The two Garchomp began conversing with each other.
It was obvious that the larger Garchomp was the one in charge.
"Zero."
Silas silently called upon the cheat he'd nearly forgotten about.
After a brief analysis, a simple blue panel appeared before him.
[Garchomp
Category: Mach Pokémon
Type: Dragon / Ground
Height: 2.34 m (Average: 1.9 m)
Weight: 127.4 kg (Average: 95.0 kg)
Strength: Champion]
Just as he had expected, this extraordinary-looking Garchomp was the leader of this clan.
Judging by its presence alone, Silas felt that it was probably on par with Cynthia's Garchomp.
That said, Cynthia's Garchomp was slightly smaller.
That was because hers had been raised from a young age by a Trainer.
Wild Pokémon naturally tended to grow larger as they matured, making themselves appear more intimidating and better able to protect their clans.
While the two Garchomp continued talking, the Gible and Gabite curiously observed Silas, a human they had never seen before.
Thanks to the aura of a Legendary Pokémon lingering around him, these youngsters, who had yet to evolve into Garchomp, showed none of the usual aggression.
As for the adult Garchomp nearby, they merely glanced lazily at Silas before lying back down.
Their clan leader would handle the situation.
There was nothing for them to worry about.
Seeing that their parents weren't reacting, the younger Pokémon grew much bolder.
Several Gabite led groups of Gible as they quietly approached Silas.
"Gah."
"Giba."
They gathered around Silas and Blaziken, chatting curiously among themselves.
Blaziken's eyes gradually glowed with the blue light of Aura.
The Garchomp leader glanced in their direction before continuing to lecture the younger Garchomp.
The Gible and Gabite were startled when they sensed Blaziken's Aura and heard its voice directly in their minds.
But before long, they excitedly began chatting with Blaziken.
It was the first time they had ever communicated like this.
Naturally energetic and curious, they found the experience fascinating.
Seeing their companions having so much fun, the remaining Gible and Gabite watching from afar also became eager to join.
Before long, Silas found himself surrounded by what felt like a mountain of gold.
Blaziken hurriedly tried to keep up with the flood of conversations from so many pseudo-legendary youngsters.
It had only intended to exchange a few words.
It never expected to attract this much attention.
"ROAR!"
Suddenly, the Garchomp leader let out a thunderous roar.
Every youngster froze instantly.
With incredible precision, it swatted each Gible and Gabite away with a single sweep of its fin-like arm.
Although they were sent flying across the sand, none of them suffered even the slightest injury thanks to its perfect control of strength.
Instead, they happily cried out in delight.
A few of them even started running back, eager to experience it again.
The Garchomp leader's face darkened.
"Grah!"
Realizing things were about to get worse, the other adult Garchomp quickly called their children back.
Only then did the clan leader nod in satisfaction.
Ignoring the youngsters who were still peeking over from a distance, it turned toward Silas and Blaziken.
"Grah."
As it spoke, it gestured with its fin-like arms.
Blaziken immediately translated.
"It says that although its child brought us here, the young of their clan are never entrusted to outsiders."
"So our trip was in vain."
"However, because of the Dragon Scale, it's willing to have its child take us to the other two Garchomp clans."
"If the leaders there approve of you, then one of their young may leave with you as your Pokémon."
Only then did Silas understand why the younger Garchomp had agreed so readily.
So that one was the clan leader's son.
Still, this wasn't what he had hoped for.
He had specifically come for the best Gible this clan had to offer.
And judging from both the clan leader's words and everything before him, this Garchomp clan was undoubtedly one of the Dragon's Den's greatest pillars.
That only made him even more interested.
"But your child didn't tell me that."
Silas argued calmly.
"It only said that I needed your approval."
"It never mentioned that your clan's young could never leave with outsiders. Those are two very different things, aren't they?"
The Garchomp leader shot an irritated glare at its disappointing offspring.
The younger Garchomp cautiously nodded.
"Grah!"
The leader angrily swung one of its fin-like arms.
Just you wait.
I'll deal with you after this.
Then it turned back toward Silas with a troubled expression.
Driving him away wasn't really an option.
As the strongest Garchomp in this region, it had a much closer relationship with the Dragon Clan than most other Pokémon.
If Silas hadn't entered the territory, that would have been one thing.
But now that he was here, it had to show the Dragon Clan at least some respect.
Ultimately, the blame rested with its foolish child.
It had specifically ordered that no human Trainers be allowed inside.
Yet the youngster had ignored those instructions. How could it possibly lead the Garchomp clan in the future?
The clan leader looked thoroughly annoyed.
After remaining silent for seven or eight minutes, it finally and reluctantly extended one of its fin-like arms toward Silas.
With a slight flick of its claw, it deftly plucked the vivid flower from Silas's pocket.
"Roar."
Blaziken immediately translated.
"It says for you to wait here."
"It's going to ask someone."
Watching the Garchomp leader disappear deeper into the Dragon's Den at incredible speed, Silas narrowed his eyes.
If his guess was correct that flower had been cultivated by the Guardian Dragonite of the Dragon's Den.
He vaguely remembered that the deepest part of the Dragon's Den contained the Dragon Shrine, a place Ash had once visited.
The flowers there bloomed all year round because they had been infused with Dragonite's power.
Silas estimated that if he visited any other pseudo-legendary clan carrying that flower, he could probably leave with one of their young without much difficulty.
This was likely Dragon Elder gift to him as a member of the younger generation.
The Garchomp clan, however, was one of the rare exceptions.
Perhaps even Dragon Elder hadn't expected Silas to reach the heart of this particular clan.
Before entering the Dragon's Den, Clair had told him that although the Guardian had always been the strongest Dragonite, any Dragon-type Pokémon could challenge it.
Should the Guardian lose, the title would immediately pass to the victor.
Among all Dragon-type Pokémon, only the Dragonite clan itself was stronger than the Garchomp.
The strongest Garchomp clan therefore had the greatest chance of claiming the Guardian's position.
With that in mind, it made perfect sense that they refused to let their young leave.
Most likely, they hoped one of their descendants would eventually grow powerful enough to defeat Dragonite and inherit the sacred title of Guardian.
"Grah."
The young prince Garchomp awkwardly shuffled over.
Blaziken translated with a helpless expression.
"It's asking if you have another Dragon Scale. It says that if you give it one more, it might be able to convince its dad."
Blaziken couldn't help but feel speechless.
This Garchomp was quite good at trying to get something for nothing.
Silas rolled his eyes.
"I don't have any more."
There was a reason he hadn't thought this Garchomp held a particularly high status at first.
According to Zero's analysis, this young prince was only at the Elite Four-level threshold.
While that was certainly impressive, it looked rather underwhelming compared to his father's true Champion-level strength, giving off the impression of a mighty father with a somewhat less impressive son.
Still, judging by its personality and behavior, it wasn't particularly old yet.
It still had room to grow.
Reaching Champion level, however, was probably out of the question.
"Graah."
The Garchomp let out a dissatisfied grunt.
It had the distinct feeling that this human was thinking something very rude about it.
Silas kept a perfectly straight face.
"About how long will your father be gone?"
"Grah."
The Garchomp thought for a moment before raising one of its fin-like arms three times.
"Three minutes? Looks like the Dragon Shrine isn't very far from here."
Silas silently understood its meaning.
Seeing that Silas was no longer paying attention to it, and realizing there weren't any more Dragon Scales to be had, the Garchomp quickly lost interest.
It immediately trotted over to another Garchomp whose dorsal fin had no notches in it, eagerly trying to get its attention.
It was a female Garchomp.
Unfortunately for him, she clearly wasn't interested.
She simply turned around and flew to another sand dune.
The young Garchomp didn't mind in the slightest and hurried after her without hesitation.
"So a simp?"
The word suddenly popped into Silas's mind.
You're the chief's son.
Do you really have to be this humble?
Meanwhile, Blaziken had grown bored and started playing with the Gible.
The little Pokémon, who loved warmth, were naturally very fond of Blaziken.
Whenever it released even a tiny bit of heat from its flames, they became even more excited.
Three minutes passed quickly.
Just as the young Garchomp had said, the clan leader returned to the territory not long afterward.
There was a trace of frustration on its face.
Silas noticed immediately, and his heart skipped a beat with excitement.
"Grah."
The Garchomp leader pointed unhappily toward the clan's young.
Blaziken translated.
"It says you may choose one of the young to take with you."
"But only if the Gible itself is willing."
As it translated, Blaziken glanced around at the Gible gathered beside it.
Honestly it didn't think the second condition would be much of a problem.
Silas grinned broadly before deciding to push his luck a little further.
"Ahem I was wondering..."
"Do you happen to have any newly laid Gible Eggs?"
"These children have already spent quite some time with their parents. I'd really rather not separate them from their families."
Blaziken was utterly amazed.
So this was the true art of speaking.
Silas had somehow managed to say 'I don't want any of these' in a way that sounded thoughtful and compassionate.
No wonder he was the boss.
"Hmph."
The Garchomp leader snorted heavily.
It fixed Silas with an irritated glare for more than ten seconds before finally letting out a loud roar toward the distance.
A much smaller Garchomp slowly climbed to its feet, then lazily flew into a cave entrance behind the clan.
