Chapter 48 - Chapter 48: The Inferfrost Convergence.

Kazan walked away.

To him, the battle was over. His Mushin no Ittō never missed. Behind him, Daidaiiro and Ao lay sprawled, clean slashes marring their chests as fresh crimson seeped out, staining the shattered ground.

Yet, instead of a death rattle, the silence was broken by a forced, heavy breath.

Kazan stopped. He did not look back, but his ears caught the sound. A breath. Not the wheeze of a dying man—but a breath fighting to endure.

"They're still alive?"

He turned.

Daidaiiro was clutching his torn chest, fingers slick with his own warm blood. Beside him, Ao did exactly the same. Their gazes locked—not with despair, but with a absolute resignation to shatter the boundaries of death.

Simultaneously, as if bound by a single thread of fate, both gathered the blood pooling from their wounds. With precise, rhythmic motions, they smeared the thick red fluid across their foreheads.

Their hands moved in a blur, weaving a sequence of ancient ritual signs through the air before locking their fists tightly together.

Two pairs of eyes snapped wide. Their voices resonated, merging into a single frequency that shook the very atmosphere.

"CONVERGENCE!"

BLAAAM!

Two pillars of light—one a searing crimson, the other an Arctic blue—exploded into the sky, engulfing their bodies.

Kazan flinched. Turning sharply, he leaped backward as he witnessed the two extreme forces. Instead of repelling each other, they spun violently, coiling into a massive, unstable sphere of raw energy.

Gales howled. The surrounding ground eroded under the strain—half scorched to cinder, half frozen to the point of fracturing.

As the glare began to fade and the particle storm subsided, a towering silhouette stood in the wake. His hair was streaked with stark red and blue, fluttering wildly as it radiated a spiritual pressure so immense it turned the air heavy and suffocating to breathe.

In his grip, a pair of giant scythes bound by chains of crackling ice and fire—the Inferfrost Chain-Scythes—pulsed ominously.

Aodai was born.

Kazan instantly dropped into a wary guard.

But Aodai granted him no time to think.

"Ember Crescent Slash!"

Aodai swung his right arm. The flame scythe went airborne, spinning through the night and igniting the air, forcing Kazan to raise his katana to parry.

ANG!

The impact was deafening. But before Kazan could recover his stance, the connecting energy chain snapped taut.

"Frosted Chain Yank!"

Aodai yanked the ice chain instantly. His body propelled forward like a bullet, erasing the distance in the blink of an eye. The ice scythe in his left hand lunged straight for Kazan's heart.

With flawless reflexes, Kazan executed Kiri Otoshi—slashing downward with extreme precision to deflect the icy blade away.

However, Kazan's warrior instincts betrayed him this time. This was no longer a battle against two separate entities.

"Dance of Blazing Ice!"

Aodai spun. The moment his thrust missed, he seamlessly transitioned into a brutal, erratic barrage of consecutive slashes. Flame strikes followed ice thrusts without a single frame of delay. A violent thermal shock rattled Kazan's katana; the metal began to emit faint, hairline cracks, unable to withstand the rapid, extreme fluctuations from searing heat to absolute zero.

Kazan's defense faltered.

He attempted to leap backward to re-establish distance, utilizing his wind-attribute mobility. But Aodai merely smirked.

"Flash Freeze Feint."

Aodai unleashed a deliberate, slow thrust with the ice scythe. Kazan easily read the trajectory and slipped to the right to evade. It was a trap. The chain coiled on the ground suddenly surged as if alive, binding Kazan's legs in a thick casing of frost. In that exact opening, the flame scythe swept in from his blind spot on the left.

"Damn it!" Kazan growled.

Cornered, he was forced to unleash Shunpū no Iaigiri. A single, invisible unsheathing of his blade shattered the ice binding his feet while deflecting the flame scythe, allowing him to retreat with ragged breaths. His armor was starting to fray.

Aodai refused to give him a reprieve.

"Trinity Cyclone!"

The fused weapon whirled above Aodai's head at a dizzying velocity. A tempest composed of rings of fire, pillars of ice, and colossal chains erupted, obliterating the entire zone Kazan stood upon.

Kazan was trapped in the epicenter of a dual-element hell.

Realizing he would perish if he remained on the defensive, Kazan wagered his entire life on one final strike. He closed his eyes amidst the raging storm, channeling every remnant of his energy into the tip of his katana.

Kazan's blade glowed a brilliant white, so radiant it overpowered the chaotic light of the tempest.

"Zettaizetsumei!!"

Kazan's roar clove through the thundering storm. A singular strike of absolute annihilation was unleashed, cleaving Aodai's vortex of ice and fire cleanly in two. The white beam surged straight toward Aodai's neck.

Yet, Aodai did not dodge. Instead, he intentionally left his guard wide open.

"Vengeful Cross Slash: Blazing Frost!"

BOOM!

Kazan's slash bit deep into Aodai's shoulder—thick blood sprayed. Yet, Aodai utilized that momentum to brace his body. The chain that had been covertly slithering beneath Kazan's feet since the storm faded was yanked with devastating force.

Kazan lost his footing—right at zero range. Directly in front of Aodai's face.

His eyes widened as the realization of his error set in.

"Guillotine Chain Trap."

The two colossal scythes were hurled in a cross formation, locking around Kazan's neck and waist. Aodai ripped the chains back with one brutal jerk. The links pulsed with heat and frost simultaneously, acting like a wire saw that burned and froze Kazan's cellular structure all at once.

Kazan collapsed, his body slamming heavily against the earth.

Aodai stood over him, breathing heavily, blood pouring from his mangled shoulder.

But he was still standing.

Kazan tried to force himself up—but his body refused to move.

The chains remained wrapped tightly around him.

---

In the distance, the sound of approaching footsteps began to echo.

Aodai turned his head.

Kin'iro still sat there. Still smiling.

"Finally..." he whispered.
