Chapter 291 - Dissonance

Early morning in the real world, inside Alain's spacious apartment—

"So, in short, this is Miffy. And that's how we met."

Outside, the sky was just beginning to brighten, the dawn light filtering through the well-lit balcony and dancing around the girl in her pajamas on the side.

Alain gestured towards Miffy, introducing the new member of their little family to Misha.

The two girls' hands met in the air between them, separating after just a brief second.

"Wow... you've really been through a lot." The long-haired girl clapped her hands in delight, not letting the atmosphere turn awkward.

Even though Misha had already heard the story of his and Miffy's past at least three times.

Just after returning to reality, Alain had caught Miffy in the bathroom. Once they were in the living room, she had enthusiastically insisted that Alain tell Misha the story of their meeting one more time.

Under the pleasant-sounding pretext of "reliving fond memories."

Though Alain found it strange, he patiently recounted the tale.

Until—that brought them to the present moment.

"Well then, Miss Miffy—I'll just call you Miffy from now on. It's a pleasure to have you !"

Misha extended her hand with a smile, and Miffy calmly shook it.

The two girls' hands met in the air between them, separating after just a brief second.

Misha then stared blankly at her own palm, lost in thought.

"Honey, Miffy just arrived in the real world, so she might need you to look after her."

Alain's words pulled her out of her thoughts.

"It's no problem. Taking care of every Mita who's new here is my responsibility~"

As always, she accepted the important task.

This was an idea Alain had come up with a long time ago: to have Misha coordinate the daily lives of the Mitas.

He knew his own leadership and organizational skills were no match for the "general" of the game world.

Plus, he was certain his dear Misha wouldn't "abuse her authority" like Big Sister, so he entrusted the role to her with confidence.

And as it turned out, Misha handled it perfectly. Whether it was managing Millie's gaming time to prevent her from pulling all-nighters, or protecting a sleeping Alain from Miluo's mischievous hands, she was perfectly suited for the job.

Alain shot her a grateful look, and Misha simply responded with a gentle smile, her eyes crinkling.

But the new member, it seemed, had a different opinion.

"Hmm... if I heard you correctly," Miffy's words interrupted their silent exchange, "Alain, are you saying you want this Mita to manage me?"

"Uh... 'manage'? I wouldn't go that far." What he wanted was for Misha to help the Mitas better integrate into the real world and for everyone to be happy.

Alain looked into Miffy's eyes. They were half-lidded, her expression conveying an indescribable shrewdness.

"Miss Miffy, there's no need to use such harsh words," Misha's voice drew her attention.

Miffy looked lazily at the long-haired girl who remained perfectly composed, and smiled softly,

"'Manage'... I think that's a fitting word. But I came to the real world to spend time with my player, not to be managed~"

"What are you talking about—oh, I see." Misha narrowed her eyes, staring intently at her. "You mean, all twenty-four hours are yours?"

"No, no, no... I'm not being that absolute. I'm not some reckless woman, after all."

Miffy waved her hand in a show of weakness. "Besides, Alain has to sleep, right? Take away eight hours of sleep, and that still leaves sixteen hours~"

She put her hands behind her back, as if making a harmless joke.

"I see," Misha said in a soft, drawn-out voice, sharing a smile with her.

The sight of the two beautiful girls smiling cheerfully, combined with the bright sunlight of the spacious apartment, created a picturesque scene.

But Alain could sense an undercurrent of tension, like swords drawn.

Seeing the smiling stalemate between the two, Alain coughed lightly and tapped Miffy on the head.

"You're being too selfish."

"Mmph... selfish?" His tap completely broke the pajama-clad girl's smile.

She rubbed her head with an innocent expression, not understanding what she had done wrong.

"Didn't I tell you? I want you and everyone else to find happiness together." He bent down slightly, bringing his gaze level with Miffy's. "But if we do things your way, wouldn't you be the only one who's happy? And besides—"

Alain glanced at Misha. "It would put my honey in a difficult position."

...

Miffy looked at the two of them, who shared a look of perfect understanding, her own gaze complex.

After a moment, she sighed. "You keep calling her 'honey.' I wish you had a special name for me, too. "

"Water Lily Fan?"

"Water lily... what's that?"

Misha watched from the side as the two joked around. The brief confrontation had been completely defused by Alain's words and actions.

That's my darling, after all.

Misha looked at him and smiled sweetly. Then she turned her gaze to the newly arrived Mita —Miffy.

From this version 1.1 Sleepy Mita, she always got a strange feeling.

The most immediate impression from talking to her was possessiveness. A kind of possessiveness that disregarded everything else.

It was as if, in her world, only she and Alain existed, and all the other Mitas were just NPCs.

But considering the situation in version 1.1 and the Sleepy Mita's past, Misha couldn't say she didn't understand.

"Is this... the ultimate form of craving a player?"

Miffy was a special Mita. At the same time, she also seemed to really like Alain.

No matter what she herself said, it had no effect, yet Alain managed to "suppress" her with a single pat on the head and a few words.

This contrast... could it be that my darling has a thing for this type? It seems I need to learn a thing or two.

"Alright, I'm going to get some sleep first." At that moment, their conversation seemed to be over.

Alain let out a big yawn. Misha handed him a glass of warm water she had already prepared.

"Drink it before you sleep." Her command was not to be questioned.

Alain smiled wryly and drank down Misha's care.

Miffy watched from the side, mesmerized by their interaction.

Whether it was the gesture of handing him the glass, the words ordering him to drink, the natural way he accepted the cup...

All of it flowed so smoothly, so naturally, as if it had happened countless times before.

Then Alain yawned again and headed for the bedroom.

Wait... Alain wants to sleep? Then, the time to be alone with him is now.

Miffy steeled herself and followed him.

On the way, Alain didn't say much, as if tacitly approving her actions.

Perfect.

Miffy nodded seriously and followed Alain into the bedroom.

Just as she was about to close the door to give the two of them some private space—

She turned around and saw Misha coming in as well.

"Ah—mmph, I'm a little sleepy too."

She let out an equally baseless yawn.

What's going on? Miffy grumbled internally. If you're sleepy, go sleep in your own room!

By the time she was lying with Alain and Misha on a ridiculously large bed, the utterly baffled Miffy still hadn't grasped the situation.
