General Rick stepped onto the platform and looked over the hall, his expression solemn for only a moment before a faint smile appeared on his face.
"First of all, congratulations." The words immediately drew several confused looks from the students.
"You have survived." He paused, letting the words settle.
"Those of you standing here today have passed the most important test you will ever face during your time at this school."
A murmur spread through the hall.
Rick raised a hand, silencing it. "Every year, we prepare you for battle. We teach you how to fight, how to survive, and how to protect those around you. But there are lessons that cannot be taught in a classroom."
His expression hardened. "Today's test was designed to cull the weak and toughen the strong."
Victor's eyes narrowed. *Bullshit.* He leaned against the railing, watching the general with open contempt.
