Mila didn't know when the bird would come. Even if she did, she couldn't go out to greet it.
Version 1.0F was a cage. Compared to that free bird that might never arrive, she was the one who was more like a bird in a cage.
She placed a book on her desk, turning it into a—mousepad. She felt a little gloomy again.
At this point, it was time to play a satisfying round of a galge.
Mila nodded emphatically. Trapped in her cage, aside from reading, playing galges was probably her only pastime.
Even though it was a game aimed at a male audience, she found it surprisingly interesting. After all, the only one she could "talk" to was the heroine.
Using the book as a mousepad, she skillfully opened the icon on her computer.
Click, click. With a double click, the brilliant logo for "Mita Love Story" instantly filled the entire screen.
She glanced at the clock. This time... she'd go for another True Ending!
"Mmm..."
[Start Game]
Five minutes later...
"Wh-wh-wh... why?"
The literary girl's composure was gone. Her eyes widened as she stared at the scene on the monitor:
The texture for 2D Mita's room was still gorgeous, and every CG could be used as a desktop-level wallpaper.
The game interface also displayed some system announcements, such as bugs with the "Bad End." What kind of fool would get the Bad End route in this game? At the very least, you should get a good ending.
But in Mila's eyes, none of that mattered. Because—
"Why is the heroine gone?!"
The frantic girl's eyes reflected the game on the screen, which, aside from the background art and UI, had no character sprites at all.
Is a galge without a heroine still a galge? Where did the "visual" in visual novel go?
Was she supposed to talk to thin air? Or imagine a heroine? That was just too sad...
"No way..." She grabbed her hair, messing it up into a bird's nest.
After a moment, she calmed down, deciding she shouldn't give up so quickly.
A fire ignited in her eyes!
Right, she couldn't give up so easily! Her only pastime was gone, which was almost worse than being locked in a cage...
So, she clicked the [Mailbox] icon, wanting to see if the game had an explanation. But after seeing a single sentence, Mila almost smashed her computer.
"'The heroine was taken away by someone'... What does that even mean?!"
What is this? Some kind of NTR plot? The game actually sends out announcements like this?
The monitor reflected her terribly dark expression and a single, crystalline drop of sweat trickling down her forehead.
This is ridiculous... Whoever took away her only pastime!
Mila made up her mind. If she ever met that person in the future, she would absolutely give them a solid headbutt! To vent her frustration!
She threw a few feeble punches while sitting in her computer chair. The chair creaked and groaned, unable to bear the strain for more than a few seconds.
"Whoa?!"
It collapsed to the floor, taking Mila with it.
"That hurts..." The girl rubbed her sore backside, looking at the dismantled computer chair with endless grievance in her eyes.
"Why am I so unlucky? First, I'm locked in here, and now..."
She looked at the lonely background image on the computer and the parts of her broken chair.
Pale white particles still danced tirelessly, settling on her slender back.
"Are you going to take even these things away from me?"
Alain, who had just passed through the door of Version 1.9, sensed something. He subconsciously glanced back, thinking Crazy Mita might be spying on him from somewhere.
Version 1.9 was uncharacteristically quiet and peaceful, with not a soul in sight. Seeing no one, he breathed a sigh of relief.
A moment ago, after bidding farewell to his dear Short-Haired Mita, Alain had left the Tiny Version, planning to first go to Version 1.1 to find Sleepy Mita and bring her to the real world.
He had been on high alert while passing through Version 1.9, but seeing the empty room, his vigilance turned to a question: What on earth was Crazy Mita up to?
Last time, to protect himself, Alain had tricked her into taking a bath, which resulted in the bad woman's frantic outburst. He hadn't seen Crazy Mita since then.
...
...
Come to think of it, whenever that girl was out of his sight, she always managed to stir up some unexpected trouble. This time, could it be...
"No, I'm just worrying too much."
Maybe Crazy Mita found another version with a virus and went there to clear it out. Alain shook his head, dismissing the wild speculation.
The priority right now was to take Miffy home.
Still... Alain couldn't help but wonder what face to make when he imagined the girl sleeping like a log the moment she arrived in reality.
That won't do... Once they got back, he definitely needed to take her on a date to let Miffy get to know the real world.
Having made up his mind, he let out a breath and opened the door to Version 1.1.
Version 1.1 was just as he had left it. Dim lighting and a cozy star projector lamp.
"?"
The only difference was the figure waiting for him on the sofa.
"Ahhh-wuu..."
She let out a lazy yawn, seemingly having heard the door open, and turned her head to look.
Seeing his face, the girl smiled sweetly. "It's been a while..."
"A while..." Alain repeated the word with a wry smile. "Hasn't it only been a few hours?"
"Mmm, a few hours is a long time."
She said absently, walking lightly over to Alain, tugging on his sleeve, and yawning again.
"Aren't you taking me to the real world? Let's go."
"You," Alain said helplessly. "Once we're back in reality, you can sleep. But don't forget about our date, and spending time with everyone else."
"A date... is it?"
To Alain's surprise, upon hearing the word "date," Miffy's sleepy eyes sparkled with light.
"You don't like the idea?"
"I do..." The girl's frank words made Alain pause for a moment.
He chuckled, patting Miffy's head. "Alright, alright. Well then, get ready."
"Mmm." Miffy nodded obediently, and Alain then summoned the Safety Assistant Panel.
"I'll be counting on you, then," Alain said, looking at the System Fairy standing in the center of the panel—2D Mita.
"Okay~"
She was like a navigator, or maybe a helmsman, shouting loudly with rather exaggerated movements.
"Course corrected, destination—Reality! Under my, Mita's, guidance, Alain will journey to the stars and the seas!"
"Hey, you..." Alain gestured as if to give the cute girl an unforgettable rap on the head.
So chuuni...
"Portal, open!"
Miffy watched from the side, wondering who Alain was talking to. A moment later, a bright light bloomed beneath her feet, like a ring.
In her eyes, the ring of light gradually spread inward, contracting to form a disk.
Miffy seemed to be waiting for something, but after several seconds, it never came.
It wasn't until a feeling of weightlessness enveloped her that the world of Mita began to gradually fade, growing paler until it disappeared into pure daylight...
Only then did she look at Alain with a radiant smile.
"Reality, please be good to me."
