c149: Mew, Encounter at Summer Camp!!
The mysterious pink Pokémon battling Nidoking resembled a small feline, its soft body glowing faintly with a pinkish-red hue.
Its tail, long and slender, stretched nearly twice the length of its body, curling slightly at the olive-shaped tip. It had large, expressive sky-blue eyes and delicate limbs, giving it the appearance of a mythical kitten floating weightlessly in the air.
But to say it was fighting Nidoking would be misleading. A more accurate description would be that it was playing. This ethereal Pokémon, which hovered mid-air through what appeared to be telekinetic levitation, was clearly not exerting itself.
When Nidoking launched a Mega Punch followed by a Hammer Arm, the pink kitten-like Pokémon simply teleported in brief flashes of glimmering light, avoiding each strike with casual grace.
Roaring with frustration after missing repeatedly, Nidoking pounded its muscular chest with thunderous force, unleashing bellowing howls that shook the air.
"Mi-mi~ (>y<)"
Watching Nidoking's angry outburst, the pink Pokémon giggled mischievously, placing its tiny paws over its mouth and floating backward, its face brimming with innocent delight.
But this playful behavior only further enraged the Nidoking.
"Bang bang bang ROAR!!" Nidoking slammed both fists down into the earth with terrifying strength. The ground cracked violently, a thunderous Earth Power bursting outward like a fissure awakening from slumber.
Rocks shattered, and mud and soil surged toward the pink Pokémon like an oncoming avalanche. It seemed there would be no escape.
Yet the creature merely twisted slightly in the air. The space around it shimmered strangely, as if refracting light, and in a blink, it vanished through Teleport, reappearing on the opposite side of Nidoking, safe and unscathed.
The geyser of earth and debris launched skyward, missing its mark entirely and crashing back down into the ground with a dull rumble.
The pink Pokémon floated behind Nidoking now, still laughing cheerfully at the one-sided game.
But like any game of catch, one must eventually toss the ball back. If only one side throws, the game becomes dull.
"Boom...!" As if acknowledging this truth, the pink kitten suddenly dove downward, tiny fists clenched. Then, with a burst of psychic force, it slammed its paws into the ground below.
Once more, the ground exploded with power. This time, the Earth Power attack surged directly beneath Nidoking.
From his distant vantage point, Ash couldn't immediately tell whether the mysterious Pokémon already knew Earth Power, or if it had used an advanced mimicry technique perhaps something akin to Copycat or a Psychic-type replication skill to reproduce the move Nidoking had just used.
Either way, the result was unmistakable.
Caught off guard, Nidoking froze in place, his red eyes widening in shock. The earth beneath him buckled and then erupted.
"BANG!" Soil and rock surged like an inverted waterfall. Unable to react, Nidoking was struck full force, his heavy body lifted slightly off the ground before crashing down, toppling backward in defeat.
"Mi (>y<)" Seeing her game partner fall flat, the floating pink Pokémon now clearly revealed to be the mythical Pokémon, Mew giggled once more, covering her face in joy and mischief.
Nidoking is a Ground/Poison-type Pokémon, and although it was struck by Earth Power, a Ground-type move, the damage was manageable due to its resistance. While the blow knocked it off its feet, it wasn't seriously injured overall.
Seeing the mischievous pink kitten-like Pokémon floating in the air and giggling, Nidoking gritted its fangs and forced itself upright, visibly provoked by what it perceived as mockery.
"Bang bang bang bang... HOOOW!!"
Beating its chest wildly like a raging beast, Nidoking let out a thunderous roar. Its crimson eyes locked onto the floating pink figure, blazing with fury as the petite creature floated effortlessly from side to side, clearly toying with him.
Without hesitation, flames began gathering in Nidoking's jaws, crackling with unstable heat. With a sudden lunge forward, Nidoking exhaled a roaring burst of fire that surged through the air like a meteor.
As the inferno traveled, it expanded midair, forming a massive kanji-shaped fire sigil the hallmark of the powerful Fire-type technique: Flamethrower (Big Character Fire)!
"Mi" Seeing the fiery glyph race toward her, the pink Pokémon tilted its head playfully and vanished once more with a smooth Teleport, evading the attack as gracefully as before.
And just like a game of mirrored tag, the kitten didn't stop there.
After phasing out of the blast's path, she reappeared behind Nidoking, cheeks puffed slightly. Then without warning she opened her tiny mouth and released her own burst of flame, mimicking the same glyph-shaped fire attack.
The flames rapidly expanded and took shape identical to Nidoking's Big Character Fire.
Nidoking, completely caught off guard, hadn't expected a Pokémon to copy such an advanced Fire-type move so flawlessly. He was hit squarely in the back before he could react.
Although earlier attacks were clearly being restrained for playfulness, this time the power behind the pink creature's Big Character Fire wasn't scaled back.
When it had mimicked Earth Power, it had matched Nidoking's level intentionally.
But this time, the pink feline had unconsciously used its true power, unleashing what could only be described as a Legend-class Big Character Fire, far beyond Nidoking's level.
With no time to dodge and no way to endure such force, Nidoking was engulfed in a searing explosion, his body scorched black and blasted backward into the grass, toppling with a thud.
If any other summer camp students had witnessed this moment, they would have been utterly stunned not knowing the identity of this 'pink red kitten', they'd assume it was simply an incredibly overpowered wild Pokémon.
But Ash, as someone with knowledge from his past life, recognized the Pokémon immediately.
His pupils shrank slightly. "That's Mew… Why is Mew appearing here, at the Pokémon summer camp?"
The tiny feline floating in the air, joyfully spinning around in slow loops, was none other than Mew the ancestor of all Pokémon, said to carry the genetic code of every species. A mythical Pokémon so elusive that only a few records even confirmed its existence.
Ash's mind raced.
"In the original timeline, when Goh attended Professor Oak's summer camp, he encountered Mew in a similarly unexplained appearance… could this be the same one?"
Mew was known to have no permanent habitat, wandering the world at random. In theory, it could appear anywhere… though the probability of encountering it was so low that most considered it impossible.
Still, that exact same Mew had appeared in a summer camp once before. And now, Ash, standing in this very timeline, was seeing it too.
So while surprise initially flickered across his face, Ash didn't linger in awe for long.
Instead of overanalyzing why Mew appeared here, his mind shifted toward action he began to wonder whether he could establish contact, and more importantly.copy its skills using his Aura-linked ability.
His fingers clenched slightly.
"If I can resonate with Mew and replicate just one of its abilities…"
