I stormed out of the backstage corridor without knowing where I was going.
All I knew was that I couldn't breathe.
The walls felt too close.
The noise from the runway sounded distant, muffled, like I was underwater.
My heart pounded violently against my ribs.
Zoe was missing.
And that thought threatened to undo me.
Footsteps pounded behind me.
"Brandon!"
I ignored them.
"Brandon, please wait! Let's talk."
I kept walking.
Faster now.
"Brandon!"
His hand almost touched my shoulder.
That did it.
I spun around so abruptly Garrett nearly crashed into me.
"Talk about what?" I snapped.
My voice echoed through the empty service hallway.
"What exactly do you want to talk about Garrett? Hmm?"
Garrett froze.
A bitter breath escaped me.
The sound came out broken.
Half laugh.
Half pain.
I dragged a trembling hand through my hair and let out a hollow chuckle that didn't sound anything like me.
"You want to explain how you've been lying to me?"
