Repairs to Eve were completed after several more hours of work. Adam couldn't bring her back to factory level quality, obviously, but all damage she had taken over the last week or so had been repaired, and he even realigned a few things that Eve, herself, was not able to. All in all Eve was very satisfied with his work. While Adam was very curious to read her programming he decided to not even bring it up as she just confided in him that it's her biggest fear.
After being asked to not-so-subtly sleep with her Adam left the room and headed to scout out the perfect room for his next renovation. A movie theater.
Adam now had all the pieces to get a movie theater started, a movie projector, a few film reels, and certainly enough chairs scattered throughout the Vault. However as he was looking for a perfect room to set this up in he stopped at the school, still lying unused. The Vault now had children, of course the children were far too young to really go to school, but some sort of daycare wouldn't be a bad idea, more than that when they grew older he would need to have a teacher to teach them all. He would need to think that over. Right now there were a lot of vault residents, many of whom did not have any particular job, most just helping keep the Vault clean. However maybe one or more could look after the kids full time during the day? It was worth looking into.
For now though he just filed that thought away into his brain and continued to find a perfect space for his movie theater. If he did not have an entire Vault to play with he would not even consider doing this, but there were an untold number of rooms still unused. Though now, with so many new faces, the Vault truly felt alive. It no longer felt like he was squatting with a handful of other folks, now it felt like a proper community. Which was not his goal when he set out to move here. But it worked out for the best anyway. There were still many details to work out to make this home truly thrive but he was lucky that he did not need to come up with everything himself, so instead he just focused on what he could do.
Adam eventually found a perfect space to turn into his movie theater, a practically unused warehouse room that had enough space to house quite a few people if he took the time to bring in chairs and such. So that is how the rest of the day was spent. Adam cleaned up the unused space, found a new storage place for all the things inside, and then started to move everything in.
He had every intention of handling it alone, after all it was his personal project, but some other people came to help out and within a few hours a moderately nice set-up for a movie theater was established. Of course they only had a few film reels, but he could hopefully find more. And having more activity spaces for community activities was always a great thing to have. Besides, Adam had always wished for his own personal movie theater in his home. While this might not be exactly like he imagined it, he did indeed have a personal movie theater… shared with his over 100 roommates.
Once Adam was done he grabbed a meal and went to bed. His day was spent fruitfully if not very eventful.
In fact the next week flew by without anything of major note happening at all. Adam had a backlog of work he could no longer put off. So, with Eric's help, he began to systematically repair every single robot he was entrusted with, starting with the Gunner's robots. While the robots had a lot of work needed to get them back to fighting shape, they were not in such rough shape Adam couldn't repair them anymore. By the end of the week every single robot had been fixed up to his satisfaction. Which was good because a week's worth of work to get all this done was actually great time. Eric learned a lot too and even said that he was still working on the motorcycle but he was reasonably confident that, given time, he should be able to fix it. Which gave him even more motivation for having the garage finished.
By the end of the week a few things had changed besides just the robots being fixed. For one there was now a dedicated 'Vault Guard' as people had begun to refer to them. 15 in total. Which was a not insignificant fighting force. He had yet to sit in on one of the training sessions that Paxton was drilling them through, since he was busy, but they already looked a bit more professional, which was a good sign.
Next, as it turned out, the doctor's words, just like last time, were prophetic. Over the course of the week two separate people approached him about taking over spaces for commercial purposes. As it turned out, one woman, Gracie, used to run a store before her home was destroyed and was eager to do that again, taking one of the unused living quarters near the cafeteria and turning it into a full fledged general store. Obviously most of what people needed was readily available due to the Vault's stocks, but not everything, this gave people a means to sell off old things they did not need and buy other people's items. It also opened the possibility for crafted goods to be sold through her as well which, speaking of crafted goods, a second store was opened by the second man, Karl, who asked for a space.
Prompted by his friends he opened up a tailor's shop with an attached cobbler workshop. He lacked many materials at the moment but his prospects were on the up and up especially since Deccanus was fond of hunting, and quite good at it. He was supplied with some leather for his use as well as various other things he took from around the Vault to make custom clothing. Some people, of course, decided to wear Vault suits like Adam, but it was few and far between, most people preferred to wear whatever sort of fashion they wanted to. The clothier shop was not yet set up yet, only having started the day before the week was over, but it promised to add even more color down inside the Vault.
There were also whispers of some other stores that might open up in the future, the possibilities seemed endless to these folks who had, until recently, been homeless and the energy was infectious.
Adam was aware though that they had to be careful not to let this get too out of hand. If they let the commerce go too far, it could become a situation of haves and have nots. For the time being anything that was essential for life, such as food and sleeping quarters he felt should be free to anyone living down here. Though if a guest were to come from outside they could pay. Was he making a society similar to the one at renaissance? Was he becoming… socialist? No, no. This was nothing more than an intentional community, it was natural they helped each other… right? Adam was not too fond of this thought. Admitting the communists did even one thing right made him uneasy so for now he just threw it out of his head. After all, then what would have been the point of the ideological differences?
