"I'm insulting you?!"
Hurt flashed in both Thomas Fisher's eyes and heart; the fact that Alice Turner could say something like that to him was truly beyond anything he'd imagined.
He thought that even if she didn't love him that much anymore, she didn't have to say that to him. Didn't she understand how much those words hurt him?
He knew very well that she was neither stupid nor emotionally dull.
Alice Turner turned her head to the side, trying her best not to look directly at Thomas. When she didn't see him, her heart didn't feel quite so bad. "You know perfectly well that I'm a married woman, yet you still do this kind of thing to me. If that's not insulting me, then what is it?"
As she questioned him, she had no idea whether he was feeling any better than she was.
"I'm loving you! Loving you! Loving you!" Thomas, driven nearly out of his mind by Alice, shouted "I love you" at her three times in a row.
