Watt Bennet clearly knew there was no way she could fall asleep. After staring at Summer Sutton for quite a while, he suddenly spoke. "Tonight's dinner was something I deliberately arranged."
His words didn't actually surprise Summer Sutton.
The moment she had just arrived at the dinner and he showed up right after, she had already guessed as much.
But hearing him say it so bluntly still lightly tugged at Summer's heart.
"Ever since I knew you'd come back to the country, I've wanted to see you, but I was afraid you'd turn me down." Watt's voice sounded again.
Summer kept her eyes closed, pretending to sleep, and said nothing.
"All this time, the thing that made me happiest was finding out you were coming back." He didn't care whether she would respond to what he said; Watt's voice continued, "I don't know why you came back, but to me, the reason doesn't matter. What matters is—you're back."
As he spoke, his gaze suddenly brightened a little.
