Because of its Light Metal Ability, Duraludon weighed only 20 kilograms.
Since it wasn't putting up much resistance, Silas simply grabbed it with one hand and dragged it into the desert.
A fake "true rookie" carries Cosmoem.
A real man from Viridian drags a Duraludon.
Duraludon stood on the sand with a bewildered expression.
"Roo!"
Suddenly, it let out a pained cry.
Turning around, it saw Blaziken silently resting a flaming claw on its back.
"Roo, roo?"
Duraludon grumbled unhappily.
What are you trying to do? Fight me again?
I'm telling you now, I can't beat you.
It tried to sound fierce, but the bluff lacked conviction.
It didn't take long before it understood why Blaziken had done it.
"Graaaah..."
A faint but irritable roar echoed from deep within the desert.
Duraludon's body immediately stiffened.
It knew that voice all too well.
So Blaziken had burned it on purpose to lure out the Garchomp living deeper inside.
Silas simply stood where he was and waited.
Judging from the cry, a Garchomp wouldn't take long to arrive.
The Mach Pokémon wasn't famous for nothing.
Although it couldn't reach the maximum speed of a Pidgeot around Mach 2, an adult Garchomp could still burst into flight at roughly the speed of sound for short periods.
Sure enough.
Moments later, the sound of air being torn apart rang through the sky.
A dark blue figure appeared before Silas and Blaziken.
"Graa."
The Garchomp glared irritably at Duraludon for entering its clan's territory.
Didn't this embarrassment of a dragon run away to live outside?
Where did it suddenly get so much courage?
Although Duraludon wasn't weak, the type matchup worked against it.
Among Pokémon of the same rank, Garchomp generally held the advantage and could suppress most Duraludon with ease.
Which meant there was one flaw in Duraludon's earlier story.
The Garchomp clan hadn't needed to rely on their Champion-level elder to drive it away.
Just a few capable Garchomp were more than enough to give it a thorough beating.
Naturally, Garchomp also noticed Silas and his two Pokémon.
However, true to its proud nature, it paid them little attention.
Even Blaziken's Elite-level aura failed to impress it.
It silently raised its scythe-like fin and pointed it directly at Duraludon.
Realizing things were going badly, Duraludon hurriedly hid behind Blaziken.
"Roo! Roo!"
It shouted at Silas.
Weren't you supposed to help me get my revenge?
I'm still injured!
Hearing that, Garchomp shifted its gaze toward the human.
Get revenge?
So you came here looking for a fight?
Its fierce eyes gleamed with anticipation.
As a Elite-level Pokémon, it figured Blaziken might at least provide a somewhat entertaining battle.
"Graa."
It lowered its body into a battle stance.
"Wait, wait, wait!"
Silas hurriedly stopped it.
The last thing he wanted was to start fighting a Garchomp the moment he arrived.
If he left a bad first impression, how was he supposed to convince them to let him take one of their offspring?
Without hesitation, he took out several tokens.
"I'm one of the Trainers participating in this year's Ascending Dragon Ceremony. I came here because I wanted to meet the strongest clan in the Dragon's Den."
The strongest clan?
The battle-ready Garchomp blinked.
Suddenly, this human seemed much more agreeable.
That's right.
They were the strongest clan in the Dragon's Den.
Those Dragonite and Salamence clans couldn't compare.
Garchomp slowly straightened up.
After sniffing the tokens, it immediately caught the familiar scent on them.
It knew exactly what the Ascending Dragon Ceremony was.
But...
"Graa."
With obvious disdain, it waved a fin at Silas.
Meet the clan?
You're obviously here to catch one of our young.
Do you think I'm stupid?
Although Garchomp found Silas likable enough, it still considered him too weak.
It pointed one fin toward the edge of the desert.
Out of respect for the Dragon Clan caretakers, it was willing to overlook his trespassing.
But taking one of their hatchlings?
Absolutely not.
Silas frowned almost imperceptibly.
He hadn't expected that he wouldn't even get to see a single Gible.
No wonder the Ascending Dragon Ceremony was only held once every three years, yet so few people managed to obtain a pseudo-legendary from the Dragon's Den.
Most Trainers left with non-Dragon Pokémon that merely possessed dragon bloodlines.
Only a handful managed to obtain ordinary Dragon-types.
For example, Altaria, Druddigon, or Flygon.
"Graa."
Seeing Silas lost in thought, Garchomp impatiently urged him again.
Silas sighed.
Looks like he'd have to try another approach.
Slowly, he reached into the backpack on his back.
A pale blue scale appeared in his hand.
An overwhelming Dragon-type aura instantly spread throughout the surrounding area.
It was the Dragon Scale he had found at Dragon Gate Falls beneath Mt. Mortar.
Together with it, he had also obtained a Dragon Fang.
Since he couldn't enter directly, he would negotiate with temptation instead.
Even a fully grown Garchomp could benefit from a Dragon Scale.
As a scale shed only by exceptionally powerful Dragon-type Pokémon, a Dragon Scale was far more valuable than simply evolving Seadra into Kingdra.
Or rather transforming a Pokémon with dragon blood into a true Dragon-type was an incredibly difficult feat.
Even Charizard only gained the Dragon type after Mega Evolving into Mega Charizard X.
"I'll give this to you. In return, take me inside. After all, whether I can bring a Gible with me in the end still depends on getting your clan leader's approval, doesn't it?"
Silas said to the Garchomp, whose eyes were completely fixed on the Dragon Scale.
"Of course, if things don't work out here, I'll have to trouble you to take me to the other two Garchomp clans as well."
At the first half of Silas's proposal, Garchomp nodded in agreement.
But after hearing the second half, it hesitated again.
Bringing a harmless human into its own clan wasn't a big deal. They were all family, after all.
The other clans, however, were a different story.
Although the three clans got along reasonably well because they were the same species, their relationship only went as far as mutual respect.
Taking a human into another clan's territory would be troublesome.
Yet the aura radiating from the Dragon Scale was incredibly tempting.
After hesitating for quite some time, Garchomp finally gave a reluctant nod.
Silas let out a long sigh of relief.
The Dragon Fang was absolutely out of the question. Its value and usefulness far exceeded that of the Dragon Scale.
If this negotiation failed, his only option would have been to try his luck with the other pseudo-legendary clans.
Smiling, Silas handed over the Dragon Scale.
It would be a lie to say he wasn't reluctant.
Dragon Scales fetched an enormous price on the market.
But compared to the chance of obtaining a pseudo-legendary Pokémon, the cost seemed insignificant.
Garchomp accepted the small scale with one of its fin-like arms.
Then, to the astonishment of Silas, Blaziken, and Prinplup, it opened its mouth and swallowed the Dragon Scale whole.
So that's how they use it?
Silas watched curiously.
Most Trainers let their Pokémon carry a Dragon Scale to gradually absorb its power.
Very few ever considered eating it.
Apparently, the Garchomp had discovered another way to make use of it.
"Graa."
After swallowing the Dragon Scale, Garchomp's attitude visibly softened.
It still completely ignored Duraludon, but it turned around and flicked its tail at Silas and Blaziken, signaling them to follow.
Unlike before, it didn't fly.
Instead, it calmly walked deeper into the desert.
Recalling Gallade to its Poké Ball, Silas quickly followed behind with Blaziken.
The sandstorm continued to rage.
Meanwhile, the forgotten Duraludon stood rooted to the spot with a puzzled expression.
Wait this isn't how I imagined things would go.
After thinking for a moment, Duraludon simply plopped down onto the sand.
Whatever. That human promised to help me get revenge.
I'll wait until he comes back and ask what happened.
Thinking that, Duraludon casually scooped up a handful of sand and tossed it into its mouth.
Although rocks were its primary food source, eating sand as an occasional snack wasn't bad either.
Its silver body quickly blended into the surrounding landscape.
Meanwhile..
Silas, now deep within the desert, had temporarily forgotten all about Duraludon.
His eyes widened in disbelief at the scene before him.
On top of an enormous sand dune, dozens of Gible and Gabite were happily playing together.
Nearby, numerous Garchomp lay lazily on the sand, resting under the sun.
A quick estimate told him there were at least forty or fifty pseudo-legendary Pokémon gathered here.
His breathing became noticeably heavier.
Forty or fifty pseudo-legendaries, what kind of concept was that?
If pseudo-legendary Pokémon were compared to animals, their rarity would be similar to giant pandas before large-scale conservation efforts.
Compared to Pokémon like Caterpie, which could be found almost anywhere, every pseudo-legendary species was extraordinarily rare.
To Silas, this was like seeing dozens of mountains made entirely of gold.
Earlier, he had assumed Clair's "clan" meant perhaps ten or twenty members.
He had never imagined there would be well over fifty.
And this was only one of the three Garchomp clans.
Thinking about the total number of Dragon-type Pokémon living throughout the Dragon's Den, Silas felt momentarily dizzy.
For a split second, he almost couldn't suppress the urge to rob the Dragon Clan.
No wonder everyone said Blackthorn City was unbelievably wealthy.
They would have to be to support this many Dragon-type Pokémon.
"Graaaah!"
The Garchomp leading Silas suddenly threw its head back and let out a loud roar.
Immediately, dozens of pairs of eyes turned toward Silas.
"Blaze."
Blaziken instinctively stepped in front of Silas, assuming a defensive stance.
This pressure, a bead of sweat slowly rolled down its forehead.
Then, a Garchomp noticeably larger than every other member of the clan slowly rose from the sand.
"Graaaah..."
It answered its clansman's call with a matching roar.
