Chapter 408 - Chapter 408: Tom: Since when do Dark Lords have principles?

"And me...?"

"Mr Malfoy..." Miss Guinness said solemnly, "every Healer at St Mungo's will do everything in our power."

Even now, dragon pox remained one of the wizarding world's greatest medical challenges.

Many years ago, Gunhilda of Gorsemoor had developed a treatment for dragon pox.

Unfortunately, her treatment only managed the symptoms. It could not eradicate the disease itself.

As a result, even the finest Healers at St Mungo's could only promise to do their utmost.

The answer was clearly devastating to Mr Malfoy.

Miss Guinness knew this was not what he wanted to hear, but as a Healer, she could only answer honestly.

Not long afterwards, Toby returned with a large number of Healers.

They had already been informed that dragon pox had appeared at Malfoy Manor, so every one of them arrived fully protected and carrying ample medical supplies.

Wade and the others were ushered aside by the Healers and subjected to a thorough examination before finally being allowed to remain together.

At this point, Tom felt as though his nose was filled entirely with the smell of disinfectant.

Afterwards, Miss Guinness addressed them again.

"One more thing. I'll need to verify your recent movements. We need to determine where Mr Malfoy most likely contracted dragon pox. People don't simply catch dragon pox out of nowhere. You must have visited somewhere where the disease was already spreading. We need to prepare accordingly."

Dragon pox was a contagious disease that had originally been transmitted to wizards from the Peruvian Vipertooth.

It was somewhat similar to the Black Death that had once ravaged Europe, although the magical community's unique protective measures meant that dragon pox was not nearly as catastrophic.

After questioning the family, the Healers learned that the Malfoys had travelled together at the beginning of the summer holidays and had passed through the Romanian Dragon Sanctuary.

The Healers unanimously concluded that the source of the infection might lie in Romania.

Several of them immediately began writing to the authorities at the Romanian Dragon Sanctuary, as well as to the officials in every location the Malfoys had visited.

At the same time, several Healers were dispatched on an urgent long-term assignment.

Tom listened with growing suspicion.

Could it be...

Had Mr Malfoy actually contracted dragon pox on his own?

Was Wade really innocent?

But even so, Tom couldn't entirely dismiss Wade as a suspect.

Judging by Wade's past methods, if he had actually done it, nobody would ever be able to prove it.

At this point, Mr Malfoy had already been changed into a white hospital gown.

From a distance, he looked at Wade apologetically.

"I'm very sorry, Wade... my illness has ruined your visit today."

Miss Guinness couldn't help but glance at Wade in surprise as well.

Clearly, this was not something a host should be saying to a guest, especially not to his son's friend.

Anyone could see that Mr Malfoy cared deeply about Wade's opinion.

"Mr Malfoy, please don't say such things. Focus on recovering," Wade said, with a hint of hesitation.

Tom watched Wade's expression and raised an eyebrow slightly.

Something's off.

He's acting.

Sure enough, if even Tom could tell, then someone as perceptive as Mr Malfoy certainly wouldn't miss it.

"Wade... you... you really have no way of helping?" he asked, a trace of hope in his voice.

"I don't," Wade admitted. "But... perhaps someone else might."

He allowed a suitably troubled expression to appear on his face.

"Then... then you..." Mr Malfoy looked at Wade excitedly. He wanted to ask more, but forced himself to stop.

He knew that Wade must have a solution.

The problem was that obtaining that solution was probably very difficult for Wade.

Which meant that he couldn't be the one to ask directly.

So he looked at his son.

Abraxas had always been a quick-witted child and immediately understood his father's meaning.

"Wade... if you can save my father, the Malfoy family will do anything for you!"

Abraxas dropped to his knees before Wade and tightly gripped his hand.

"You... don't do that." Wade sighed. "I'll ask."

The troubled expression on Wade's face confused Mr Malfoy at first.

But after thinking about it carefully, he suddenly understood.

Of course!

The person Wade was referring to had to be someone from his family!

And because Wade had conflicts with his family, asking them for help would be extremely difficult for him.

Even the Healers of St Mungo's had no good solution for dragon pox, yet Wade's family did!

That alone demonstrated just how terrifying the family behind Wade truly was.

Mr Malfoy recalled the terrifying figure who had appeared in both his and his wife's dreams all those years ago.

At that moment, he became even more convinced.

He couldn't even imagine how powerful a wizard capable of invading two people's dreams simultaneously must be.

Suddenly, Mr Malfoy was overcome with a rather peculiar feeling.

It was almost as though he'd fallen ill at exactly the right time.

Otherwise, he would never have had the chance to witness so much of Wade's family's hidden power.

It's fine!

Wade agreed!

Which means my dragon pox can definitely be cured!

And I've also established a connection with Wade's family!

A good thing!

A wonderful thing!

In an instant, Mr Malfoy's mood improved again, and he obediently allowed the St Mungo's Healers to escort him away.

...

Wade maintained his troubled expression right up until they had boarded the carriage and departed.

The moment Wade's face returned to normal, Tom couldn't hold back any longer.

"You did it?"

Wade shot him a glare.

"Do you really think I have so few principles?"

"You're trying to become a Dark Lord. Since when do Dark Lords have principles?" Tom shot back with a shrug.

"I'm going to be a Dark Lord with vision and standards, not the sort of lunatic who uses any means necessary and does nothing but go mad!" Wade stared directly at Tom.

"Why are you looking at me like that? It's almost as though I'm supposed to be the crazy Dark Lord!" Tom protested.

"You'd better not be! You noseless freak!"

"I've always taken excellent care of my nose! I still don't understand why you keep bringing it up!"
