The facility wasn't in the city at all.
Ashworth's people picked them up two days after the initial meeting, and the drive took nearly four hours, winding deeper into countryside Victor didn't recognize until the car finally stopped in front of a compound that looked like it had been carved directly into the side of a mountain rather than built on top of it.
"Cheerful," Caleb muttered, eyeing the sheer stone face rising above the entrance.
"It's meant to be defensible," Samuel said. "Not welcoming."
They'd insisted on Samuel accompanying them, and Ashworth had agreed without much resistance, which Victor found more unsettling than reassuring. An organization confident enough to let an outsider walk their halls either trusted him completely or didn't consider him enough of a threat to bother restricting.
