The main office contained little furniture that could provide cover, making it obvious where Dennis and Max were hiding. As Fred watched the attackers advance towards the desk, he knew he had to act.
"No!" he shouted, trying to draw their attention.
The three men turned towards him and saw that he had captured one of their companions. One immediately raised his gun and opened fire.
Fred shifted, keeping the man he held between himself and the weapon. Bullets struck the captive's body as Fred attempted to push forwards behind him.
However, moving while supporting the man's weight was proving difficult. Worse still, he had only managed to distract one attacker. The other two continued towards the desk.
Max knew he couldn't wait any longer. He prepared to move, but Dennis noticed what he was doing.
