when you've only watched him once or twice, but after dozens of lives, it stopped being entertaining."
Edmund remained silent as he listened to Leofric.
