Chapter 35 - Blood of the Beast

Blood of the Beast

Gerard and Jian infiltrate the processing plant under the cover of darkness. The hunt for Drake has begun. But the system's demands grow more erratic and bloodthirsty, threatening to overwhelm Gerard's resolve. And as he dives deeper into the belly of the beast, his enemies are readying their own traps.

20:45 – The Processing Plant Perimeter – Silent Infiltration

The air was heavy and damp, carrying the scents of rust, oil, and decayed vegetation. The old processing plant loomed like a relic of the past, its twisted metal framework sagging under the weight of decades of neglect.

Moonlight flickered through gaps in the shattered roof, casting pale streaks of silver across the ground. Cracked asphalt crunched underfoot as Gerard and Jian crept along the perimeter, their steps soundless despite the debris-strewn earth.

Gerard's gaze was sharp, his Enhanced Combat Awareness picking out guard positions with brutal efficiency. Armed men patrolled the area, their movements mechanical and precise. Professional soldiers.

Jian licked his lips. "So, boss, you got a plan? Or we just going in like madmen?"

Gerard's eyes narrowed. "We kill them before they can raise the alarm. Clean. Efficient."

Jian chuckled. "You say 'clean' like it's not going to get messy."

Gerard's reply was ice-cold. "Messy or not, they all die."

They slipped through the darkness, their bodies blending with the shadows. Gerard's heartbeat was steady, his breathing slow and controlled.

The system had gone quiet since the last warning. But the silence was its own threat.

---

21:00 – The Plant's Interior – Hunting in the Dark

The interior of the plant was a labyrinth of rusted machinery and crumbling walls. The air was thick with the scent of oil and mildew, the faint drip of water echoing in the distance.

Flickering overhead lights bathed the rooms in a sickly yellow glow, creating shadows that danced like ghosts.

Gerard moved with precision, his steps calculated. The guards were numerous, but their predictability made them weak. He slid behind one of them, his blade flashing through the man's throat before his body hit the ground.

Jian followed with the glee of a predator, his knives carving a bloody path through anyone unfortunate enough to cross their path.

The screams were brief, cut off by steel and silence.

Gerard's system flashed to life.

[Ding! System Alert – Ruthlessness Required]

- Hesitation has been detected.

- Show no mercy. Leave nothing but death in your wake.

- Failure to comply may result in degradation of abilities.

- Blood is the only currency the system respects.

---

Gerard clenched his jaw, the cold fury of the system's demand settling over him like a shroud.

His hands tightened around the hilt of his blade.

"No survivors."

---

21:15 – The Control Room – The First Trap

The control room was a maze of ancient consoles and tangled wiring. Screens flickered erratically, their displays coated in layers of grime. The smell of old electronics and dust filled the air.

Gerard and Jian stepped over the corpses of the guards they had slaughtered, their bodies left scattered like broken dolls.

Jian grinned, wiping blood from his cheek. "This is almost too easy."

Gerard's gaze scanned the room, his Enhanced Combat Awareness noting every potential point of entry and exit. Something was wrong.

"It's a trap."

Jian raised an eyebrow. "A trap? Then why aren't we running?"

Gerard's smile was a twisted thing. "Because sometimes... the best way to beat a trap is to walk straight into it."

---

21:20 – The Killing Floor – Drake's Counterattack

The plant's old processing room stretched out before them like the belly of a beast. Heavy chains hung from the ceiling, their metal links clinking softly as the wind slipped through the cracks. Pools of stagnant water glistened on the cracked concrete floor.

The sound of footsteps echoed through the space, heavy and deliberate.

Drake's voice boomed over the loudspeakers, deep and mocking. "Well, well. The ghost himself has come to pay me a visit. I was beginning to think you'd keep running forever, Walker."

Gerard's voice was low, his gaze fixed on the darkness. "Running? I've been hunting you."

Drake's laugh was rich with cruelty. "And here I thought you were smarter than that. You walked right into my den."

A mechanical clank sounded above, and the room flooded with light.

Armed men surrounded the chamber, rifles aimed with deadly precision. Their faces were masked, eyes cold and calculating.

Jian's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Well, boss. You always did like a challenge."

Gerard's smile was lethal. "You have no idea."

---

[Ding! System Alert – Ruthlessness Required]

- Your enemies surround you. Show them your wrath.

- The system demands brutality. Relentlessness. Total destruction.

- Failure to comply will result in immediate punishment.

---

The words burned in Gerard's mind, his vision sharpening as the system's demands poured into him like poison. His muscles coiled like steel springs, his rage ignited.

The world slowed, his awareness expanding to encompass every enemy, every threat, every weak point.

"Kill them all."
