Chapter 542: It Was Just a Simple Teleport
Lin Yuxia had no idea what kind of nonsense Santiago was suddenly spouting. She simply assumed he was having one of his occasional episodes again. Still, she sighed and gave in, casually pulling out a stack of Lungmen dollars from her small bag and placing it into his palm.
At the very least, this guy was only asking for money this time—not something outrageous like stockings like before. If paying up could keep him quiet and out of trouble, Lin Yuxia was more than willing to consider it money well spent.
But in the very next second, as he grabbed her hand and dragged her straight into a pitch-black void that appeared out of thin air in front of them, she immediately realized just how serious the situation was.
Before she could even react—before she could wrench her hand free or take a defensive stance—the world spun violently around her. A wave of dizziness hit, and then everything stopped.
When her vision cleared, Lin Yuxia found herself standing in a place that felt all too familiar.
The candy shop sign hanging above her head… the elderly shopkeeper inside, staring at them in visible shock through the window…
Every detail told her one undeniable truth.
In the blink of an eye, she had been taken from the auction house—at least a dozen kilometers away—right back to the candy shop where it had all begun.
"Teleportation really is a nice power to have."
As if nothing unusual had happened, Steven casually counted the Lungmen dollars he had just received. Whether the amount was large or small didn't matter—the important thing was the gesture. After all, there was no way he'd let her "ride" for free.
Completely oblivious to the way Lin Yuxia was staring at him like he was some kind of monster, Steven didn't even think to help her pick her jaw up off the floor.
Inside the candy shop, the Rat King, Lin Kojui, was equally stunned. He was certain that just moments ago, there had been no one outside. And yet now, the two of them had appeared out of nowhere without him sensing a thing.
That… was suspicious.
"What did you just do?"
Finally snapping out of her daze, Lin Yuxia cautiously pinched the back of her hand to confirm she wasn't dreaming. Only then did she turn to the guy beside him and voiced the question.
This didn't feel like an illusion.
But if it was some kind of Art… she had never heard of anything like it. Even abilities resembling instant movement shouldn't be able to cover such a distance.
Otherwise… if this guy became an assassin, who in the world could possibly stop him?
"What do you mean 'what did I do'? I just didn't want anyone interrupting our walk, so I took the convenient route and brought you back."
Steven shrugged, completely at ease. To someone like him—who used teleportation as an everyday means of travel—this kind of thing was nothing out of the ordinary.
"Alright, stop being so shocked. I'd say the person who wants to make a deal with me should be arriving about now."
He glanced toward a car approaching in the distance, cutting off any further questions Lin Yuxia might have asked. After all, no matter how much he explained, he'd just brush it off as some vague "Originium Art" in the end—so why bother?
Seeing the vehicle, Lin Yuxia forced herself to suppress her curiosity. All of this could be compiled into a report later. Right now, the priority was securing the purchasing rights for the weapons in Santiago possession.
Lin Kojui—who had been polishing a glass—paused and looked up at the relaxed young man.
"I assume you've gotten the answers you were looking for. Care to share what became of them?"
"Of course," Steven replied with a faint smile. "When it comes to bad people, isn't there only one ending?"
He offered nothing more.
"Why? Don't tell me this also goes against the 'rules' you keep talking about?"
With a faint, curious smile, Steven looked at the white-haired old rat in front of him. He couldn't quite figure out why the man was asking. After all, he had gone there specifically to deal with the situation—was this old guy trying to hold him accountable now?
"No, they were the ones who broke the rules first. I'm just… a little curious about how you did it," the Rat King replied calmly. "After all, I didn't receive any reports of explosions like the ones earlier."
As he spoke, his gaze subtly shifted past Steven, landing on Lin Yuxia behind him. If anyone knew what had really happened, it would be her.
The young man in front of him looked like nothing more than an ordinary human. Lin Kojui couldn't quite imagine how he could've dealt with a group like the Umbrella operatives. Even Lin Yuxia herself might not have been able to come out of that without some fatal injuries.
"Well, isn't that enough?" Steven shrugged lazily, he didn't even bother making up a convincing excuse "Just think of it as me being born with divine strength—or maybe they were overwhelmed by my righteous aura. The moment I walked in, they all dropped to their knees and begged for mercy. No fight needed."
Seeing that kind of answer, the Rat King lost interest in pressing further. He could always get the details from his daughter later, so there was no need to rush.
Besides, the real business was about to begin.
"Old Lin, still as fond of candy as ever, I see. Haven't your teeth fallen out yet?"
A newcomer—a middle-aged man with the head of a dragon—pushed the store door open and greeted the Rat King casually. Only then did he shift his gaze toward Steven, his expression softening into a warm, polite smile.
"I've heard that you wish to discuss a deal, Mr. Steven?"
"But I wonder…"
"Does this deal represent you personally, or Rhodes Island… or perhaps the Kazimierz-based Block Consortium?"
