Dipter flowed from one attack into the next, making it clear that he had no intention of letting up. Each time Max thought he had reached the end of a combination, Dipter twisted his body and launched another strike.
Max was struggling to find an opening.
He stepped back as he blocked a kick aimed at the side of his head. Dipter immediately changed direction and attacked his body instead, forcing Max to lift his leg and block it in time. Another kick followed, sweeping towards his face, and Max ducked beneath it.
Although none of Dipter's attacks had landed cleanly, meaning they weren't doing any major damage, it was clear that Max was on the back foot.
Does he not tire out? Max thought.
It appeared that Dipter was using circular breathing, allowing him to perform all of his movements as if he were doing nothing more exhausting than taking a gentle jog. His breathing remained controlled despite the speed of his attacks, and his movements showed no signs of slowing down.
