Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: The Test of Survival

The cave was cold.

Damp air clung to the walls, and the faint echo of dripping water filled the silence. The ground beneath Kaelen was rough, uneven—but he barely noticed.

Pain had taken over everything.

Kaelen lay against the stone wall, clutching his wounded leg. Blood had soaked through the cloth he had tied earlier, darkening it completely. Each heartbeat sent a sharp pulse of pain through his body.

His breathing was shallow.

Uneven.

"…I can't stop here…"

His voice was barely more than a whisper.

But even that took effort.

Outside, the forest lived on.

The distant rustle of leaves.

The faint growl of unseen creatures.

The snap of a twig somewhere far away.

Every sound felt closer than it was.

Every shadow felt like a threat.

Kaelen forced himself to sit up.

His vision blurred for a moment—

Then steadied.

The map.

He pulled it out with trembling hands.

The markings were simple, but the path was long.

Twisted.

Dangerous.

And the sun…

He glanced toward the cave entrance.

The light had changed.

It was no longer bright.

"…I don't have much time…"

The realization hit him hard.

He clenched his jaw.

Pain surged through his leg.

But he ignored it.

Slowly—

Carefully—

He reached down and tightened the cloth around his wound.

Harder this time.

"—!"

A sharp gasp escaped him.

But the bleeding slowed.

"…Good enough…"

He looked around.

A broken branch lay nearby.

Kaelen grabbed it.

Tested his weight against it.

It would have to do.

Using it as support, he pushed himself up.

His body trembled.

But he stood.

"…I will finish this."

Not because he was strong.

But because he refused to fail.

The moment he stepped out of the cave, the forest greeted him with silence.

Not calm silence.

Watchful silence.

Kaelen took a deep breath.

Then moved.

Each step was slow.

Measured.

His injured leg dragged slightly, but he adjusted his balance, relying on the stick for support.

"…Focus…"

The traps were still there.

Waiting.

But something had changed.

Earlier, he had reacted.

Now—

He began to anticipate.

A faint shift in the ground.

A slight tension in the air.

A barely visible line between trees.

"…There."

He stepped over a hidden wire.

A moment later—

A log swung down behind him.

"…Too obvious."

His eyes narrowed.

The forest wasn't just testing his speed.

It was testing his mind.

As Kaelen moved forward, the traps grew more complex.

A patch of ground that looked stable—

Collapsed into a pit the moment he stepped near it.

A cluster of branches—

Released a volley of kunai when disturbed.

Even the wind seemed to carry hidden danger.

But Kaelen learned.

Each failure—

Each close call—

Made him sharper.

Faster.

Stronger.

His breathing steadied.

His movements became smoother.

And deep inside—

Something stirred.

At first, it was faint.

Barely noticeable.

A tingling sensation.

Then—

A pulse.

Kaelen paused.

"…What is this?"

The feeling spread through his body.

From his chest—

To his arms—

To his legs.

Energy.

Not just any energy.

Something wild.

Something alive.

His eyes flickered.

Just for a moment.

A faint glow.

"…This feeling…"

It was familiar.

The same sensation—

From the Power Globe.

From the ruins.

"…It's happening again…"

But this time—

It was stronger.

The forest suddenly opened.

Kaelen stepped forward—

And stopped.

Before him—

A wide gorge stretched across the land.

Deep.

Dark.

Endless.

The only way across—

A broken rope bridge.

It swayed violently in the wind.

Half the planks were missing.

The ropes looked fragile.

"…You've got to be kidding me…"

Kaelen looked at his injured leg.

Then at the bridge.

"There's no way…"

For a moment—

Doubt returned.

But then—

He closed his eyes.

Breathed in.

Slowly.

Breathed out.

"…Think."

The test wasn't about strength.

It was about will.

Strategy.

Heart.

"…I can do this."

He stepped onto the bridge.

The rope creaked beneath his weight.

The bridge swayed.

Kaelen tightened his grip on the ropes.

One step.

Then another.

Each movement sent pain through his leg.

But he didn't stop.

Halfway across—

The wind grew stronger.

The bridge shook violently.

"…Stay focused…"

Then—

SNAP.

A rope gave way.

The bridge tilted sharply.

Kaelen's footing slipped.

"…!"

For a split second—

He was falling.

And then—

Energy surged through him.

Not controlled.

Not trained.

But instinctive.

Lightning-like energy burst through his legs.

His body moved faster—

Stronger—

He pushed off the collapsing bridge—

And jumped.

Farther than he should have been able to.

Faster than he thought possible.

He landed hard on the other side—

Rolling across the ground.

Dust rose around him.

Silence followed.

Kaelen lay there.

Breathing heavily.

"…What… was that…?"

His heart raced.

The energy faded slowly.

But the feeling remained.

"…This power…"

It wasn't normal.

It wasn't just Thunder.

"…It's something else…"

🌅 The Final Stretch

Kaelen forced himself up.

The sun was low now.

Time was running out.

"…Just a little more…"

Step by step—

He moved forward.

Through trees.

Through shadows.

Through pain.

Until finally—

He saw it.

The hut.

"…I made it…"

His body gave in.

He collapsed near the door—

Just as the last rays of sunlight touched the forest.

The door creaked open.

The man stepped out.

Arms crossed.

Calm.

"You passed."

Kaelen looked up.

Barely conscious.

"…I… did?"

The man nodded.

"You didn't give up."

He stepped closer.

"That's what matters."

Kaelen let out a weak breath.

"I thought… I would fail…"

The man shook his head.

"You showed more than strength."

He knelt beside Kaelen.

"Instinct."

"Adaptability."

"And something else…"

He placed a hand on Kaelen's chest.

The moment he did—

His expression changed slightly.

"…Interesting."

Kaelen looked at him.

"What… is it?"

The man's voice lowered.

"…Something ancient."

"…Something hidden."

"…Something even time tried to erase."

Kaelen's eyes widened.

"…What do you mean?"

The man looked directly at him.

"You're not just a Thunder user."

A pause.

"There's something more inside you."

"…A legacy."

Kaelen's heart skipped a beat.

"…Legacy…?"

Memories.

Questions.

Confusion.

Everything rushed through him.

"…Please…"

He said weakly.

"Tell me your name…"

The man smiled.

Calm.

Confident.

"You may call me…"

"Razen."

"S-rank ninja of the Ancient Masters."

He stood up slowly.

"…And once…"

He looked back at Kaelen.

"…a comrade of your ancestors."

Kaelen froze.

"…You knew them?"

Razen nodded.

"And if you're ready…"

He extended his hand slightly.

"I'll help you unlock what they left behind."

Kaelen looked at him.

Then at the sky.

The sun had set.

Darkness began to rise.

But this time—

It didn't feel heavy.

It felt like the beginning.

Kaelen closed his eyes slowly.

A storm of thoughts inside him.

Pain.

Hope.

Mystery.

And power.

"This is just the beginning…"
