Chapter 541: Good Thing There's After-Sales Service
Steven's grand plan to kill time with these new folks ended… before it even began.
Not because he suddenly grew a conscience and lost interest in the fight, but because she abruptly stopped.
Since the other party had withdrawn first, Steven found it a bit awkward to start the fight himself.
After all, if she attacked first, it would count as self-defense. But taking the initiative to hit a girl? Yeah… no.
He shot her a puzzled look.
Judging from her earlier stance and expression, this fight had clearly reached the point where it was unavoidable.
And yet, the blonde girl merely looked him up and down with the same hint of confusion, then shook her head and calmly put away her weapon.
"If you insist," she said in a flat, almost mechanical tone, "then you may keep that item for now. As long as you can ensure it does not cause further disturbances, the Inspectorate will refrain from intervening in this matter."
After stating the decision, she gave a small nod to her equally confused companion, then turned and walked toward the exit without another glance.
Her sudden change of attitude wasn't because she sensed some hidden trump card in the stranger.
Nor was it fear.
On the contrary—she had actually been looking forward to fighting him.
The problem was… this wasn't a decision she had the authority to make.
At the very moment she faced Steven, a voice—one that should not have been in Lungmen—had echoed in her ears.
Her master's voice.
He gave no explanation—only a single instruction: be careful of the boy in front of you.
And that was enough.
She trusted her master's judgment completely.
Of course, she had only said she would no longer interfere regarding the chess piece.
She never said she would stop monitoring the boy himself.
If anything, that was precisely the Department of Discipline and Supervision duty.
Direct intervention like this only happened under urgent and necessary circumstances.
As she reached the doorway, her steps paused briefly.
She turned back, her golden hair faintly visible beneath the hood.
"I'll be watching you," she said, her voice carrying both warning and reminder. "Whether it's the chaos caused by that chess piece… or trouble stirred up by you personally."
She held his gaze for a moment.
"Remember this, this is Yan. And the Inspectorate… is everywhere."
With that, she disappeared beyond the doorway without waiting for a reply.
Steven scratched his head in complete bewilderment.
After she left, he exchanged a confused look with Lin Yuxia, who seemed just as lost.
"What was that about?" he muttered. "Did she just… glitch out? Or was she giving you face or something?"
Truth be told, this kind of situation wasn't new to him.
Plenty of times before, people who should've become his enemies suddenly backed down—usually because they sensed some overwhelming "aura" from him.
An aura he himself couldn't even feel.
But this time, he had specifically commissioned Nian to craft an accessory to suppress that presence.
And yet… the result was still the same.
For a moment, Steven wasn't sure whether Nian had sold him a defective product, or if the other party's instincts were just that sharp.
Either way, he could only throw the question toward Lin Yuxia.
If he got the chance later, he was definitely going back to settle accounts with Nian.
He had provided all the materials, and now the equipment wasn't working?
That had to be covered under warranty, right?
"I don't know," Lin Yuxia replied, shaking her head. "It's not like I'm familiar with the Inspectorate."
She paused, then added seriously:
"But as someone from Lungmen, let me give you one piece of advice, stay as far away from those people as you can. Getting involved with them… tends to bring misfortune."
Meanwhile, with even the Inspectorate stepping in, Lin Yuxia knew she couldn't delay any longer. She had to report everything that happened here to her superior—and to her father.
If even they were taking this so seriously, then the chess piece Steven had casually stuffed into his bag was definitely no ordinary item.
"That's not necessarily a bad thing," Steven said lazily. "Someone once told me that being around me brings misfortune. Maybe if we stack enough negatives together, it'll cancel out into positives."
He clearly didn't care much about the Inspectorate's appearance.
Whether they wanted to fight or not was up to them. But if they dared to strike first, then they'd be the ones in the wrong.
As for the blonde girl's warning before leaving?
He didn't take it seriously at all.
So what if they were watching him?
It wasn't like he had anything to hide. If the Inspectorate wanted to observe, they were welcome to.
If anything, he was getting bored lately—this might actually add some excitement to his life.
"On that one point, I completely agree," Lin Yuxia shot back, rolling her eyes. "Being around you is definitely worse than being around them. Just looking at you is already giving me a headache."
"Alright, alright," Steven sighed, raising his hands in mock surrender. "I'll escort you back, okay? Judging by the time, that Yenwu guy should have finished discussing things with your father by now. I can drop by and talk business with them again."
He glanced out the window at the blazing sun hanging high in the sky, as well as the distant sound of sirens gradually approaching.
If he didn't leave now, he'd probably end up getting dragged back to the Guard Department again for another round of "life reflection."
And Steven had no intention of reuniting so soon with that troublesome Sankta.
Making his decision on the spot, he turned back toward Lin Yuxia and—much to her confusion—extended both hands toward her in an oddly gentlemanly manner.
"…What exactly are you doing?" she asked bluntly, unable to make sense of it.
"This hand," Steven said, lifting his left, "is an invitation. Instead of walking back, I have a faster method."
"And the right hand?"
"That's for transportation fees, of course." He grinned. "Don't tell me you expected me to give you a free ride? What are you, my wife?"
